VT VT - Donald Messier, 34, Waitsfield, 15 Oct 2006

The truck was located Tuesday in a deep pool of the Winooski River near River Road in Duxbury.
...
The team’s first stop was Blueberry Lake in Warren followed by several other ponds heading closer to Waterbury before they headed to the Winooski River.
...
Sonar detected an image near a bend in the river and a deep pool near a popular fishing access and the community gardens.

DUXBURY, Vt. (WCAX) - A missing person case dating back 16 years may finally have been solved. A team of divers on Wednesday discovered the missing man’s truck at the bottom of the Winooski River.

Donald Messier, 34, of Waterbury, disappeared in 2006 after leaving a party in Waitsfield. Now, members of the group Adventures with Purpose believe they may have found him.

Parts 2 and 3 below. His remains weren't found with the truck, only a (clasped) watch and a jacket. The truck's roof was missing, so IMO it's very possible that his remains were flushed away by currents. There have been a few floods in the 16 years since he went missing.

Investigators examine items found in Messier disappearance case

A month after the pickup truck belonging to Donald Messier was pulled from the Winooski River in Duxbury, investigators continue to pore over newly found objects in the river that may provide clues in the 2006 missing person case.

The physics of a sinking pickup/ute are essentially identical to those of a sinking car. Here, in an O/T case, a reporter gets upstaged by a boat ramp fail, fortunately without fatalities (IMHO, not so good for the reporter; he :-\ derps)

Details of Disappearance

Messier was last seen at a party in Waitsfield, Vermont at 2:00 a.m. on October 15, 2006. He left the gathering driving his red 1997 Ford F-150 dual cab pickup truck and has never been heard from again.
The vehicle has the Vermont license plate number BGG890, a dual exhaust, a moon visor, a black tonneau cover, and the NASCAR numbers 27, 07 and 08 displayed in the rear window. A photograph of it is posted with this case summary. Since his disappearance, Messier's bank accounts, credit cards and cellular phone have been inactive.

Messier was reported missing on October 18, three days after he was last seen, after he missed two days of work at Green Mountain Coffee Roasters without calling in. His family described him as a hard worker and a "homeboy" who rarely traveled anywhere. The only out-of-state trip he had ever taken was in the fifth grade, when his father's work briefly took the family to Florida.

In October 2022, the diving group Adventures with Purpose found Messier's pickup in the Wisnooski River in Duxbury, Vermont. The vehicle was retrieved from the river and examined, and authorities found personal items, but no human remains.

Messier was depressed at the time of his disappearance due to his recent divorce and had been hospitalized for this in August 2006; his loved ones fear he may have harmed himself. Foul play is not suspected in his case, but it's uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning and there are concerns for his safety. His case remains unsolved.
