Found Deceased UK - Jesus Moreno, 41, Spanish co-founder of Piglove Brewing Co in Leeds, W Yorks, last seen getting bus to Harrogate at 6.17am, 1 Aug 2022

Searches continue for two men who have been missing in the Harrogate district since last year.

Gavin Dhont, Ripon, and Jesus Moreno, Leeds, have both not been seen since late 2022.

Officers at both North Yorkshire Police and West Yorkshire Police have reissued appeals for any sightings of both men.

Mr Moreno, who worked at a Leeds brewery, has been missing for five months after last being seen in August 2022.

The brewer was spotted on CCTV catching a 36 bus from Leeds bus station at 6.10am on Monday, August 1.

He got off the bus at Swindon Lane near Dunkeswick, just north of Harewood bridge on the A61, at 6.39am. He was then seen on CCTV near the bridge at 8.14am.

Posters have been put up looking for missing man Jesus Moreno

Posters were put up in Harrogate looking for missing man Jesus Moreno.

However, searches of the area carried out by West Yorkshire Police have not resulted in any findings.

A force spokesperson told the Stray Ferret that Mr Moreno’s case remains “the subject of a high risk missing person investigation”.

They added:

“Officers from Leeds CID are continuing to support the family and give them a detailed overview of their enquiries so far.”

Nicola Bulley's disappearance has thrust the search for missing people firmly back into the spotlight and reminded people of how traumatic disappearances can be on loved ones.

On January 27, Nicola Bulley, 45, dropped her two young girls off at school before taking her brown spaniel Willow for a walk along the River Wyre in the village of St Michael's, Lancashire. Nicola, affectionately known as Nikki to friends and family, was on her mobile phone and dialled into a work call when she disappeared.

Partner Paul Ansell's anxious wait for answers is sadly shared by many Yorkshire families, whose relatives went missing without a trace and have not been found.

Below are some of the people who are missing in Yorkshire and whose families understand exactly what Nicola's family are going through. If you have any information on any of these cases, please contact the police immediately.

Continued Appeal Over Missing Leeds Man Jesus Moreno

Friday, March 31, 2023
Police in Leeds are continuing to appeal for information to help trace a man who went missing eight months ago.
Despite extensive enquiries, Jesus Moreno remains a missing person, and officers are still committed to resolving his unexplained disappearance and getting his family the answers they need.

Jesus was reported missing on August 2 last year with concerns raised for his welfare.
Enquiries established that he had caught a Harrogate-bound number 36 bus from Leeds bus station at 6.10am on Monday, August 1, and got off on the A61 Harrogate Road in the vicinity of Swindon Lane near Dunkeswick at 6.39am.
He was then seen on CCTV near to Harewood Bridge at 8.14am that morning, and further CCTV showed him entering a field on the Leeds side of the bridge, opposite Harewood Bridge Sawmills.
The images showed him wearing a black t-shirt, with the logo of his Piglove Brewing Co business on it, black jeans and carrying a black Vans rucksack with a chequered pattern on it.

This was the last confirmed sighting of him.
He was known to have previously visited nearby beauty spots on the River Wharfe at Netherby.
Police search advisers have overseen a number of searches of the countryside surrounding where he was last seen.
Specialist marine and underwater search officers have checked the surface of the River Wharfe down to Ulleskelf, North Yorkshire, and carried out underwater searches of specific locations along the waterway.
Detectives from Leeds District CID have conducted extensive enquiries over the time since he was reported missing, but this work has not yielded any new information on his whereabouts.
This has included following up on various reports of sightings of him across the country that resulted from media appeals. None of those reports were confirmed as being him and they are believed to be well-intentioned sightings of males of similar appearance.
Detective Inspector Ryan Malyk, who has overseen the missing person investigation, said: “We recently met with Jesus’s family to give them a detailed overview of the work that we have been carrying out to find him since he was reported missing.
“We are acutely aware that they are continuing to go through a really difficult time while his disappearance remains unresolved.
“It is completely out of character for him to go missing like this and to remain out of contact with his family and friends for such a long period of time.
“As it stands, we have explored and exhausted every possible line of enquiry to find him, and unfortunately that has not brought us any progress beyond the last confirmed sighting of him at Harewood Bridge.
“We remain committed to finding him and would welcome any new information that could assist us.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Leeds District CID via 101 quoting reference 13220422334 or online via www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat

Like others, I am confused by the suggestion that JM was unable to access the works van on the morning of his disappearance. Did he have his own set of keys or were they kept in the office at the brewery? Was access to the building via a key or combination lock?

Every possible line of inquiry has been "exhausted" in the search for the founder of a Leeds brewery who went missing eight months ago, police say.

Jesus Moreno, 41, owner of the Piglove Brewing Co, was last seen at Harewood Bridge on the North Yorkshire border on Monday, 1 August 2022.

