UT - Kouri Richins, 33, Author, wife, mom, charged in husband’s unexpected death last year, May 2023 #2

More info on Kouri's google searches.

There is a video of her talking on a TV show in this article, promoting her book on grief. After she says 'his death was a total shock' it looks like she does a little smirk. Anyone else see it?

"The state has provided no evidence that there was fentanyl in the home," said Skye Lazaro, counsel for Kouri Richins. "Nor have they provided any evidence that Kouri gave the fentanyl at issue."

The statements are in a new motion asking a judge to release Kouri pending her trial, contending the accused killer and mother of three young boys is not a danger and not a flight risk.

Eric died either late March 3 or early March 4, 2022, in the Richins' family home in the Kamas area. Prosecutors said a toxicology report showed he had five times a lethal dose of fentanyl in his system.

In the new filing, the defense said Kouri gave Eric a drink and that he took two sips at roughly 9:15 p.m. on March 3 before she went to sleep in one of their childrens' bedrooms.

The defense said Eric had a phone call with a friend an hour and a half later, and was on social media and the internet until nearly midnight.

Kouri said she came back to the couple's room at 3 a.m., found Eric cold, and called 911.

So it looks like we can see Kouri's defense shaping up. My guess is she's going to claim he was an addict or heavy recreational drug user. She may have purchased the fentanyl, but she gave it to Eric and what he did with it is on him.

That presents a whole new set of hurdles. Like this totally average guy who likes to party, according to info that's getting out in the press, suddenly decides to use fentanyl? Even though I think it's pretty common knowledge that fentanyl can be deadly in even tiny amounts. And not one other person noticed any sort of behavior from Eric that indicated drug use?

He warned his sister about Kouri why? Just because he was a vindictive guy and wanted to slam Kouri in a divorce? Get full custody, not pay child support? Make her the bad guy?

What about her google searches? How can those be explained?

Kudos to the defense for putting out those seeds, though. You never know when a plant might grow even in the most unlikely soil.

The defense also quoted friends who were with Eric and Kouri on February 20, 2022, less than two weeks before Eric died, and said the couple “never seemed happier.” Attorneys for Kouri also note Eric’s name for her in his phone was “My Princess.”

Also in the defense motion filed Friday, attorneys quote witnesses who say Eric “was a partier and loved a good time,” and they recounted stories about “trips and drinking and drugs in Hawaii, Africa, New Orleans, Las Vegas, and Mexico.”
And how do we not know she didn’t change her name on his phone?

From the quoted link -- incriminating internet searches:

The new court filings also indicate Kouri allegedly made incriminating internet searches during the second search of her home, on the day she was arrested. The searches were: can cops force you to do a lie detector test; women Utah prison; what are you allowed inside Utah jails; if someone is poisoned what does it go down on the death certificate as; can FBI find deleted messages; when does the FBI get involved in a case; how long does life insurance companies take to pay; and more.
Everyone knows you’d go to the library in disguise to search those questions on Google.

The devil is in the details. She shoulda Googled "prisons for rich first-degree murderers". She'd get a whole different answer.

CNN —
“What is a lethal dose of fentanyl” is one of many phone searches that investigators say were made by Kouri Richins, a Utah widow accused of killing her husband before she authored a children’s book about grief.

The new details on the widow’s alleged search history emerged as part of the prosecution’s case against Richins, 33, who will be in a Park City, Utah, court Monday for a detention hearing. A judge is expected to decide if she should be released or remain in custody pending the outcome of her trial.

Prosecutors allege she killed Eric Richins, her husband of nine years, with a lethal dose of fentanyl. She faces charges of criminal homicide, aggravated murder and three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. She has not yet entered a plea.
