Possible Victim: Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, missing July 2007, found Gilgo Beach Dec 2010 *POI Rex Heuermann*

im referring to a comment made down the post, referring Port Authority bus terminal being a ideal place to picking up the girls, for being rather favored by sex workers, plus a shelter, a methadone center, and some sketchy bars nearby at the time.
Excuse me?

OMG silly me! I was looking at your "Fluent broken english here" signature and thought it was a comment to my post. LOL! Sorry about that :)

Does anyone know the ethnicity of Maureen/Missy’s children?

I know when Melissa Barthemy went missing the killer called and racially abused her mini-racial younger sister, calling her a half breed.

I’ve noticed this is a common theme with some of the victims and their social media profiles. Megan had a mixed race child, Melissa may well have had social media pice of her and her biracial little sister. Amber’s social media showed her with her sister’s biracial children. Baby doe was mixed race too. Shannan Gilbert herself was biracial and her boyfriend was a POC.

I do wonder about that. Apparently less than 3% of the US population identify as biracial, so that’s a pretty high number of biracial people involved in comparison.

Were Maureen’s children/partners biracial? Or her nieces and nephews? I wonder the same about Valerie Mack too. I’d be interested to know if they had similar links. It’s just something that jumps out at me.

In one of the calls from LISK he stated she was at a ‘whorehouse in queens’. Which from my work in that industry can be quite broad regarding Queens. There are the Asian ones in Flushing but no white American women work at them and there are the Spanish Fast Houses in Corona and Jackson Heights. Again no white American woman work at them.
The years these girls went missing there was a house in the Rockaways or Breezy Point that had white girls from out of state and girls from the Dominican Republic. The individual who owned the house was a wealthy businessman with very connected friends. This was the mans hang out home for his boat and buddies as he lived in a gated community in the Jericho area of Long Island.
The girls from DR he would groom while vacationing there promising them good money to come to NY where he would pimp them. Let’s get it straight he wasn’t your typical gangsta pimp but more of a late 50 year old man you would see leaving a country club or leaving brooks brothers. Like he had the girls as a status symbol not for making money off them.
The occasion I was at that home one bedroom was what seemed to be a very sedated white girl (she didn’t look to be a druggie and why I use the term sedated) and a Dominican Republic woman.
My connection to them was a friend who worked for the Russian mob selling MDMA to the club scene. He wasn’t Russian himself but a Jew and ended up going to federal prison for 7 years for his involvement in the drug trade. He shut his mouth and I guess the Russians saw he would be okay.

That ‘*advertiser censored* house’ in Queens when I hear it always made me think if that place would fit the bill. Obviously that businessmen with the way he got the girls up from DR and into the country had to be higher connected than one would think. It wouldn’t be hard for someone to get a girl desperate to queens and work in house with promises of something and then do what they wanted from there. However her last days seem weird to me especially with her friend going back to CT and they both planned leaving with their belongings packed ride and all. Then she backed out and said she’s staying another day and maybe will save to get them an apartment? They were leaving because they were *advertiser censored* broke. Then not even an hour after he friend left she stated on the LISK podcast she was blowing up her phone but didn’t answer. Her sister than got a call and she said she was robbed somewhere and then was in penn station? Did someone force her to make a call? She was supposedly staying in Times Square which is a 12 block walk to Penn Station. You wouldn’t go there to make a call you could have done it somewhere in Times Square. Was she at Penn because they were taking a train somewhere? Maybe Queens? Maybe she planned to work at this *advertiser censored* house in queens but didn’t want to tell her friend because she wouldn’t think it was a good idea. A lot of loose ends there.

For anyone not from NY, the location im talking is in line with Oak Beach but in Queens. It would be easy for them to travel to the area via the Ocean Parkway from anywhere west.

I question that too, the fact that she was staying another day but etc., but they had no money. (just reading that part in Lost Girls)

She technically disappeared in the early morning hours on Monday
Just noting, whether related or not, the following summer it was also in the early morning hours of a Monday that Tanya Rush was last seen.

According to Sara, Maureen had rules. 'Rule number two, if you agreed on an outcall stay in Manhattan. Don't go to Queens or Brooklyn or Staten Island or the Bronx.' The '*advertiser censored* house in Queens' comment could be a not-so-subtle reference to Maureen's rules.

