UT - Kylen Schulte, 24, & Crystal Beck, 38, newlywed couple found dead, Grand County, 18 Aug 2021

Here is a link to a La Sal Mountains webcam. It's available to search back 6 years of footage. Perhaps there is someone here who has eagle eyes.

Windy as forecasted

And FYI, Cindy Sue has said in various interviews that the "creek" was not a creek at all, but barely a stream. I don't think Kylen was very deep under water.

Nice find of the webcam. Looks like the camera is uphill from the crimescene and is viewing north. The rock formation seen is Castleton Tower. The road shown is north of the turnoff into the campsite. Cars coming and going towards Moab would not be seen this far north.

Nothing much in media coverage, I was only able to find 1 article about this escaped prisoner who happened to be in the area at the time of the murders. I’m curious if LE looked into him as POI?

https://www.fox13now.com/news/crime/how-a-wanted-fugitive-from-kansas-was-caught-in-southern-utah

Thanks for the update. I dunno -- seems whenever Grant County makes a statement, it never sounds like they are speaking with confidence:

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office told FOX 13 they are aware of Colt, and separately said they are looking into all tips and leads related to the murder of Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner. However, they say they have not made a connection between them.

This article says that the FBI & Utah State is assisting in the case.
FBI joins investigation into killing of 2 newlywed women found near Utah campsite
Given the date of the article 8/24, I hope it remains true that FBI and Utah State are still actively assisting with this double homicide. I was concerned that FBI, already involved in the Petito case, was acting as a double agent to first eliminate BL.
Since there are no regular updates from GCS, perhaps Mr. Schulte is the best source to confirm. MOO

Did I hear correctly? Has creeper dude/creepy guy been identified?

Real question.

Seems the escaped Kansas perp John Colt was steadily employed for two months more than 150 miles from Moab but in his own words, he believed he would rape women if released.

While at Larned State Hospital, 42-year-old John Freeman Colt said that his "hostility towards women is escalating" and if he ever gets out he will go on a "rape spree," the documents state.

Escaped sexual predator from Kansas said he would go on 'rape spree' if he ever got out, docs say

Creekbed with a trickle of water or damp sand is probably a better description.

I sure hope this case doesn't go cold.

I cannot find the article ANYWHERE now, but was a suspect in custody or were they questioning said suspect?

I’ve seen this many many many times before, article gets published then shortly later article is deleted or edited to the point it’s basically not the same article, we also know LE will get ahold of whoever published said article if there is info in it that can jeopardize the investigation.

this case really bothers me, the fact that there is minimal info and Kylens father is desperately trying to find answers, he deserves answers. That was his baby. It seems like the touristy places just don’t like the coverage. But this is ridiculous it needs to be solved and if there is a wacko rapist out there raping and killing women then we should never be told that the general public is “ Not at risk”, if they stop saying that crud then maybe people would be more alert and aware and more opted to phone the police.

all imo jmo moo etc.

We justice for these two lovely ladies and their family!
Edited weirdo typos lol

so gross! And saying something like that and getting released? Not a smart move whatsoever, why are these crazies being let out to harm again? Ugh!

No, he was NOT released -- he escaped from a Kansas mental hospital in June and was captured in Utah. Communications discovered by law enforcement revealed Colt had established an intimate relationship with an employee and discussed plans for his escape months in advance.

His FB profile was easy to find. Several pics were posted on Aug 17-18. Were they from the La Sal Loop Road area? Can anyone identify the locations?

From the article:
"After his arrest, authorities discovered Colt had made a Facebook profile under a different name where he posted numerous photos of his campsite, tent, motorcycle and himself posing with a shotgun and a rifle.
Colt told the locals that his name was Jason Holt."
ETA the gun pics seem to have been removed but the video matched the one in the MSM article

If anyone had gotten a chance to listen to this can you post a recap of what Crystals mom was saying?
I can’t get the podcast to play.
please and thank you!!
It's pretty sad. Crystal was her only daughter and was raised with four brothers. Beverly (mother) has lost 4 of her 5 children and Crystal's brother died just a few months before Crystal was murdered. Beverly really did not know (or provide) any more details about the murder investigation than we do.

Crystal and Kylen did travel to AR to attend her son's HS graduation this year and the couple stayed with Beverly. I believe the wedding also took place in AR which her mother and family attended.

From the podcast - Crystal became a mother of 3 children at a young age, and lost her 2 younger daughters due to addiction. Her repeated attempts to regain custody of her daughters were also denied for testing positive for alcohol and drug use. Court records indicated big improvement when Crystal moved to Utah, and her attempt to regain custody then was not due to drugs but because she did not have a job.

Case of Kylen Schulte, Crystal Turner: No new information, says sheriff

In a statement released late Wednesday night, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office says it “has no additional information to release at this time in regards to the investigation of this case.”

<snip>

In October, authorities released an affidavit for a search warrant related to the case. The affidavit, obtained by ABC4, was signed on September 20 and executed on the same day. In it, investigators request a “tower dump” from a cell tower at Jimmy Keen Flats, not far from the campsite of Schulte and Turner, from 9 p.m. on August 13 through 9 a.m. on Sunday, August 15. Additionally, the affidavit states this could be limited to “those phones that are only within two miles of the crime scene.”

I don't know if it's tourism, the politics of the region, or both but IMO, there just seems to be a hands-off approach between Grand County LE and local media.

I'm thinking specifically about a case in San Diego County where even before husband Larry Millete was named POI for disappearing his wife Maya, and later arrested for her murder, both public pressure and media were instrumental in pushing SCSO to begin issuing a public update at least every two weeks. Of course, no information was released that would affect the integrity of the investigation but at a minimum, the public had a growing count on the total number of interviews and search warrants issued-- and some confidence that the victim's case had some measurable activity.

Perhaps it's nothing more than the same tired question of why some cases capture the world's attention with non-stop media coverage, while some get little or not.

Sorry for the rant! I almost wish I'd not listened to the podcast with Beverly, Crystal's mom. :(:(

thank you for the recap on the podcast much appreciated!
I completely understand your rant. But I’m glad that crystals mom spoke out because we really do not know much about these ladies and this case definitely isn’t getting much attention like at all and you think it would have gotten more attention since it was going on during the petito case locally. You know they’ve had a few deaths over there and I’m wondering if now that all these bodies were recovered during the petito search that they just have a huge case load of work from all those cases and all the public pressure in such a tourist area so they don’t wanna be like “oh yea stay outta this town cuz there’s a mad man on the loose” it’s bad for tourism. But they need to say that there is a wacko on the loose so people can be more cautious and safe. I hope that there is a big break in the case. I understand the job of LE investigators detectives is a tough job and it don’t help that everywhere is short staff. Hope that this gets solved soon!!
