Daniel Lewis, a firefighter with Fire Station 15 in Richmond, was reported missing on Monday, July 29. Police responded to Lewis’ home in the 400 block of Nelson Drive in Newport News for a welfare check after a Battalion Chief from the Richmond Fire Department requested it.

When no one answered, the property manager let officers into the home, and Lewis was not found in the residence.

Lewis commutes from Newport News to Richmond for work.

Oh no, that's not good.

I wonder if his vehicle was missing? It said that he commutes to Richmond, which is almost an hour and a half away- I have relatives in both Newport News and Richmond and have made the commute to their homes back and forth in the past. Depending upon where in Richmond and Newport News, it could take 1 and 1/2 hours to just over 2 hours to get there.

I wonder if his keys, wallet, cell phone is missing, too? They didn't give many details, other than he wasn't at his residence. I hope he's ok!

Its odd, the Battalion Chief called it in. Employers usually notify emergency contact or family.

Wonder when he was last seen? Very little information....

Yes, I thought the same thing about the Chief requesting a welfare check. I wonder if he missed work or what circumstance caused the Chief to request the check? The commute is long but he wouldn't have to make it every day. Firefighters usually work 24 hour shifts. Work a few in a row, have a few off.

Now that's its been established the family was contacted, I agree.

The first articles did not mention family.

Plenty of bodies of water. Chesapeake Bay, James River. Not sure it is easy to accidentally drive into one of these, though.

I assume he took I-64 to work.

Authorities searching for missing Richmond firefighter who formerly worked in Roanoke

Below is a statement from Roanoke Fire-EMS:

"Firefighter Daniel Lewis came to the Roanoke Fire-EMS department in 2013 and during his 3-year tenure with our department he was a wonderful firefighter and friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with Daniel’s family and friends during this time and we are praying for his safe return home. He was with our department until 2016."

He also worked in with Hampton Fire and Rescue. Worked with my husband while he trained for his paramedic certification. They all say he is a first class guy all the way at work and just all around personally that they knew. Gotta remember these guys live together on 24 shifts so you do get to know them well. They all say this is really truly not his normal behavior. They were all hoping it was a schedule mistake. Keeping our hopes up from Hampton!!

I hope he's ok. First responders have a high suicide rate.

Yeah, it sounds like his boss checked with them first, then called it in once they couldn’t reach him either. It’s so worrisome that he’s been gone so long! I hope they are able to find him safe.
