If you were driving along Rocky Mount's Old Franklin Turnpike near the CVS, it was anything but quiet. Supporters of Heather Hodges held signs asking drivers to give a little tap on the horn.

“It’s important to me because Heather deserves this attention. She deserves any attention that I can give her as her being a part of this community and my friend,” said Cheryl Pagans...

Members from national organizations like CUE, Center for Missing Persons and Help Save the Next Girl, also held up signs for Heather. “I'm pleased to know that they are with us in our efforts to bring Heather home,” said Pagans.

Friends of missing Franklin County woman ask county’s permission to build memorial

Friends and supporters of Heather Hodges want to keep her memory alive. The Franklin County mother has been missing for nearly three years. Friends and supporters want the Franklin County Board of Supervisors to approve a site near the Black Water River.

With no body to put in a grave, an old tree stump serves as a memorial. Hodges past felony conviction may keep her memory just as a stump.

“We're all imperfect and Heather wasn't given the time to correct her mistakes, somebody took that choice from her,” said friend Wendy Nichols.

Under the county's policy, a memorial cannot be named for a person with a felony conviction. Hodges other friend Wendy Nichols asked the Board of Supervisors for an exception but was turned down unanimously.

"I'm angry," says Nichols. "What made me more angry was seeing that it was unanimous. It wasn't one person hearing what I had to say. We're not trying to change the rules we're asking for an exception."

Friends are not taking no for an answer. They're hoping to build a memorial somewhere even if it may be on private property. The hope is for Hodges' daughter to have a place to remember her mother too.

"Friends and family celebrate missing Franklin County woman's birthday"

April 2012 is the last time anyone ever saw Heather Hodges. Family and friends are celebrating her 26th birthday at the place where investigators believe she last was with the hopes that she will be home for her 27th birthday.

One by one they lit candles on a specially made birthday cake, and sang "happy birthday" to Hodges who turns 26-years-old Saturday. They also offered a wish for her because Heather wasn't there to make it herself. That was a wish that Heather would be here for her next birthday, and a wish for anyone to come forward with any information.

"This isn't normal, people just don't disappear," Haynes said. "Something happened to her and somebody knows what happened to her, and one way or another we're not giving up, we'll find out."

Not the greatest match, but there isn't many leads for Heather & this UID is a recent find. This UID estimated height of 63" is close to Heather's estimated height of 61". The estimated age of the UID is 25-35, Heather was 22 when when she went missing in 2012. Geographically, the POI could've driven to Durham, NC and back during the 6:30am - 10:30pm timeframe. DNA is available/entered for Heather, but the UID DNA isn't entered despite being available. The jean sizes of 36x32 seems WAY too big for Heather's size... maybe we should have NamUs take a look, and at least exclude Heather?

Court records show that Jordan has a criminal history that includes both felony and misdemeanor convictions, including one related to an April 5, 2012, misdemeanor assault on Paula Hodges, mother of Heather and Crystal. Paula Hodges’ handwritten account of the assault said it happened at the residence on Shady Lane and reported that Jordan had hit her with a chair and metal toys and had chased her with a baseball bat before she was able to escape the house.

In July 2017, more than five years after Hodges’ disappearance, Jordan was arrested on charges of felony abduction by force/intimidation in a case involving a 19-year-old victim, but which was unrelated to Heather Hodges’ disappearance.

In late 2018, Jordan was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison, a sentence that was related to the 2017 case. Jordan is currently incarcerated at the Green Rock Correctional Center.

Heather Dialian Hodges – The Charley Project

Updated April 2022

Details of Disappearance
Hodges was last seen at her residence on Shady Lane in Rocky Mount, Virginia at approximately 10:30 p.m. on April 9, 2012. Her live-in boyfriend, Paul R."Scooter" Jordan II, said he left to get a snack at the nearby Dairy Queen restaurant.

He said he was gone for only about ten minutes, and when he returned home Hodges was gone. She left behind her two-year-old daughter and all of her belongings, such as her car, purse and cellular phone. She has never been from again.

Hodges and Jordan were having problems at the time of her disappearance and her family described their relationship as abusive. Hodges's mother had filed a misdemeanor assault charge against Jordan a few days before the disappearance, saying he'd had struck her with chairs and other objects during an argument. He maintains his innocence in Hodges's disappearance.

She has left home in the past, but she's never been out of touch her loved ones and always remained in the local area. Her family stated she's a dedicated parent who wouldn't have abandoned her child.

Investigators have described Hodges's disapperance as "highly suspicious" and said they found evidence of a "violent event" in her home after they executed a search warrant on the premesis in June 2012.

In April 2022, Jordan was indicted on charges of second-degree murder and concealing a body in Hodges's case. A photo of him is posted with this case summary. Authorities have not released much information about the evidence against him, but stated Hodges's body has not been found.

Foul play is suspected in her case due to the circumstances involved.
