CCTV is effective but it must be maintained in working order

    [snip]

A camera that could have captured the last known movements of the missing Edinburgh woman, Suzanne Pilley, was not working properly and missed a windscreen wiper. It was one of 100 cases of broken or impaired CCTV cameras in Edinburgh. Although the council spent most on CCTV, it is not apparently alone in failing to ensure cameras are working.

Police release new CCTV images in bid to solve mystery of missing Edinburgh book-keeper Suzanne Pilley

THREE CCTV images could help solve the mystery of missing book-keeper Suzanne Pilley, murder squad detectives said yesterday.

Suzanne, 38, disappeared on her way to work last May. And although a man has been charged with her murder, a huge search has failed to find any trace of her body.

Now detectives have released CCTV images filmed in Edinburgh on the morning on which Suzanne was last seen alive.

The images show a woman, a man and a car which they would like to trace.

Human remains on lochside do not belong to Suzanne Pilley

HUMAN bones found on the shoreline of Loch Lomond do not belong to missing Edinburgh woman Suzanne Pilley.

    [snip]

The forensic tests on the bones also showed they were not those of two other missing women, Lynda Spence and Margaret Gardener.

Strathclyde Police said in a statement: "Initial forensic examinations have been carried out and police can confirm that the bones are that of a woman who is believed to be 35, or more, years of age. Unfortunately, we do not yet know the identity of the person."

David Gilroy launches fresh appeal over murder of Suzanne Pilley

David Gilroy, 50, was sentenced to at least 18 years in prison after being found guilty of killing 38-year-old Suzanne Pilley, whose body has never been found.

Earlier this year, an application to the Scottish courts to take his appeal to the Supreme Court in London was denied. His legal team has now launched a bid to bypass the Scottish courts system and take the case straight to London.
