Officers have issued an urgent appeal to help find a woman missing from Harrogate.

51 year-old Susan Howells (pictured) was last seen at her home address in Harrogate in February 2019.



Officers are growing increasingly concerned for Susan’s welfare and are appealing the public for information as to her whereabouts.

Susan is described as 5ft 7ins tall of slim build with long dark hair and green eyes.

She has links to West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire and may have travelled there.

If you think you might have seen Susan, or have any information as to her current whereabouts, please contact North Yorkshire Police.

Police investigating the disappearance of a woman from North Yorkshire have charged a man with her murder.

Dale Tarbox, 39, of Station Road, Doncaster, appeared before Leeds Magistrates Court today (Tuesday) accused of the murder of Susan Howells, of Harrogate, who was last seen in February of this year.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Leeds Crown Court on Thursday.

The inquiry is being led by West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, who following further enquiries, are now treating it as a murder investigation.

A 63-year-old woman also arrested in connection with Miss Howells’ disappearance has been released on bail and enquiries are continuing at locations across Bradford and Doncaster.

A second man has been charged by police investigating the disappearance of a woman from North Yorkshire.

Keith Wadsworth, aged 60, of Dunscroft in Doncaster has been charged with preventing a lawful and decent burial and appeared at court in Leeds today, where he was remanded into custody to appear before Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday, 30 October.

Also appearing today was Dale Tarbox, aged 39, of Station Road, Doncaster, who has been charged with the murder of missing woman Susan Howells.

He was also remanded back into custody and will next appear before Leeds Crown Court on the above date.

A 63-year-old woman who was also arrested in connection with the disappearance of Miss Howells, has been released and enquiries are ongoing.

Enquiries are also continuing at locations across Bradford and Doncaster.

Police investigating the disappearance of a woman from North Yorkshire have recovered what are believed to be human remains.

They were found on private land in Station Road, Doncaster earlier today (Friday).

Enquiries are ongoing to establish if these belong to Susan Howells, who was last seen in Harrogate in February. Susan’s family have also been informed.

Two men have been charged in relation to her disappearance and have been remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court later this month.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Vanessa Rolfe, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said:

“Our thoughts remain with Susan’s family at this difficult time, and they are being supported by specially trained officers as our enquiries continue.”

Police investigating the disappearance of a woman from North Yorkshire have confirmed that human remains found in Doncaster are those of Susan Howells.

The remains were found last Friday by officers searching private land in Station Road.

Forensic tests have now confirmed that the remains are of the 52-year-old from Harrogate, who was reported missing in August.

Her family have been informed.

Two men have been charged in connection with her disappearance and have been remanded to appear at Leeds Crown Court later this month.

Enquiries are continuing to establish how she died and officers are continuing to search locations in Bradford and Doncaster.

Not sure what the Bradford connection is, or why West Yorkshire Police are heading up the investigation.

A HOUSE that was part of a major murder enquiry has been boarded up, after 11 days.

An address on Independent Street, Little Horton, was part of a police investigation that led to the discovery of the remains of Harrogate woman Susan Howells.

A square of overgrown grass, just opposite the house, was also cordoned off by officers.

Enquiries were still being made there at the beginning of today, with Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers seen removing evidence bags from the property.

Officers were also continuing to search inside and outside the home.
