Found Deceased UK - Sally Allan, 59, Ponteland, Northumberland, 26 December 2015

Countdown's Rachel Riley launches fresh appeal for missing mother Sally Allan

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/63...her-Sally-Allan-Ponteland-boxing-day-vanished

Sally Allan, 59, a friend of the TV star’s mother, disappeared in the early hours after spending a “lovely” Christmas with her family.
She left her home in Ponteland, Northumberland, at about 3am still in her pyjamas after going downstairs for a drink.
Mrs Allan was next spotted by CCTV cameras at 6am, 11 miles away in the Quayside area of Newcastle close to the Swing Bridge.
It is believed she walked to the spot and was filmed at the rear of the Copthorne Hotel.
Police do not know where she went afterwards or why she left her home.
Officers are focusing the search on the Quayside area and have searched the River Tyne.

Bringing this post forward.

I don't have facebook and this looks to be a Group.

Is this the second facebook for Sally?

The other facebook link I could look at even without a facebook, this one I cannot.

Yes Treelights, I'm the same as you, cannot see this one as I don't have FB.
Thanks Alyce, can see your post regarding the other FB for Sally.
Problem sorted and apologies for the distraction.

With it being Sunday the Quayside Market will be on again so there will be quite a bit of activity along there although it is due to rain heavily all day. I was hoping to pop down myself but I don't think the plans I have with friends will allow it.

I saw someone on the facebook page suggesting this yesterday but from what I've seen this morning that doesn't seem to be the case.

To be quite honest though I'm not sure what good searches of the area would do after over a week, even if Sally had somehow been injured and was unable to move she would have been found by now.

She's either managed to get far away and change her clothes, get food, money etc or sadly she's in the water in which case it's just a matter of waiting. I think Blef said above that it can take up to 2 weeks for bodies in the river to be found depending in tides.

Does anyone know what effect heavy rain has?

She could have found her way into an empty building too. Sadly she would have succumbed to the cold all the same though so again, just waiting to be found.

I think we've pretty much all thought from the start that river searches are the most likely way she'll be found. It doesn't seem they have a definite point of entry as I'm sure that would have been released. There have been recent cases where this has happened: Craig Millward, who was caught on CCTV walking down a path towards the river but not reappearing at the other end, and Robbie Oversby who was videoed crossing the Redheugh Bridge but not exiting the other end (along with witnesses who saw someone falling). It's terribly sad but hopefully Sally will be found soon.

Sadly you are right, a family statement has been posted in the FB group

and for those not on FB (hope it's OK to copy and paste)

STATEMENT FROM THE ALLAN FAMILY

Earlier today the family were updated on the police investigation.

CCTV footage has confirmed that Sally was last seen walking along the River Tyne underneath the Swing Bridge on the Newcastle Quayside at around 6:15am on Boxing Day.

After 4 days, the detailed investigation of CCTV footage of the Quayside area where Sally was last seen has not produced any further sightings of her. Furthermore, there is no CCTV evidence or witnesses seeing her leaving the area where she was last seen next to the river.

The extensive media coverage of Sally's disappearance over the past few days (for which we are very grateful) has not produced any confirmed sightings from the public, either on the Quayside or in the greater Tyneside area.

As a result of these findings the police have now concentrated their search efforts on the River Tyne, with specialist officers from the marine unit supporting the investigation.

Unfortunately it looks like it is the ending that we feared as the current evidence strongly supports the view that she entered the river at this point. It could be a long and difficult wait for us before there is final closure on Sally's disappearance. This will depend on the river searches now being undertaken.

We would like to thank everyone for the wonderful support received during the last week. Whether it is the huge number of people who have spent their holiday time looking for her or the many kind thoughts and messages of support which have been overwhelming and provided great comfort. It is a very difficult time and your support has given us the strength to carry on. We thank each and every one of you.

We would like time to take in this news, it has been a very busy and emotionally draining week. We now need to help and support each other during this dreadful time.

Sally we still love you and we always will.

It has no sense for me, sorry. If she wanted to commit the suicide, she could have enter the river much closer to the home. She didn't have to walk freakin' eleven miles. So unless she had some mental problem at the moment it does not make much sense for me.

Maybe it took eleven miles of mulling over things in her head, and then, if she decided to commit suicide, she did.
Whatever was happening, it took her all these miles from her home.
Maybe there were issues that aren't discussed, and maybe she was upset, mad and couldn't come to a conclusion to fix things... Or maybe it was an accident?
I know it's hard to fathom when perhaps we don't know all that the family might know.
And even the family might not know everything?
IMOO.

I'm really struggling to get my head round this one. I've been following this closely and my thoughts have been with the family since this story broke.

I'm struggling with her walking so many miles into town, I know she was a keen walker, but to me it doesn't make much sense.

I guess the answers will come out down the road, I'm still hoping she'll return to her family alive and well, although seem evidence is against that.

stumped. :(

Maybe it was just at tragic accident, maybe she went to look at the water and slipped or was tired and stumbled. Is it possible to fall into the river in that area without having to climb over any walls or barriers, is an accident at all feasible?

I agree, it all just seems so odd, I too am at a loss to explain the walking

I was looking on street view on google maps, looking over the swing bridge, it would seem you can walk underneath the bridge, which sounds like she did. The river is much wider than I thought it from descriptions I'd read and I guess depending on the water height, what I saw looked like quite a drop into the river. So I guess, if you were near the edge and slipped, getting out would have been a real struggle.

It seems that someone who hikes, might well die hiking, a runner running, a swimmer, swimming and so on.
Stands to reason, that since Sally liked to walk, that she would keep walking ...

imo, speculation.

And a loose thought: with Sally's looks and her peculiar gait it would be very easy to look like her on the cctv recordings. Put on similar clothes and a wig, and walk like her in front of the cameras...

Very interesting thought, one to keep in mind with some other missing person cases, especially if they seem to pointedly walk past cctv cameras, imo.
