[h=2]Albuquerque group launches effort to break ‘West Mesa Murders’ case[/h]
ALBUQUERQUE – An Albuquerque nonprofit group is launching a campaign aimed at helping police solve the 2009 West Mesa serial killings.

KRQE-TV in Albuquerque, New Mexico, reports Street Safe New Mexico plans to rent four billboards around the city in hopes the ads will lead to a break in the cold case.

The man once in charge of the investigation is now the Albuquerque Police Chief. Thursday, he sat down with KRQE News 13 and named a couple of names.

In February it will be nine years since the first bones were discovered on the West Mesa. Thursday, KRQE News 13 asked Chief Michael Geier about some specific people, and how badly the Albuquerque Police Department wants to be able to say, "case closed."

[...]

Now that he's back with the department, the chief said it's his goal to help solve the case, and bring closure to the families.

"We just want them to know we haven't forgotten them," Geier said. "I think in the back of everyone's mind is if we can win this one, that would be the biggest victory for this city."

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Albuquerque police are investigating bones found on Albuquerque's west mesa.

They were discovered Tuesday, near 118th and Dennis Chavez. Police still have not said if the bones are human remains.

Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller showed up to the scene to be briefed on the situation.

Tuesday's discovery is in the same area where the remains of 11 women were found in 2009. It's still too early to know if there is any connection between Tuesday's discovery and the 2009 case, which remains unsolved.

An empty lot in the Anderson Heights subdivision in far southwest Albuquerque has been the site of a lot of digging over the years.

On Thursday, detectives were methodically sifting dirt there after a construction crew building a park found human remains buried under about a foot of earth Tuesday. Police have said they were looking into whether the discovery could be related to the unsolved West Mesa Murders case.

But a team of archaeologists had also been digging in the park just a few years earlier. They researched a 1,000-year-old food-storage pit, a campsite and pottery fragments found there in 2015.

Matt Schmader, an archeologist on the dig, said it’s possible the remains found Tuesday are historical.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - In November 2008, a woman was found murdered in a rural Wisconsin town and now investigators say new forensic evidence ties her to Albuquerque.

"They believe the person that they have back in Wisconsin, the unidentified person, has ties to the Albuquerque area," said Officer Simon Drobik with the Albuquerque Police Department.

A young woman, estimated to be aged 15-21, was found in a shallow creek in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin in November 2008. Investigators say it was obvious she had been dead for months.

The decomposed body didn't give them much to work with, but investigators do say she was murdered.

Some concerned about additions, omissions at West Mesa Memorial Park (with clip)

Apr 26, 2019

"ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - A park meant to honor the victims of the West Mesa murders has some people upset about what the park includes and what it leaves out.

"If we don't even say what happened to these women, why even have the park?" said Christine Barber with Street Safe New Mexico, a non-profit who works to help women involved in prostitution or living on the street.

The city broke ground last summer on a park being built over the burial site of 11 women and an unborn baby, all victims of the West Mesa Serial Killer...."
