Why the name "West Mesa Bone Collector"?

Something that I don't understand...

How did our killer get the name "Bone Collector"? It's not like he was collecting bones. He was just burying a bunch of bodies in one place.

It was a woman who was walking her dog that found a human bone, turned it into the cops, which lead to the discovery of 11 women and a fetus. The murders were between 2001- 2005 and not discovered until 2009 so pretty much all that was left was bones.

But the killer wasn't collecting anything per se. I mean, I suppose he was "collecting" them in a pit, but that was more like "dumping" than "collecting".
