Some of us here in the area aren't all that thrilled with the Hampton PD and Newport News PD over their mishandling of the Keir and Chloe Johnson missing person case. The two depts batted the case back and forth and a week went by before either of them issued the Amber Alert. We still don't know if either dept tried to track Keir's vehicle through traffic cams given that it found a few miles away on the shoulder of a busy highway about 2 weeks later.

Every time I think of this case I keep thinking of the unsolved Keir/Chloe Johnson case and wonder if history is repeating itself.

I didn't follow that case but I can see where that would give one pause about the departments involved in that case. That said, I think the reason Codi hasn't been found yet lies squarely on the shoulders of their father and his complete lack of cooperation in telling them about the events that led up to him being missing.

Mental health evaluation details Cory Bigsby’s ‘bizarre’ behavior in jail.
Zwermer highlighted two instances that led him to believe Bigsby doesn’t understand the seriousness of the charges against him. When the doctor asked Bigsby about the 30 charges he’s facing, he said he was arrested for “buying too many groceries” and that he “didn’t take the kids when they were asleep.”

The doctor also asked Bigsby why he believed he was getting a forensic evaluation, and he said, “Maybe they think I’m smart. Maybe they want to give me my kids back. Maybe I might be ready to go home.

Hmmm... I don't know... It makes me wonder if he's trying to fake being crazy, or faking he doesn't understand what's going on.

His response of "Buying too many groceries" and "he didn't take the kids when they were asleep" doesn't sound (to me) like someone who doesn't understand the charges. But rather someone who perhaps minimizes their crime. He must have left the kids alone often while running errands/buying groceries. Hence the sort of smart alek response of being charged with buying too many groceries (aka: leaving very young children unattended at home for long periods of time on numerous occasions) He seems to think it's outrageous he's being charged for leaving them alone since they were askeep, as if that made his solo adventures perfectly safe.

It's not that he doesn't understand the charges, he just seems to think the charges are stupid.

I figure a whole lotta faking ,I've talked to a few lady's that attended court for him he recognizes family at court even yells out to them.i wonder if he's faking to keep his military benefits & to get outta jail? I'm sorry but he wasn't crazy when he got out of the military he wasn't crazy when he bought the house he wasn't crazy when he went shopping or anything else he wasn't crazy when he reported Codi missing but now that he's looking at alot of jail time he's crazy nope I don't think so jmoo

On any given day, there are more than 900 people missing in Virginia. That number, according to Virginia State Police, reflects current missing children and adult cases, including cases that span decades.

Investigators track as many cases as possible, while a Hampton Roads-based volunteer group also covers ground.

13News Now has introduced the community to Water Team Inc. before. The group has spent more than a year searching for missing Hampton four-year-old Codi Bigsby. ...

[...]

... But the little boy is not the only one on their radar.

“Unfortunately, right now, we are over 500 people still actively missing,” Slabinski said. “There is the ability to search every day somewhere for somebody.”

The main reason is that the groups know the Bigsby family has ties in the Maryland area near Washington D.C. They want to put up flyers like this one to let family members know Codi is not forgotten.

“We are going because we are letting the residents of Maryland know this child is still missing,” said Nancy Strickland with “We are Codi’s Voice.”

We sat down with both leaders of the groups traveling to Maryland on Monday.

“The awareness needs to be brought to them as well that this baby is missing from Hampton,” Klalil Cribb told 10 On Your Side. He heads “United We Stand of Hampton Roads.”

They believe people are forgetting Codi Bigsby.

[...]

Some would believe this trip is a waste of time. Not to them.

“Absolutely not,” Strickland said. “This is not a waste of time. What does it hurt to search, exactly? What does it hurt? We need to keep his name out there.”

They make the trip knowing that the Hampton Commonwealth’s Attorney and the former Hampton Police Chief, Mark Talbot say that Codi is presumed dead.

[...]

They vow to keep remembering Codi.

“Codi is not going to be forgotten,” Strickland said. “I’ve said from the start, ‘We are Codi strong.’ We will never let Codi’s name die. We are Codi’s voice.”

Good to see some public exposure. There hasn't been much from LE in the last several months so this fills in the gaps. The exposure means Codi is less likely to be forgotten.

We watched them leave, these two determined goodwill ambassadors.

They stopped at a rest area to hang a flyer.

They went to a Metro stop in Capitol Heights to spread the word, putting flyers under windshield wipers for Metro riders to see upon their return. The Bigsby family has members living around Capitol Heights.

And the final stop is the White House. Strickland took video of Cribb taping up a flyer on a park bench.

Strickland can be heard on tape.

“Hey everybody this is Nancy Strickland of We are Codi’s Voice, and here is Klalil Cribb of United We Stand of Hampton Roads and we have made it to the White House to post the poster right outside the White House. We hope we can bring some type of awareness in D.C.”
