Searches are continuing today (Sunday 10 December) for a woman who went missing in Norwich on Friday (8 December).

Gaynor Lord, 55, was last seen in the city centre on London Street at 2.35pm, heading towards Norwich Cathedral. She hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

It was established she’d gone missing after items belonging to her, including clothing and jewellery, were found in Wensum Park on Friday by a member of the public who reported the discovery to police.

Officers were able to identify Gaynor from these belongings and establish she had failed to return home from work that evening.

Other items, including Gaynor’s mobile phone, have since been discovered in the park and as a result, the park has been closed and a police cordon remains in place today while searches continue by specialist officers.

Taken from an updated appeal issued by Norfolk Constabulary

As someone from Norwich, I can’t understand how she’d end up in wensum park if she was on London street/heading to the cathedral.

Obviously the river runs right through, but the belongings in the park is a little bit bizarre.

Even if I were heading to wensum park from the city, there’s far quicker and easier walking routes than passing the cathedral.

Hopefully she’s home safe soon!

Water rescue teams have begun searching a river in a park where a missing woman's phone and jewellery were found.

Gaynor Lord was last seen on Friday afternoon and failed to return home from work that evening.

Police have spent the last three days searching Wensum Park in Norwich after a member of the public found clothing and jewellery. Ms Lord's mobile phone was later found nearby.

The park, on the outskirts of the city centre, remains closed with all entrances cordoned off.

On Monday morning, Norfolk Fire and Rescue's water team could be seen getting ready to search the River Wensum, which runs through the park.

Teams were also seen searching bins around the park, while police were scanning the area with drones.

Specialist firefighters have begun combing the river at a city park as the hunt for a missing 55-year-old Norwich woman enters its third day.

They entered the water at Wensum Park as part of the search for Gaynor Lord, who was last seen in the city centre on London Street at about 2.35pm on Friday heading towards Norwich Cathedral.

Items belonging to her - including clothing, jewellery and her mobile phone - were found at Wensum Park on Friday by a member of the public.

Police are probing a five-and-a-half hour gap between a missing mother leaving work and her clothing being found in a city park.

Gaynor Lord, 55, left her job at a department store in Norwich and was last seen walking along London Street, towards the cathedral, at 2.35pm on Friday.

After failing to return home, police confirmed a member of the public found her clothing in Wensum Park and contacted them around 8.10pm that evening.

As police prepare to bring in specialist search teams from outside of Norfolk, officers are trawling through CCTV and appealing for dashcam and doorbell footage to help them piece together what happened to Ms Lord during that five-hour period.

Supt Wes Hornigold, of Norfolk Police, said the force was focusing its efforts on Wensum Park, where the missing mother's phone and jewellery were also found.

"The evidence thus far would lead us to believe Wensum Park is the best chance of finding Gaynor," he said.

"We keep an open mind, but the nature and circumstances of how and where the clothing was found mean we continue to keep our efforts focused on the park - not just the water, but the park surrounding, we're speaking to who live in the area.

"We're absolutely not taking anything for granted."

A park in Norwich will remain closed today as the search for a missing 55-year-old woman continues.

Gaynor Lord was last seen in London Street at 2.35pm on Friday and was heading towards Norwich Cathedral.

Later that day Gaynor's belongings, including clothing and jewellery, were found in Wensum Park by a member of the public.

Officers were able to identify Gaynor from these belongings and established she had failed to return home from work that evening.

Over the weekend, specialist search teams carried out extensive searches of the area, including water-based searches carried out with assistance from the force's Marine Unit, Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service and the Coastguard.

Superintendent Wes Hornigold said: "Our focus will now start to move to underwater searches and we're seeking help from specialist teams to help with this complex task.

"Our priority is to find Gaynor and the park will remain closed while these searches continue."

This sounds like Gaynor had a medical or mental health emergency of some kind. If it was a robbery, the phone and jewellery would have been taken, not left to be found.

All speed and fortune to the searchers, and all the luck in the world to Gaynor. May she be found.

MOO

"This sounds like Gaynor had a medical or mental health emergency".

Can you explain?

This is in my City. There was a 5 hour gap between her being sighted on London Street and her belongings being found in Wensum Park. FYI, it's a half hour walk at most between the two, through a relatively active part of the city and crossing a main road.

The walking route from London Street and taking the detour through the cathedral might seem odd, but I often take detours through the city in that area because it's simply beautiful and peaceful there.

I wonder where "home" for her is though? Does she live in the north of the city or was she walking in a completely different direction?

This case must be distressing for you and your neighbors. What are locals saying? Is it likely the area has cctv?
If the answer is in the link you provided, I apologize. I'm in the US and the link doesn't open for me.

Officers are continuing to investigate the disappearance of 55-year-old Gaynor Lord who went missing in Norwich on Friday (8 December 2023).

The married mother-of-three was last seen on Friday afternoon; she’d been working at Jarrold department store in the city centre but left earlier than expected.