July 8, 2007 (Sunday), Maureen is $400 short on what she needs for rent to avoid eviction. She and Sara walk around Midtown that night and have fun together. They sleep at the Super 8. Monday comes. Sara decides to head back to CT later that morning and Maureen stays behind. Maureen calls Sara after only one hour, at 12:27pm. Sara doesn't pick up. Later that night Al calls Sara saying Maureen called him (no mention of when) saying that she couldn't get ahold of Sara. Maureen had also told Al that the guy with the dreads, whom she & Sara met the night before, robbed her of $5,000. Sara is confused because earlier that morning - one hour before she left Manhattan - Maureen had told her she only had around $700 and needed $400 more for rent. After getting the call from Al (in the evening), Sara calls Maureen - no answer. At 11:30pm that night (Monday, July 9) Maureen calls her sister Missy from Penn Station asking for a ride home. She does NOT mention getting robbed. Missy says she can't, but will call Will. Maureen calls Missy back very shortly after, saying it's no problem, she has enough money to take the next train home. This is the last anyone hears from Maureen. On Tuesday morning (July 10) Missy calls Maureen. No answer. Super 8 hotel-records show that Maureen checked out on Monday (July 9) not Tuesday. About three weeks later, someone turns on Maureen's phone. Its signal pings off a water tower on Fire Island. Police search the area with cadaver dogs & helicopters, but find nothing.

All of this only proves 2 things: Maureen disappeared after 11:30pm on July 9 and Maureen's phone logged activity at Fire Island three weeks post-mortem.
She may have needed money, but we don't really know for sure. Was she hiding money from Melissa? Why not tell Missy she was robbed? Did she ask for the ride home because she had no money or because she needed to save money? If she had money to get home, did she also have money to take a train out to LI?

In Lost Girls, Dormer is quoted as stating "all of the girls were contacted by the killer." From this it's clear the public is missing a piece of the puzzle on Maureen. I would venture to guess that this contact occurred during or after the 11:30pm call(s) with Missy. Seems reasonable to assume that Maureen may have lined up the date after she asked for the ride home. This may be the reason why she called back saying she had enough money to get home by herself. But then again, maybe not. If this was the case, why tell Missy she'd catch "the next train home." Amtrak has trains departing throughout the night.

Missy was able to acquire Maureen's phone records from Boost mobile. There has never been any information released that Maureen was contacted by any unknown number on that phone. This doesn't mean it didn't occur, of course. That's an important detail the police would want to keep concealed. If not, however, how did the killer contact Maureen (as Dormer indicated) if not on her Boost phone? Did she have another one? I'm also quite sure that Missy would know (via the phone records) at what point Maureen's phone detached from the network and was turned off. This would likely reveal where/when Maureen meet up with the killer (assuming he asked her to turn off the phone shortly after meeting. If he was smart, he would probably let her keep it on for a little while to obfuscate the pick up location). Regardless, this location won't be exact, just the tower it detached from.

Just noticed on the Melissa Barthelemy thread that one of the calls to her sister came from Penn Station, so that would fit with it being opportunistic. I suspect he worked around there. I’d guess he lives in LI and offered to take her home with him and she could get the ferry back to Connecticut from LI the next day.

Anyone know what time she called her sister?

And what’s this about the belt link to Maureen? I’m looking but can’t find info.

Harry Feingold had connections to PENN STATION area and Oak Beach/Babylon. He was a convicted drug dealer who spent 10 years in jail. He went 'legit' after jail and went into the sex and movie business.

Okay, so I know I'm a bit late on replying to this discussion board, and I have been keeping up with this case for quite some time, but did anyone else connect these dots?
Jessica Taylor was last seen working near Port Authority Bus Terminal, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes was last seen .06 miles away from the same place.

And the late Harry Feingold had apartments and his POB right in the same area. HE MOVED there after he was convicted of drug dealing in Suffolk and spent 10 years in prison. He then went into the pornogrqphy business and Russian Bride business. In 2000 he buys a house on Savannah Walk, Oak Beach and sells it to Bellone's BFF, Bob Stricoff. That house was sold for 825 K or for twice the house was worth at the time. At the time Stricoff was the IDA CHAIRMAN for the Town of Babylon. One would think he should have known better to buy a house for twice the amount for what it was worth.c

I don’t remember the call being pinpointed that precisely. My recollection is that it was traced to a larger geographic area within Manhattan: a broader “Times Square area”, which would most likely include Penn Station.

