WI - Ethan Hauschultz, 7, beaten and buried in "coffin of snow", Manitowoc, April 2018 *arrests*

I just found another article from May 2020 that discloses more of the cruelty poor little Ethan endured:

In addition to hypothermia, he had blunt-force injuries to his head and chest and a broken rib. Authorities claim Damian kicked, poked and struck Ethan nearly 100 times.

A Dec. 6 trial was scheduled for Timothy Hauschultz, who allegedly ordered the punishment which led to the death of a 7-year-old boy.

A five-day trial is planned, although the availability of expert witnesses may force a change in the dates.

The court also scheduled another hearing for May 14 on what’s known as a Ludwig issue. At that time, the court will inquire of Hauschultz if he was informed of any prior formal proposed plea agreements offered by the state, and whether the defendant personally rejected them.

Man rejects plea deal in 7-year-old relative's death

May 14, 2021
Timothy Hauschultz, 50, faces eight charges for allegedly ordering the punishment. He has pleaded not guilty.

While trial is scheduled for Dec. 6, Friday’s hearing was to specifically ask the defendant in open court to confirm his denial of a plea offer by the state. Hauschultz faces counts including intentionally contributing the delinquency of a child resulting in death, felony murder, and three child abuse counts.

District Attorney Jacalyn Labre said the state’s offer was for Hauschultz to plead to child neglect causing death, and child neglect causing emotional harm, while the other six counts would be dismissed. The state offered to either argue for an unspecified prison term, or to argue for 14 years in prison and six years on extended supervision.

But Hauschultz said he was not accepting the deals.
[.....]
Hauschultz returns to court July 15. The attorneys are expected to discuss the questions which will be posed to prospective jurors, among other topics.
