This lady is still missing
Daughter's heartbreaking plea to mum as police search the river
Oh my. This is local for me. I have only just heard. I returned from shopping in Kidlington about two hours ago.
I lived in Summertown for some years. I worked at a nursing home in Harpes Road for several years and lived fairly near to the river. Harpes Road leads to Hermes Road and from Hermes Road there is river you can walk to on the way to the Cutteslowe park. Those roads can be isolated and although the area I am thinking of is overlooked by houses, it can get pretty deserted. However, if this lady cannot walk far and left her bicycle at home, it would be difficult for her to get that far.
From Harpes Road you can turn left and walk towards the Cutteslowe Community Centre where you would be able to walk over the river into the park using a bridge. A person with difficulty walking would not manage the steps on that bridge or the ramp. Nor would a person who has difficulty walking easily make it that far. I would assume they are searching there and Cutteslowe park. Given the amount of water, it is probably routine to search the Cherwell. However, the article indicates Lorraine/Claudia likes to be by the river.
What the article does not say is the direction the lady was walking. If she walked towards Harpes Road she would be on the Banbury Road with buses to Oxford. I cannot think she would be able to walk anywhere towards water other than the area I am thinking of if she cannot walk. Lorraine/Claudia took a bag and no bicycle so I hope besides searching open land they are also talking to the bus drivers in case she went that way.
You can punt in Oxford, but there are specific places to punt from. Magdalen Bridge is one and the Cherwell boathouse is another. The river Cam is not in Oxford, it is in Cambridge.
I wonder if this explains why I am hearing helicopters again as I live near the airport.
