A 'devoted' dad found dead at his home by a neighbour suffered a 'quite horrific' level of injury, police have revealed. Detectives investigating the death in Mossley, Tameside, of Thomas Campbell, 38, also said 'at least' two 'high-value' Rolex watches he owned were missing and haven't been seen since.

They appealed for the public's help to locate the watches today - saying they were an 'important line of inquiry' - as a man wanted on suspicion of Mr Campbell's alleged murder was named. Speaking at a press conference today Detective Inspector Mark Davies warned the public not to approach John Bellfield, 28, and to call 999 if he is sighted. Bellfield, from Openshaw with links to Lancashire, was described as 'a dangerous individual'.

Mr Campbell 's family have also issued a tribute, describing him as a devoted dad who 'would go out of his way to help his family and friends without a second thought'. The 38-year-old was found dead at a property on Riverside in Mossley, Tameside, on July 3. Three people have been charged with conspiracy to murder in connection with his death.

Det Insp Davies told the Manchester Evening News : "The level of injuries suffered by Thomas were quite horrific. I've been a police officer for a long period of time and I was shocked by the level of injuries that he sustained so clearly anyone who is responsible for committing those injuries, I'd consider to be a violent and dangerous individual. I'd like to reiterate not to approach Bellfield if seen."

Issuing the appeal, he said: "Today we have launched an urgent appeal to find John Bellfield. We want to speak to him on suspicion of the murder of Thomas Campbell in Tameside last month.

Thomas was found by a neighbour at his home with horrific injuries that were tragically unsurvivable. We have been working tirelessly ever since to find out who we suspect was responsible. We are now able to say publicly we think that Bellfield is one of these. He is a dangerous individual and must not be approached. If you see Bellfield please call 999 immediately.

"If you are helping Bellfield and you know where he is and are withholding information, do be mindful that assisting a suspect can lead to a prison sentence of up to 10 years."

In the days prior to Mr Campbell's death, Det Insp Davies said detectives believe Bellfield was in Denton. He also has links to Lancashire but the detective said: "It's possible he could be anywhere in the country."

Det Insp Davies also said the watches 'were important to our investigation'. He said: "Also important to our investigation are at least two high-value Rolex watches. We know that Thomas owned these.

"They have been missing from his address ever since his death. We don't know where these are right now but we are releasing images of those watches in the hope that someone might recognise them and assist with where they may be now. This is an important line of inquiry."
Detectives revealed 11 people have been arrested as part of the investigation, which he described as 'complex and wide-ranging'.

Stephen Raymond Cleworth, 37, of Charles Street, Heywood; Coleen Campbell, 38, of Bamford Street, Clayton; and Reece Steven, 29, of Poplar Street, Middleton, have been charged with conspiracy to murder.
And Det Insp Davies read out a statement from Mr Campbell's family. Tom was a loving son, brother, uncle and a devoted father. He was always smiling. He would go out of his way to help his family and friends without a second thought."

"We would ask anyone with information to come forward...his children are missing him dearly." The force have released three images of Bellfield.

The Government's chief legal adviser has been asked to review the sentences of three people jailed following the murder of Thomas Campbell, to consider whether they are 'unduly lenient'. Mr Campbell was tortured to death in his own homeafter being ambushed by three men armed with weapons.

The case is currently is under consideration and no decision has been made. The Attorney General's office has 28 days from the day sentence was passed to review the case.

From the news article;
'Thomas, 38, was robbed and murdered in his own home after being ambushed by three men at his front door in July. He was 'tortured to death' during a two hour ordeal, during which he was stabbed, beaten up and strangled, as well as having boiling water poured on his genitals.
....
Belfield, an alleged drug dealer, was said to be motivated by revenge because Thomas was in a relationship with a former girlfriend of his. The robbers were said to have targeted Thomas, a convicted drug dealer, because they believed he had drugs, valuables or cash in his home.'

:( That's pretty grim. Nasty, twisted people.