Det Insp Ryan Malyk, of West Yorkshire Police, said despite "extensive inquiries", no new leads had emerged.

However, he added that officers "remain committed to finding him".

Mr Moreno was reported missing on 2 August last year, with concerns raised for his welfare.

He caught a number 36 bus on 1 August, getting off on the A61 Harrogate Road on Swindon Lane near Dunkeswick, just before 06:40 BST, police said.

Mr Moreno was seen on CCTV at 08:14 that morning near Harewood Bridge, two miles from beauty spots on the River Wharfe at Netherby, which he had previously visited.

CCTV showed him wearing a black T-shirt, with the logo of his business on it, black jeans and carrying a black Vans rucksack with a chequered pattern.

Mr Moreno was described as 5ft 7in (1.7m), with long curly brown hair, a brown beard and an orange octopus tattoo on his upper left arm.

Police have re-appealed for anyone with information about Mr Moreno's whereabouts to get in touch.

Since his disappearance, specialist officers had checked the River Wharfe down to Ulleskelf, North Yorkshire, and carried out underwater searches of specific locations along the river, according to the West Yorkshire force.

Detectives had also followed up various reports of sightings of him across the country, but they were all believed to be "well-intentioned sightings of males of similar appearance", police said.

Det Insp Malyk said he had recently met members of Mr Moreno's family to update them on the investigation.

"We are acutely aware they are continuing to go through a really difficult time while his disappearance remains unresolved," he said.

Det Insp Malyk said it was "completely out of character" for Mr Moreno to go missing like this.

"As it stands, we have explored and exhausted every possible line of inquiry to find him, and unfortunately that has not brought us any progress beyond the last confirmed sighting of him at Harewood Bridge," he added.

Anyone with information about Mr Moreno's whereabouts, or with information which could be useful to the investigation, was asked to contact West Yorkshire Police.

So...

Anyone have any connections with the C5 Vanished series? Only 3 episodes, and last next week.

Can we apply some tweets, emails, pressure to Dan Walker and the producers to cover this case?

I think JM went to Netherby, pretty sure this CCTV pic is him walking away from the footpath that leads there.

I've circled the camera but it's not that clear on streetview.

The bus stop to the CCTV is 0.7 miles and there's 1 hour 35 minutes between the sightings. Using footpaths JM could have gone to Netherby at a distance of 3.38 miles which is 1 hour and 7 minutes at 3 miles per hour.

Possible route:

Source for footpaths and bridleways:

I just don't understand what he's done afterwards, There's a bus stop right next to the CCTV and he could have been back in Leeds for 9AM.

Tracking back to this post to note JM's hair in the cctv image - to me it looks wet. So my impression is that he'd been down towards Netherby, had his swim in the river and then come back to the main road. After that, per the WYP website he turns south over the bridge and "further CCTV showed him entering a field on the Leeds side of the bridge, opposite Harewood Bridge Sawmills."

But we don't get to see this cctv - so where did he go? Along the footpath on the south bank of the river? Where is the camera that covers that entrance? I can't see one. Or did he go over the field gate opposite the sawmill entrance a bit further down? Why? For a pee? If he went over the gate he wasn't seen coming back by the same camera.

I think he's entered the field where the gate is, opposite the sawmill, which I believe has a cctv camera on the office selling garden buildings/sheds. It's not technically part of the footpath but there's nothing to stop him joining the footpath from there. There's also easy access to the river by the side of the bridge there.

My hunch is he followed the footpath along the river (southbank, eastwards), but who knows?

All IMO.

Could be - that’s the only entrance I could see potentially covered by cctv. Unfortunately we don’t have the last cctv of him going into the field, which could indicate where he went once over the gate. Also, heading south at that point, he has already past the signed river footpath entrance.

Likewise, we don’t know the circumstances under which he lost his phone the day before - as has been mentioned upthread there’s some possibility he may have been trying to retrace his steps from a visit up there on the Sunday - which might also explain why he rode two stops past the quickest footpath route to Netherby on the way up. In this context, cctv from the same camera(s) on the Sunday might prove informative.

On the one hand, he appears to be dressed for work and heading back towards Leeds, but on the other there was talk the day after his disappearance of welfare concerns…

Can you link to this about the phone. Have looked back but can't see anything...?

Here you go:

Marcos, who co-owns Piglove Brewing Co. with Jesus, is now urging his business partner to reach out in any way possible. He told Leeds Live : "The only thing we care about is for him to come back, or to reach out if he needs any help. He lost his phone the day before so we just want him to reach out in any way he can.

RSBM. I think that's possible. If they drove the previous day then they'd have probably gone down Swindon Lane where he got off the bus. I do wonder if he somehow missed Netherby and ended up back on Harrogate Road and tried to find it from the southbank and swim across, it's pretty overgrown on the opposite bank but there was at least one house visible in Netherby. I did a few walks around there last August, this is the house from the opposite bank:

That doesn't explain why he walked past the footpath though, unless he just missed the sign.