CCTV shows Gaynor, a retail assistant for Bullards Gin, leaving the store via Bedford Street at 2.45pm when she was due to finish at 4pm. She was seen to walk on London Street heading towards Norwich Cathedral.

It was established she’d gone missing on Friday night after her possessions were found in Wensum Park by a member of the public who reported the discovery to police shortly after 8pm. Officers were able to identify Gaynor from ID in her handbag. They visited her home address and found she failed to return home from work.

Wensum Park has been closed off to the public since Saturday and specialist teams have been carrying out extensive searches of the land and water. Searches have been carried out in the River Wensum with assistance from the constabulary’s Marine Unit, Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service and the Coastguard.

Gaynor’s clothing, two rings, her mobile phone and glasses were found in the park in various locations. Her coat was found in the water.

The force has requested mutual aid for specialist underwater search teams, who should arrive today or tomorrow.

Police believe the most likely scenario is that Gaynor has entered the water, and due to the location of where Gaynor’s clothing and possessions were found, this has been an area of focus.

Norwich Policing Commander, Superintendent Wes Hornigold, said: “Gaynor left work early and didn’t take her normal route home. We haven’t been able to establish why she left early and her disappearance is out of character so we are naturally concerned for her welfare.

“There’s no evidence that Gaynor has come to harm and while we have a number of enquiries ongoing, given where her clothing was found and other items, there is a real possibility she has entered the water.

“We’ve been liaising with the National Crime Agency (NCA) who have given advice around specialist underwater dive teams and we’re seeking assistance from forces with this capability. We hope resources will be on the ground later today or tomorrow.

“This is clearly a distressing time for her family. We have specialist officers supporting them and continue to keep them updated of our ongoing work.”

Gaynor is described as white, 5 ft 6 tall, and was wearing a white shirt and yellow tank top with a large olive-coloured coat over the top and a scarf. She has blonde shoulder length hair in a bob.

Anyone with information or who knows of her whereabouts should contact Norfolk Police on 101 quoting incident number 427 of 8 December 2023.

The shedding of items across the area seems like a disorganised action, suggesting to me distress or confusion. She was also not in the area people seem to think she should have been. But this is just my opinion based on the little we know.

A missing woman whose belongings were found in a riverside park is most likely to have "entered the water", police searching for her have said.

Married mother-of-three Gaynor Lord was last seen on Friday afternoon as she left work in Norwich city centre, prompting four days of intense searching by police and rescue teams.

On Tuesday, underwater search specialists were due to be brought in to help with the operation centred on the city's Wensum Park, where the 55-year-old's clothes and jewellery, including two rings, were discovered on Friday night.

Her coat was found in the water, said police, and her belongings were identified by ID in her handbag. When they visited her home, they found she had failed to return home from work.

Police said on Tuesday lunchtime that the "most likely scenario is that Gaynor entered the water".

Supt Wes Hornigold said: "Gaynor left work early and didn’t take her normal route home. We haven’t been able to establish why she left early and her disappearance is out of character so we are naturally concerned for her welfare.

The daughters of a missing mother-of-three who disappeared last week after leaving work early has pleaded for the public to help find her.

Gaynor Lord, 55, left her shift in a city centre department store on Friday but never made it home.

A huge search has been underway for four days and police divers have been called in after her coat was found in a river in a nearby park. Her clothes, two rings, mobile phone and glasses were also discovered nearby.

Today her daughters both reposted several versions of Norfolk Police appeals for information about their mother’s disappearance on Facebook.

Alexandra Lord, 22, added above one of them: 'Please share, if anyone knows anything please do contact the police! We want her home!'

Above another message she wrote: 'Anything you may know small or large please contact the police!' Elder sister Charlotte, 24, a fashion entrepreneur, also reposted the police appeals on Facebook.

Wensum Park in Norwich has been closed to the public since Saturday while specialist teams search on land and in the water. Norfolk Police say the 'most likely scenario' is that Ms Lord had entered the water.

A police spokeswoman added: 'We won't be drawn on her state of mind. We are still trying to establish the facts. But it was completely out of character.'

Norwich policing commander Superintendent Wes Hornigold said: 'Gaynor left work early and didn't take her normal route home. We haven't been able to establish why she left early and her disappearance is out of character, so we are naturally concerned for her welfare.

'There's no evidence that Gaynor has come to harm and, while we have a number of enquiries ongoing, given where her clothing was found and other items, there is a real possibility she has entered the water.'

Gaynor married financial advisor Clive Lord, 63, in 2014, and the pair were formerly co-directors of a company called Lord’s Wealth Management Ltd which was closed down in 2021. Mr Lord declined to comment when approached today.

Police revealed that she'd left her work as a retail assistant for spirits distiller Bullard Gin, based at the city's Jarrold Department Store, at 2.45pm, before her shift was due to end at 4pm.

She was last seen heading toward the cathedral in the centre of Norwich on Friday before she vanished.
