VA VA - Dashad "Sage" Smith, 19, Charlottesville, 20 Nov 2012

I posted a link to the article, which includes the photos, to the "Find Dashad 'Sage' Smith" Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/FindSageSmith

It was awkward writing the post, partly because the public belief is that Sage will be found alive, and partly because I didn't know which name or pronoun to use. The page always uses Dashad, and I finally found a post from awhile back that said "him," so that's what I went with.

I think the usual usage is that when you refer to Sage, you say "she," and when it's Dashad, you say "he." At least that's how my transsexual friend used to handle it years ago.

The pair was supposed to have met up at an Amtrak station but never did. McFadden told police he traveled to New York City the week Smith disappeared. McFadden broke off contact with authorities and has not been seen since, police say.

BBM. I'd be interested in know if they really never met at the station. I'd also be interested in knowing if they didn't meet that day at all elsewhere.

Something about this sounds off. Unless McFadden has any other legal troubles, or panicked if he is innocent and afraid of being incriminated, it sounds very suspicious to run away. :twocents:

A member posted this in another thread so I'm bringing it over. Searches were done in Henrico County for Sage.

Roberts said detectives conducted searches throughout Charlottesville and scoured a landfill in Henrico County for weeks.

Well when you buy a train ticket you have to go to booth verify your ticket . Even if a person does it online it will get the #cc number which leads to alot of things like car plates, address. phone numbers( the booth does have camera's) if it a gift ticket its the other person name as well as the rider.

There is a train station in henrico county with the same name amtrak. That is the same area where these claim bones where found is not that far from it. A few miles away.( not saying its Sage or anything) Just saying henrico has amtrack station and this area is not that far from it

The best bet in this case is to see if this eric guy or whom ever bought this ticket in person or did online. Once you arrive, the train station verify's you with ID.

Now if someone drove and picked someone up this would verify Desage being in henrico becuase the amtrack takes the ID of all riders coming on and off trains. As far as if some one was waiting for him/her thats going to fall on camera's back logs,

The good thing about this is theres sercurity gate at the amtrack parking lot in Henrico County. Also camera's in it. Also stores near by with parking lot camera's

In the news again as LE search for missing student Hannah.

"Dashad “Sage” Smith

Age at time of disappearance: 19

Missing since: November 20, 2012

Missing from: Charlottesville

Smith was last seen on West Main Street. Dashad, who identified as transgender and also went by Sage, was allegedly going to meet Erik McFadden, who spoke with police once, then disappeared".

"DaShad Laquinn Smith

Smith is a transgender woman who has not been seen since November 20, 2012 when she was just 19 years old.

Smith was last seen on the 500 block of west Main Street in Charlottesville, Virginia around 6:30 pm.

DaShad, who dressed as both a man and a woman, was supposed to meet up with a man at an Amtrak Station on November 20 but never showed up.

After a few days without contact and a missed Thanksgiving dinner, her family notified police.

Police have searched the Charlottesville area to include a landfill but no clues have been found.
Erik McFadden

Investigators would like to speak with Erik T. McFadden, who Smith was expected to meet the night she disappeared.

McFadden told police he had traveled to New York City the week Smith went missing and then stopped responding to calls.

He had attended Lincoln University in Pennsylvania and had just moved to Charlottesville in 2012.

The police are not clear about the relationship between McFadden and Smith, and McFadden has not been charged with a crime but is a person of interest in the case.

It is as if McFadden has also disappeared.

This case remains unsolved.

Hannah Graham

Now Hannah Graham has gone missing from the same area.

On September 23, an arrest warrant was issued for Jesse Matthew for abduction with the intent to defile, the same crime Taylor was charged with in the Murphy case."

All of the missing need to be found. I met Sage's grandmother last year. She was a sweet lady. IMO, she was heartbroken that the media was so vigilant in assisting to find another missing young lady and yet her loved one only got a small blurb. It made me so sad to see her wondering why the person she loved wasn't being given the same considerations. I've seen three other young lady's disappear in Cville and so many people take an interest in their cases. Sage/Dashad didn't get that same respect. Please keep her in your thoughts and on the minds of LE as much as you can.