Hi all, first post for me here but I have followed Jesus's story extensively and I know the area very well. I wild-swim in the Wharfe at Netherby regularly and had seen Jesus swimming there with his friends a few weeks before he went missing.

I might be able to clarify a few things about the local area and also I swam in the river the exact day Jesus went missing, August 1st.

The Wharfe is very unpredictable and it's generally only accessible around this point from the north bank - on the footpath along to Netherby there are lots of good access points as the ground slopes down to the river gently and there are sandy deposits creating little beaches - Netherby deep has sand brought from Bridlington in the 1930s. On the south bank of the river from Harewood Bridge to around Carthick Wood the bank is very steep and crumbling, you cannot access or exit the river safely or easily until a pebbly beach opposite Bank Hill where there used to be a ford across the river.

The swimming at Netherby deep is generally safe although the water there is very deep, 9 metres in places and two children drowned there in the 60s. There is a large noticeboard put up by the children's grandparents warning of the danger which killed the popularity of it as tourist spot, although during lockdown it became pretty popular with locals again after being generally somewhere you only saw other dedicated wild swimmers. When I saw Jesus and his friends there none of them looked like very strong swimmers, they were mostly hanging out on the little beach and having short swims although obviously this is conjecture!

From what I can tell they drove to the spot. You can park up near the Maustin holiday park and it's a five minute walk to the swim spot. I don't think many people are aware you can walk there from Harewood bridge, I don't have a car and bus/walk most places and I rarely see any other people walking to the swim spot, only anglers and dogwalkers who don't go on the path to Netherby.

Where Jesus first got off the 36 bus bus is near the turning off Harrogate road onto Swindon Lane, which is where you drive to Netherby deep if you go by car. However there are a few turnings to reach it and I suspect he might have got lost without a phone and not knowing the area well. There are usually other swimmers there on nice days and his info has been shared on the group so I'm not sure he made it to the spot. He seems to have backtracked to the bridge after wandering around for a while too.

From what I can tell about the police info about CCTV Jesus was last picked up on the camera from the harewood bridge sawmill/shed place going onto a footpath on the south side of the river, the wrong side to access it safely. I'm not sure he made it onto the footpath along the north side at all as it's not well signposted - can anyone confirm he was definitely picked up on the Bridge Court CCTV? That place is a very posh flat complex and there are several cameras around the little car park outside, I'm sure they would have more images of him walking past if so.

My thinking is that he tried to go to the usual swim spot, got lost, went back to the bridge where you can see the river and saw the well signposted footpath on the wrong side of the bridge. He walked down a way and tried to access the river from a steep bank, slipped and fell in the deep side of the river and was unable to exit.

As I mentioned earlier, I went swimming in the wharfe in between Harewood Bridge and Netherby deep the same day Jesus went missing at around 4pm with several friends. The river was much, much stronger that day than we expected, I got in at a shallow point and am a strong swimmer who regularly swims in the Wharfe but we all got out after 15 minutes of trying to find place we could safely swim without being dragged off by the currents if we took out feet off the bottom. I got swept along some 20 ft at one point which shook me up a bit! We had no idea that anyone had gone missing there that day and didn't see anyone else at that particular swim spot.

I have spent quite a lot of time walking up and down the river since he went missing. We saw divers at Harewood Bridge and Netherby deep and I've heard the police have done a surface search between Wetherby and Harewood bridge. There is a section of the river just north of East Keswick that is difficult to access, there are no public footpaths along there and the bank on the south side is more like a cliff. There are a few marshy areas with little islands and trees growing and it would be difficult to search there, I suspect his body might be caught up in the marshy bits and without any really heavy rain over the last few months I don't know if it could be washed down further.

I have been thinking about how the area could be more thoroughly searched - I would hope the police would do it but I think they have pretty much given up, there's been no activity from them for months now. You would need a boat to search that particular area of the river - if we have some heavy rain he would possibly get washed down to wetherby weir but until that happens I think he's likely to be around this area -

Reflagging this from @SeaPriestess upthread, which outlines a similar idea - though I’m not sure I’m entirely convinced by the idea that he got lost on the way towards Netherby - the Spring Lane turn off Swindon Lane looks to be signposted for Netherby and once you’re on Spring it’s pretty much a direct route with no turns off (unless, I suppose, he took the first right onto West Gate and came Down to the Wharfe Lane byway, then turned right again along there thinking it would take him to the Deep).

I guess (as with the Nicola Bulley case) it comes down to the question ‘is he in the river?’ If yes, then no amount of sleuthing will add anything at this point. IMO the saw mill cctv would be hugely instructive in establishing the likelihood of this, but (as ever) the information made public is limited and vague.
