I'm very worried about little Germain. Active search is continuing overnight by trained personnel, volunteers are needed for Tuesday morning.

UPDATE: Clinton County Undersheriff Mike Gute explains to 6 News why they have asked civilians to wait until Tuesday morning to assist.

“They [law enforcement and specialized search and rescue teams] prepared themselves for the elements. What it does it means the helicopters with infrared seeking devices on their helicopters to be able to look down and see heat sources. And when there are a lot of people in the woods, it kind of detracts from that. They don’t know who the victim may be… because of Germain [the missing child] being autistic, look inside things don’t just expect him to be walking around. He maybe hidden. He is a climber. He maybe in a tree or something like that. So, we are asking people to check their own property”

PDATE: From the Clinton County Sheriff Department Facebook page:

Missing children with autism, especially those who are severely affected, tend to wander or elope from their environment and often seek bodies of water, such as streams, ponds, lakes, rivers, creeks, storm-water retention/detention basins, and swimming pools. This phenomenon is not entirely understood, but researchers and professionals studying this issue believe some children on the autism spectrum seek the serenity bodies of water offer to relieve their anxiety.

Children with autism may also exhibit other interests or fascinations posing similar dangers, such as going to active roadways/highways, trains, heavy equipment, fire trucks, roadway signs, bright lights, and traffic signals.

Who takes a shower at 2 pm, while babysiting a disabled kid? Also, wasn't that babysitter instructed to keep the entrance door always locked? Hell, even with neurotypical toddler without any disabilities you would keep the door locked, let alone while having a little autistic wanderer under your wing.

Okay, so an autistic kid who wanders outside barefoot and underdressed? Is he hyposensitive both for cold and for touch? Not entirely improbable, but makes me go hmmm a bit.

The child was last seen wearing a blue sweatshirt with dinosaurs, shorts with sharks and no shoes.

Sheriff Dush said the toddler was at home with a babysitter. The babysitter told investigators she went to take a shower and was in the shower less than 10 minutes when the boy disappeared, according to the sheriff.

The child was seen walking north on Bauer Rd. and was seen by multiple people in the area of Avalon and Riverside Dr.

The sheriff said law enforcement from multiple agencies, including dive teams and the state police helicopter are helping in the search. They are using drones and thermal imaging cameras to search for the child.

Sheriff Dush is asking for all locals in the area to check all buildings, hunting blinds and property for any sign of the child.

Based on photos shared with authorities, Dush said the child is believed to have gotten “at least a half mile” from his home, according to the Lansing State Journal.

The search is currently focused on the Looking Glass River, Dush said Tuesday, per the Journal.

Michigan’s Emergency Management & Homeland Security Department has joined both the CCSO and MSP as the search for the boy approaches its second day.

This is the news we were all dreading. :(

CLINTON COUNTY, Mich. — The body of a missing 2-year-old boy was found by police Tuesday.

The Clinton County Sheriff's Office says they will be sharing more information during a press conference scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

ANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Clinton County Sheriff Sean Dush has confirmed that missing 2-year-old Jermain Jones’ body was found by a dive team in the Looking Glass River.

Sheriff Dush said teams spent the day checking and double-checking buildings, wooded areas, and nearby rivers for any signs of the missing child and had called in law enforcement from all across the state. They found the body at around 4:00 p.m.

The toddler, Jermain Jones, was just 2 years old.

Now we know his name -- Jermain Jones -- age 2.

Prayers for his family who thought he was safe with his baby sitter.

It is extremely upsetting to read in this article that he went into the water near where a neighbor had seen him walking. Why, why, why would the neighbor not have stopped him and either returned him to his home or called the police. There were two neighbors who saw him in two different locations.

The child was found in a part of the river near where the boy was seen by a neighbor Monday, authorities say.

**********
“One of the people saw the child in the yard, north of his home, probably a quarter of a mile of his home,” Dush says. “And another one came forward and saw the child just north east of there.”

**********
The child’s mother was escorted, while in tears, to a waiting ambulance following the delivery of the news of her child’s death. While foul play is not suspect, Dush says the medical examiner would conduct an autopsy.

In the media briefing, the sheriff (or deputy, not sure which) said that he was seen by witnesses walking north of the residence. I'm wondering who would see a small child walking alone and not stop him and make sure that he got home safely.
Moo..because people might/will assume you are abducting child

Maybe so, but IMO that's a risk that has to be taken.

I have seen a 2 year old walking alone twice, both were a long time ago.

One was a little girl walking alone on a sidewalk in a retail area. I took her into the nearest shop, and the shop owner and customers all recognized her. They said that they knew of two other times she had wandered from home. They told me where she lived, 2 blocks from there; she willingly took my hand and I walked her home. Her mother didn't know she was missing, said she was working from home and her older children were supposed to be watching the little one.

The other time was scarier. I was walking with a friend, and to our horror we saw a little boy (in a tiger Halloween costume) start to cross a busy 4-lane street. We both ran into the street, and my friend grabbed him while I held up my hands to stop traffic. He was fighting us, hitting and kicking. A man and woman who were walking down the street (sidewalk) stopped to talk. The little boy fought the woman off, but he held up his arms to the man, who picked him up. They said they had passed by a Halloween party at a church, so we all walked down the street to the church and two children came running up to us, saying he was their brother. I asked if their parents were there, and they led me to their mother. I told her where we had found him and the danger he had been in, and she didn't seem the least bit alarmed. I'll always remember her exact words, spoken in a lazy, nonchalant voice, "It's a good thing you found him. It would have been one dead baby." I thought it was very telling that the little boy seemed to be afraid of women, but he snuggled up to the man.

Sorry for the off-topic rant. It just upsets me when people don't take the risk of getting involved when a child is in danger.
