If you live on Long Island and have to travel to Manhattan to score your drugs, you're doing something wrong. You can go to any local bar or train station and find people selling - I would imagine in the 'escort' field of business you would have local connections for this as well.

The phoenix house is right down the street from the brentwood sump teen. Why do you post? I disagree. There are a lot of people who go into NY to score heroin from LI. They might have an established connection with a dealer who has better heroin

From post 198 in this thread, her sister says she went into the city every day to score (for those unaware, "the city" always means NYC if you are coming from LI or anywhere in Jersey):

"A few months before Amber disappeared, Overstreet persuaded Amber to enter a detox program at Nassau University Medical Center, but while Overstreet was caring for their sick father back in Wilmington, she says, Amber relapsed. “Her daily routine was she would get up, she would take the train into the city, cop, come back, set up a couple calls,” she says. Overstreet was in North Carolina and unable to help Amber this time. When she went missing, “I thought, Well, she probably just met someone who is getting high with her. Those were my exact words.” She didn’t file a missing-person report. “I knew,” she says, “it wouldn’t be taken seriously.”
 
I've been looking back at the beginning of the thread, and one of the interesting Oak Beach residents who was mentioned (by initials only, he's not a POI) turns up in this article from last year about a billionaire sentenced to prison for assaulting his ex-wife. Not that I believe that case has anything to do with anything, it just contained an aside that made me go "hmm, odd and possibly illegal, depending on the actual age of those involved at the time".

edited to add: the person in question is alleged to be 19 at the time so not illegal, nevermind if so.

this forum is pretty sorry. We've never done any good research on Yohay, just that one forum post about prositutes in thailand. Never any research into the drifter. Nothing on KU or the PD neighbor of hackett. We have done a pretty ****** job here if I may say so myself I think we are all pretty pathetic

This is why I dont believe Amber went to Manhattan everyday to get her drugs. David could not reveal his and Ambers go to person on the Island. That would have brought him trouble.

If I remember right didn't Amber's sister say they got their drugs sometimes from Manhattan?

Does anyone recall how Amber was identified? Nobody reported her missing so how did SCPD identify her? I can't remember if that was ever addressed...TIA!

Good question! I went through old news reports and found this:

"Overstreet said she went to North Carolina to care for her father, who has lung cancer. While there, friends called to ask if she had heard from Costello.

They shared the details of the grisly find at Gilgo Beach. Overstreet provided a DNA swab and waited for the results, with a confirmation coming in late January."

I assume the police know whether Amber had a phone. From what I read, she didn't have a phone to take with her that day. Can anyone find the article that says she didn't have a phone? There is nothing that would make ALC leave her phone behind, if the killer asked her not to bring it, she would simply keep the phone turned off while on the date. Don't forget, she's getting in this guys car, how is she going to get home? He is going to come pick her up and drop her off the next day? I know this is old but I'm catching up on posts here. Here are my thoughts.... Why would they let her go and not check up or report her missing ? I have two different theories. The first being the heroin. You ask why the heroin??? I will tell you why. Heroin brings you into the bowels of society. The teen for the drug is so intense that you will do things you never dreamed possible just to get more money to buy drugs. Heroin addicts are also constantly disappearing. They will go on binges, they will get arrested, they will run off with other addicts, they will end up in hotels, etc. Heroin isn't just a problem here it's an epidemic. I have lost several old friends in the last year. Heroin turns you into a selfish, uncaring, monster. Your fellow addicts are only out for themselves. Whether you're there or not, they still need their fix. I can't tell you how many stories I've heard where one addict od'd and the "friends" who were with them did nothing to revive them or call police. The non addict people in your life sort of her used to the disappearing act after a while. more often than not, they're looked at as a lost cause. It's that simple.

The other theory is a little far fetched but maybe there's a more sinister reason he never reported her missing. Has anyone ever looked at DS and thought maybe he is LISK himself? Let's see. He works in the fishing industry. He knows the ins and outs of the escort business and he seems relatively harmless. Maybe that's why her phone was left behind because he knew she wasn't going to be needing it. Maybe that's why it seemed like Amber "knew this guy". I wonder if LE ever looked into the people in the victims' lives in that way. I mean why was this guy taking in all of these escorts? It's kind of weird. In The lost girls book it seemed like Dave was a relatively normal guy who was doing good for himself before he met ALC and KO and he kind of got accidentally roped into this dark world by no fault of his own.