But here’s a better question:
Is it possible that Melissa Barthelemy’s sister would ever forget EXACTLY what that caller’s voice sounded like? Not in a thousand years...
She would be able to recognize his voice IMMEDIATELY if she ever heard it again. Have law enforcement (SCPD/FBI) ever had her review voice samples of any one who was ever considered a POI/suspect? And if not, why not?

Hello all.

For some background I have been a lurker on Websleuths since hearing about it when The Killing Season came out in the fall of 2016. I am a life long resident of Long Island (specifically LI’s south shore), which has me located around 15-20min’s from LISK’s dumping ground. Additionally, I have been following this case since 2012-13, when I was a middle schooler. With that said, over the years many things in this case have troubled me. Obviously with this post being on the Maureen Brainard-Barnes page, I believe I have something to add to the discussion of her disappearance (of which I have never heard brought up before).

As many on here know, as per Melissa Cann (Maureen’s sister), the last known location of Maureen was in NYC’s Penn Station. This is where she allegedly told her sister that she would use the remaining money she had (after supposedly being robbed) to buy a train ticket home. I believe in either the most updated 48 hours episode or on the LISK podcast Cann mentioned that at the end of this call, Maureen said that she was going to go outside for a cigarette.

As I mentioned earlier, I am a life long resident of LI and thus have frequented the city via the LIRR into Penn Station more times than I can count. For those that may not know, Penn Station is a hub for the MTA’s LIRR, NJ Transit, and Amtrak. Additionally, Penn is a major station for many of the MTA’s subways as well as NJT’s path train. With that said, from Penn, the only way home to Groton CT for Maureen would have been to purchase an expensive Amtrak ticket. For someone who we have heard was robbed of her earnings from the weekend in the city, as well as someone who as a result was going to be evicted and loose custody of her child, an expensive Amtrak ticket would have been undesirable to say the least. That being said, my point is Maureen would have been logically looking for less expensive ways to get home to Groton. As I mentioned earlier, at the end of the Maureen’s call to her sister, she said that she had to go because she was going to go outside for a cigarette. From this and what I discussed earlier regarding looking for a cheaper alternative to get home, I have theorized and am suggesting that either before the break or when she went to take it, Maureen realized that she could go to Grand Central Station and take the MTA’s Metro North home towards Groton. Maureen would have done so by taking the metro north to New Haven, where she would have had to transfer to Amtrak’s Northeast Regional. This would have sufficed as a much cheaper alternative to the more expensive Amtrak ticket that Maureen would have had to have purchased, had she traveled home from Penn.

Taking all of this information into consideration, it is my theory that Maureen decided to leave Penn for Grand Central and along this journey, encountered LISK. I acknowledge that this theory can be easily disproved in many ways (i.e. if there is proof that Maureen bought an Amtrak ticket departing from Penn, cell phone data that the public is not privy to, etc). With all of this said, I am curious to hear anyone’s opinion on this theory.

per the LISK podcast
Maureen's sister Missy mentions the fact that Maureen had told her and her brother over the phone (the conversations at around 11:30pm) that she was waiting for the midnight train out of Penn. Maureen also tells Missy that she has a few other people she can call for a ride, but that she was planning on taking the next train home (aka the midnight train). Missy says that Maureen's phone records and email were heavily investigated with no leads (other than the Staten Island cop who had been in contact with Maureen and later cleared by NYPD Internal Affairs). Phone records also showed that Maureen had NOT left Manhattan the night she disappeared. The phone just went dark, as Missy says. Missy then poses her own interesting theory that the killer had stalked Maureen - further showcasing the idea that electronic records are somewhat of a dead end. If true, how would the killer know Maureen was at Penn if he hadn't communicated with her somehow? Did he follow her from the Super 8? How did he know she was there? And if he did follow her, why not pick her up on the way to Penn instead of waiting to take her in a more heavily populated area? Seems weird.

I think the key(s) lie here on LISK. In Kolker's book (page 210), Al tells Sara, that Maureen called him and said she got robbed for 5k by the guy with the dreads that they had met the night before. When Maureen called Missy that same night she mentioned nothing about getting robbed, perhaps it happened after the call to Missy? My ears went up when reading about Al's comment to Sara, something seems amiss there, it seems like a made up story. As for the cop from Staten Island, I wonder if he was "truly" investigated thoroughly? All speculation on my part but these things made me stop and think a little harder.
