Could he be one of the internees from the relocation camps for people of ethnic Japanese origin? There were a lot of relocation camps in Utah in WW2.

I also wondered that. Are there records of internees that escaped or went missing?

Newspaper reports state the body could've been Sophus Olsen (or Olson) that went missing about 1940. I don't see that Sophus was ever listed as a missing person. He had no children, so I'm not sure if anyone would know if he's actually still missing or not.

How would they know the skeleton was Asian in those days? White was crossed out, then yellow was entered on the death certificate.

Skeleton found on the salt flats near Kaysville by two boys out riding. Appears to be male, possibly of Asian or Native American descent, about 65 years of age. Found on Sept 8th, 1944, buried on Sept 20th 1944
