SOUTH SALT LAKE — Greg and Heidi Miller say it's too painful and emotionally draining to think about it all the time.

But on the second anniversary of the death of Heidi's mother, Sherry Black, they are still seeking closure to the unsolved crime.

When the father confronted Nielsen about the theft, the report states Nielsen warned him that "if he got police involved he will set off a chain of events he's not going to like because he is a member of a gang."

Police reports state Nielsen was affiliated with an Insane Clown Posse, or Juggalos gang and had access to guns.

But despite putting the DNA into a national database, there have been no matches after five years...

There is still a $50,000 reward offered by the Miller family for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Black's killer. Police pleaded with the public on Monday for anyone with information to step forward.

The killer had left some blood behind after the stabbing; police theorize the man cut his hand while stabbing Black. His DNA was entered into the FBI’s national database, the Combined DNA Index System, but so far there has been no match, police said.

New DNA testing has allowed South Salt Lake Police to get one step closer to catching Sherry Black’s killer.

“We can produce great predictions for the person’s ancestry, eye color, hair color, skin color, freckling, and face shape,” said Detective Ben Pender with South Salt Lake City Police.

Utah launches new cold case database
"The database is the result of SB160, which was passed during last year's legislative session. The new law makes it mandatory for Utah law enforcement agencies to enter their cold cases and missing persons cases into the database. Any case that remains unsolved for three years must be submitted to the database.

"Now we have to put the information in so connections will be made," Brown said.

There are more than 400 cold cases in Utah, according to the state, including homicide and missing people cases, and deceased people who have yet to be identified."
"The state already had a cold case and missing person website for many years. But Karra Porter, head of the nonprofit Utah Cold Case Coalition — a group dedicated to helping solve cold cases in Utah that was consulted during the formation of the new database — said the old state website hadn't been updated since 2007.

"Cases like Sherry Black are not mentioned on any publicly available website anywhere," she said.


On Nov. 30, 2010, Black, 64, the mother-in-law of former Larry H. Miller Group CEO Greg Miller, was found stabbed to death inside her bookstore, B&W Billiards and Books at 3466 S. 700 East. To date, there is no known motive for the killing, and police have not identified a suspect or a person of interest.


Porter said when talking with lawmakers when the database was proposed, she printed a list of cold cases that her group had compiled, and compared it to the state database.


"The first 14 on our list were not on a public database. So there was a signficant need for this," she said."

According to a probable cause for arrest statement, DNA was collected from Durborow on Wednesday, and it came back Thursday as a match to DNA evidence collected from the murder scene — B&W Billiards & Books, which the victim and her husband owned.''

"The diligent work of the detectives from both agencies over the last ten years has resulted in today’s arrest," Sheriff Rosie Rivera wrote in a statement. Very interested in the motive considering that nothing was stolen, although he has been in trouble for shoplifting in the past. (Maybe it was at that store and was reported, so he got in trouble and went back out of revenge?)
Needlessly brutal crime, Ms Black was beaten and stabbed, seems personal, maybe we will learn more about the motive tomorrow, imo, speculation.