Sage gets the same respect here as the others and obviously has not been forgotten, nor will be!

National missing persons center to hold rallies in Nelson, McIntire Park

“After so many years, these cases fade from the public’s radar, but for the families and friends of a missing person, the nightmare continues — every minute of every day their loved one is absent,” said Monica Caison, founder of CUE.

After the first stop of the multi-state, 4,000-mile trek in Rocky Mount on Friday night, the group will hold three more rallies in Virginia the following day: one in Nelson County, with the families of Alexis Murphy and Morgan Harrington; another in Charlottesville for Dashad “Sage” Smith and Bonnie Santiago; and a final stop in Fredericksburg for missing Orange County woman Samantha Clarke, among others."

"The Charlottesville stop honored Dashad Sage Smith, Bonnie Santiago, Janet Renee Field and Hannah Graham. All of these cases had different levels of publicity.

"Some of these families have never even gotten any more than a three inch column with no photo in a newspaper. Their story has not been told enough for anyone to remember,” said Kaison.

The tour stops can be great tools for law enforcement agencies investigating these cases.

"It's very important for them to see who's showing up and also to make themselves available in a more relaxed situation where somebody could come up and speak with them,” said Kaison.

Helping families rise above their pain and keep their loved ones' legacies alive is one of the biggest parts of the tour stops".

Reward in Dashad Smith Missing Person Case Up to $20K

Charlottesville Police Department Press Release
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - November 20, 2014 marks the 2-year anniversary of the disappearance of Dashad Laquinn Smith, known to friends and family as Sage Smith, a resident of the City of Charlottesville.
If you have information as to McFadden’s whereabouts or information related to the investigation please contact Detective Ron Stayments of the Charlottesville Police Department at 434-970-3369 or Crimestoppers at 434-977-4000. Please note that an additional $10,000 is being added to the reward fund by the City of Charlottesville bringing the total reward to $20,000 for any information that leads to the return of Sage Smith or to the arrest of the person responsible for Sage’s disappearance.

Sage’s family and friends will be holding a candlelight vigil to mark the 2 year anniversary of Sage’s disappearance this coming Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 731 Orangedale Avenue, Charlottesville, Virginia.

This is an opinion article published by the Managing Board of the Cavalier Daily comparing community response and demographic marginalization between Sage's case and Hannah's.
http://www.cavalierdaily.com/article/2014/11/in-two-years-time
For two years, they have heard nothing. Friends and family of Charlottesville resident Sage Smith have received no closure since her disappearance, 729 long days ago.<snip>
There are also other factors which vary with each individual case. There may be different amounts of information available to conduct an investigation. But Hannah Graham’s case is similar to Sage Smith’s case in one respect — there was a person of interest who was sought, and in the former case he was found and in the latter case his whereabouts remain unknown. Jesse Matthew was apprehended even after fleeing to Texas because the story and his photo were so widely circulated. Is it possible that Erik McFadden has been able to fly under the radar for so long because the national media did not pick up the case?

Hi everyone, I am a friend of the Smith family, and would like to announce a vigil tomorrow Thursday, November 20th, 2014 to mark the 2nd year anniversary of Sage Smith's disappearance. It will be held at Lolita Smith's (Sage's grandmother) house on xxxx Orangedale Ave at 7pm. This day is of special importance because it also marks Trans Day of Remembrance.

I originally came here to post the latest update on the reward, and sincerely appreciate that others beat me to it. :) Just for the record, this increased reward would not have happened without community pressure pointing out the discrepancies in the handling of Sage's case and the handling of Hannah Graham's case.

On a related note, please keep Lolita in your thoughts as she is struggling greatly with her health at this moment, and the stress caused by this disappearance certainly hasn't helped.
