VA VA - Janet 'Renee' Field, 49, Scottsville, 2 July 2014

Same for me, JnRyan...I am a little closer, but I see no updates and have often wondered what has happened to this lady. Not the publicity that I would expect. Hope she is found very soon.

With the holidays around the corner Help Save the Next Girl is spreading the message about the many women who aren't home with their families to celebrate...

The families of Alexis Murphy and Janet Rene Field marched in the Nelson County Christmas parade on Sunday afternoon.

Families passed out fliers of the women still missing in the area with hopes that people would show their support for their families as they work tirelessly to bring them home.

Checking in to see if there's any news of Renee...it's been SOOOO long...And she would've celebrated her 50th birthday last month. I see that her husband still hasn't come out much in the media. I find that strange.

I wasn't aware of her case. Hate to see cases like hers go cold and forgotten.

Her husband posts on the FB missing page still. Strange stuff, like he's writing postcards to her. He may be a little... out there? dotty? but I don't get that hinky feeling about him, you know what I mean?

I also had the opposite thought of another poster here when I saw what was missing/left in her car - I think she very well may be voluntarily missing.

Three new articles in recognition of the 1-year anniversary of her disappearance:

There is new info, and unfortunately it's not good. Investigators think she's likely dead, the victim of foul play. The stories also have some photos I haven't seen before.

The comments from her family before (like the ones in this article: http://www.fluvannareview.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5882:missing&catid=81) had really led me to believe she had likely left voluntarily. I still wonder if the problem isn't more lack of publicity. She could be alive somewhere, and nobody she's interacted with has seen news coverage of the case to make the connection, "Hey, that looks like someone I saw last week."

Thanks for sending these articles, Megan. I am still following this case. Hoping and praying that Renee will be found soon.

I had not followed this case for some time and I came to see if there are any updates. Interesting that LE believes she is deceased. I wonder if that is based on the fact that has been gone so long or they found something in the search of the car to lead them to that conclusion.

If they are searching for a body, unfortunately I think that might be a long, hard task. Virginia is full of rural areas with dense forests and mountains and farms and plenty of areas that aren't regularly, if ever, walked by people. The James River goes right through Scottsville (I have used the landing many times), and there are so many tributaries within one or two hours' drive. Many of which have plenty of access points where no one would ever see you.

Think to Morgan Harrington and Hannah Graham. So many people were looking for them and it stilll took months. It seems like very few people are aware of this case and there seems to be a good deal of time surrounding when she was last seen.

I wonder if they have real evidence that makes them think she is deceased, or if they are going on suspicion and the fact that none of her accounts or social have seen activity for a year.

I've never been to Scottsville, but there is an annual bike race on Carter's Mt. Road/Blenheim Road, halfway between Charlottesville and Scottsville. I've raced in it a few times and trained on those roads on other occasions. I can see how difficult it would be to find someone. A body can be hidden on farm land for months like Morgan Harrington and the owner would not know.

Our grandmother had about 10-12 head of cattle on her property in the Mid West. One spring she noticed one of them was not showing up at the feeding trough. No one could find any sign of the cow. That summer I happened to walk up a hill that had no trees except for one at the top. Grass was not that high or thick. Hill was not high or steep. I found the remains of the cow underneath the tree and tree looked like it had been hit by lightning. They had looked and looked for that cow in that area of about 80-100 acres - at least half of it open, treeless prairie - and never did find it.

That land off Route 20 looks to be much harder to find something and you wouldn't be looking for something as large as a head of cattle.

Still missing

“When I describe this case to people, I use the word ‘odd’ over 57 times.”

Captain Wells told Dateline that Renee’s case is still considered an active missing persons investigation at the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office.

“It’s definitely one of the weirdest cases I’ve ever worked. There’s been a lot of late nights trying to think of something to do,” he told Dateline. “It’s one of those cases where the more you look, the more questions you have.”

Let's keep the conversation going on Janet's case. This is another one in Va. that seems solvable.

That is going to be tough. LE is saying next to nothing about this case and very little in the media. But that last update posted above sure brings out some info I had not heard before. I did not know the husband had moved to Texas either.

If The Hook from Charlottesville decided it was a good time to revisit the Missing in Virginia
