I do hope they can determine (through time of death and other indicators - Fitbit data maybe) if it was accidental or suicide. If the latter I think the family will always blame themselves. I hope it was an accident. I hope they can find peace eventually. :(

I'm no techie and I have no idea whether a fitbit could help with any of that, but I do know that coroners are reluctant to return a verdict of suicide unless there is pretty irrefutable proof that's that what it was.
Suicide has implications for some life insurance etc as well as leaving an already grieving family with a whole new level of turmoil.
I anticipate a verdict of accidental death, unless there is evidence that we're currently not aware of.
The family may have their own thoughts on how accurate that is.

I sure hope the sleuth arrested was the YT party hiding behind NB's name and picture of PA as his profile. Same posted video of recovery and readying the body bag.

I'm recalling privacy shields erected on the shoreline when Kiely Rodni's vehicle was pulled from the water-- specifically for this purpose. IMO, a necessary and worthy investment.

From the quoted link:

One internet sleuth was arrested and fined for posting videos from the search area.

Eastwood said: "I think it's a watershed moment in how policing going forward deals not only with the onslaught of communications and the interest of media organisations, but it’s the ones that do not represent media organisations, that purport to be, and the other of course is the use of so-called specialists who I think in this case imposed themselves on the investigation and Nicola’s family, and I’m hoping their consciences are currently in overdrive."

Unfortunately, it seems with missing persons cases it's an awful coin-toss for the family: Heads you're totally forgotten about and one of the thousands of missing persons cases the world largely ignores, tails you get the media circus whether you like it or not. There's no such thing as a family-friendly media circus, unfortunately.
As awful as it must be I think I'd prefer the latter as more awareness may find the person.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but I saw it mentioned ~30 pages ago and wanted to offer some references about how a body could be in (cold) water for nearly a month and still be identifiable as a woman at the scene, and visually identifiable as Nicola by LE.
The following are all UIDs from NamUs who were discovered in water, and had an estimated PMI between 1 week to "weeks", and have postmortem photos visible GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING. (x, x, x, x, x). This is a water death where the PMI is months, but limbs, hands, and tattooing (face not shown) is still intact.
Obviously, they look different and have skin slippage, hair slippage, bloating, etc but are still vaguely identifiable. Also take into account height and clothing to bolster identification. It is very possible that Nicola could be in the water for 24 days and still be identifiable.

May you now Rest In Peace Nicola. Thinking of all the family at this heartbreaking time, especially those little girls.

Whilst it’s a heartbreaking and devastating end, the family can now begin to properly grieve their beautiful mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend.

I hope that some sort of change can come to the way the UK media report on these crimes. It’s shocking that they give no thought and respect to human lives and emotions… it’s all about selling papers and digital subscriptions.

RIP beautiful lady

Ehh. This happens a lot. Missing people are found close to where they were last seen. JJ Day was found less than a mile away from where he parked his car (though nobody considered the possibility that he was in the river).
And…the searchers and investigators missed Chandra Levy’s body too. Casey Anthony is another nightmarish example of such oversight.

Not conceding it’s right in any manner, but to err is human. It happens.

I really hope now that the family and friends of Nicola are allowed to grieve in peace. They have a painful road ahead of them all and it's only been make harder by some of the really awful things on social media, it will take a long time for them to recover from the treatment they have received. I wish them all the best in their healing and really hope they have some good support around them.

A PM happens here in the UK usually if it's an accident, suspected foul play, sudden or unexplained death and/or the deceased wasn't being seen by a Dr. for an illness recently. Family has no say. It's a legal requirement and something which the Coroner orders.
And a good one…something definitely critical and necessary in such cases.

RIP Nicola

Could not feel more sadness for her daughters, it will be a long time they’ll live without their Mum & so many stages she’ll be so acutely missed. No one will be able to replace her. Just devastating.
Speaking as someone who’s lived a long time without their Mum. And for her parents, dealing with out-living their own child is horrendous as I saw with my grandparents. My heart breaks for them.

Does anyone know, does a full post mortem happen automatically to determine cause of
death even if police do not feel it’s suspicious.

Feels important to find out for her girls safety & that of other female (or male I guess) walkers in the area.

I didn’t think she had left of her own accord or that it was an insurance scam but kind of hoped it as much better outcome than this.
Sorry I haven`t watched the news yet. Did they say the cause of death?
In the U.K. an unexplained death always becomes a coroner’s case and the body will undergo a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death. This can often take a while because of the lab and associated results that may be required.

Still deciphering statements and quips by police. The fact that her phone “moved” to the bench (with presumably no confirmation of Nicola placing or carrying it there). There on the bench, the said phone remained until found by passersby (and still logged into the team call). The three key CCTV black-out areas sans any coverage in three precise areas.

Also keenly interested in the black hole in time where she cannot be accounted for. If foul play was involved - It takes very little time to commit such a murder and secrete the body. It seems equally possible in this situation and scenario. I simply hope they keep ALL OPTIONS open, until they can be firmly eliminated as being even remotely possible. She deserves nothing less.

IMHO This is unfortunately the worst outcome for the family. This has been an unusual case from the beginning. A lot of unanswered questions. I am glad she has been found. Hopefully, they will be able to determine what happened. Very sad.

Even though the police said they do not believe a third party involvement, I still hope they would fingerprint the phone, as I too am perplexed on the part about the phone approaching the bench

@Cuko I hope they do a better job this time. That village needs to know exactly what happened to poor Nicola so they can go back to live in peace knowing there is no risk out there.

I don't disagree with the family's statement, but I think it was inappropriate for a public official on duty to read it out. Public agencies shouldn't be adversarial toward the free press, unless members of the media were actually breaking laws.

It should have been issued via a family spokesperson, lawyer, etc.

So sorry for her family and loved ones.
JMO, obviously, but I don’t think it was inappropriate at all. The Family Liaison Officers will have been with the family from day 1. The family, understandably, now have a quite small, tight unit of people they trust. It seems the FLOs have become part of that supportive and trusted group, as they should, that’s what we hope our taxes are going towards, victim support within the Police Force.
It is entirely appropriate that the family lean on the FLOs. This is what they have done. Regular families thrown into unimaginable situations being expected to have a family spokesperson or lawyer….am not going to say anymore, though being sent to the naughty step isn’t the deterrent. It’s trying to maintain a dignified response, because the dignity we have seen from Nicola’s family should be a lesson we all learn from.

R.I.P. Nicola

Sky have been playing the family statement in full now.

Tney’ve conveniently left it out of the video of the press conference saved on their Youtube channel though, which will be the one viewed in future, long after the live broadcasts are forgotten, and the one being viewed right now, by millions worldwide who can’t watch Sky News live.

I think it does the family a massive disservice, and deals one final insult (well, I hope final.. unless Sky choose not to make a public apology,) after the direct texts yesterday, not to have included their statement in the version saved for posterity.
