GUILTY WA - Kassanndra Cantrell, 33, pregnant, found deceased, Parkland, 25 Aug 2020 *Arrest* #2

The plea deal and sentencing were today. He will get 320 months in prison for this. I was not in the court room today.
Good! Defendant received the high-end or 30 yrs punishment per the statute.

The laws on first degree murder in Washington are set forth in RCW 9A.32.030. According to this statute, a person is guilty of the crime if he or she causes the death of another person and:
  1. Does so with a premeditated intent to cause that death,
  2. Does so while engaging in conduct that shows an extreme indifference to human life, or
  3. Does so while committing the crime of robbery, rape, burglary, arson, or kidnapping.
Note that “premeditated intent” means that a defendant formed the intent to kill the victim for a period of time, however short, before the actual killing.

Murder in the first degree is a class A felony under Washington law. The maximum penalty for the crime is life in prison and a $50,000 fine. The standard range sentence for the offense is 20 (240 mos) to 30 years (320 mos) in prison.

A Tacoma man pleaded guilty Monday and was sentenced for murdering his pregnant ex-girlfriend in 2020 and dumping her body off a hillside in University Place. Colin Patrick Dudley, 40, was sentenced in Pierce County Superior Court to 26 years, 8 months in prison for first-degree murder in the domestic violence killing of 33-year-old Kassandra Cantrell. That sentence is the high end of the standard sentencing range for similar cases.

Cantrell was missing for nearly a month when a Pierce County Sheriff’s Department’s investigation led detectives to Chambers Creek Road on Sept. 22, 2020. The victim’s body was found in trash bags about 100 yards down a hillside.

Several of the victim’s relatives spoke during the defendant’s sentencing hearing, including her twin brother, Robert Cantrell. KIRO 7 reported that the brother said he felt like Dudley was being allowed to make up his own punishment.

Outside the courtroom, the victim’s mother, Marie Smith, told the television station that she didn’t feel she had closure over her daughter’s murder. “People say that when it gets to this point, you feel closure,” Smith said. “I don’t. Closure would have been her coming home. That’s never going to happen.”

A Pierce County man accused of killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend in 2020 pleaded guilty to murder charges on Monday.

Colin Patrick Dudley waived his right to a trial, pled guilty, and was sentenced to 320 months of imprisonment.

Dudley was arrested in 2020 for the disappearance and death of Kassandra Cantrell, who was his ex-girlfriend. She was also pregnant. Dudley was the father.

Cantrell was found wrapped in trash bags on a hillside in University Place. An autopsy found she was stabbed and suffered skull fractures. Her car, a white Mazda, was found on East 25th Street in Tacoma.

Dudley initially told detectives he hadn’t seen Cantrell in years and didn’t know anything about her disappearance, according to charging documents.

Dudley pled not guilty when he was arrested in September 2020. On Monday, he pled guilty and waived his right to make a statement before sentencing.

320 months was recommended by prosecutors after “months of negotiation,” prosecutors said in court on Monday.

However, family members of Cantrell favored a trial over a plea. Cantrell’s mother, father, and twin brother all spoke in court and asked the judge for a criminal trial.

Robert Cantrell, the twin brother of Kassandra Cantrell, said he and his family still have unanswered questions about Kassandra’s death and “want the the full truth” to be publicized through trial.

Marie, the mother of Kassandra, said she felt like Dudley was “choosing his punishment” and said a trial “is what Kassandra would’ve wanted.”

Solid police work.
Indeed! Seeing the surveillance for the first time (light rail)-- remarkable find. Talk about the right hour (commuting). And recovering KC's phone in the sound was nothing short of a miracle -- IMO, KC was a guiding hand from the beginning. No way did she want her mom, fam & friends to endure her disappearance without answers. MOO

Being a local I went to the omnibus hearing yesterday. His lawyer was a bit disorganized. She said that they are taking a plea deal and that the trial case will be over on the 14th. The case page on linx seems to back that up as a plea hearing is listed for November 14th.

As the court room was listed as "open to the public" online I assume it is ok to share this information early.
Any idea the name of the store her brother opened?

I wasn't aware KC's mom filed a wrongful death suit until watching 48 Hours. The trial is scheduled for Aug 2023 (per 48 Hours) and Dudley will have to take the stand. No reason for him to take the 5th since he's already been convicted criminally. Pray they get some answers from this horrible man.

Tonight's 48 Hours for anyone who is interested.

Kassanndra Cantrell went missing the day before her first ultrasound. Investigators quickly named a person of interest in her disappearance – the man who she said was the father of her baby. Join us on tonight at 9/8c, followed by an all-new “48 Hours” at 10/9c.
