I googled "turkey cartels" and came up with the Istanbul Mafia.

(Yes, it's all starting to make sense now!)

There goes my first mouthful of coffee ! :D

I'm sorry but cartel members don't work at turkey factories. They may hang around casinos but that's by what the conversation was about.

What is all this about anyhow? Is there a big drug cartel business in Barron Wisconsin?

This is really fantastical stuff and none of it is based in any reality I'm aware of. Can someone cite to the presence of drug cartel gangs in or around Barron WI?

Yes, we've had personal experience with this. Our son died 8 years ago and we are still dealing with the financial repercussions: funeral expenses, final medical expenses, etc. It took everything we had at the time and then some. I know lots of middle class families who have been hit hard by unexpected charges and many are only an expected event away from finding themselves in a hole. Lots of people live paycheck to paycheck. The Closses seem like an ordinary working family (from what little we know of them anyway).

My gut says that this crime was not financially motivated at all.
I am so sorry. I lost my son 8 years ago as well and was in the same position.

If meth is a big problem in the county... why haven't we heard of any of the labs getting raided? How many cooks have been picked up? What about the bosses? Community appears to be quiet on this issue...

I’m trying to figure out why LE is so quiet right now. If they have zero credible leads, our consensus seems to be that they need to release something to the media to keep this case at the very least, warm.

It’s feeling cold and I personally feel disappointed and saddened.

On the flip side, it could be so quiet because they are following strong leads that need to be kept quiet.

Why aren’t they using their social media to encourage more tips, post more vehicle information to call in... etc?

Praying for Jayme this morning !

I'm heading in for surgery this morning (don't waste thread space commenting, please ), so I'll be MIA for a while. If we get a major break in the case, could someone please pm me ? TIA.

The fact that they ARE being somewhat quiet about this actually makes me a little hopeful. They're usually a lot more vocal when they don't have anything to go on and need the public's help.

Eh, or maybe I'm just trying to be optimistic. :-)

I feel as you do. At this point I might worry if police began giving info after being so tight lipped.

Because it's a countrified area, where there is lots and lots of woods and plenty of places to hide those meth labs? Small towns don't have the amount of LE that bigger towns and cities do.

Most of the meth in the US is not cooked in labs locally as much anymore. With the crack down on everything used to make it the production wasn't as good. Now it is being brought in from Mexico and other countries. There are distribution rings here, however, as with any drug.

This is from Barron Sheriff about the problem specifically in that area. Note that the faces of meth are no longer a thing either, easier for people to go undetected because they are injecting. I have a friend who was injecting for over a year and I had no idea. She lost a bit of weight but I assumed it was from the stress going on within her family. She hid it very well.

It takes forever to get subpoenas to get phone info

Actually subpoenas are issued pretty fast.

The cell provider and the lab that interprets the data so it’s understandable is the issue. Tech has advanced quickly but becomes slow when we need that info.

It’s not often that a judge will reject the reasons behind a subpoena.

I'm sorry, can someone just run down again how exactly the Closs's address is incorrect on google maps? i looked through the maps/media thread and didn't see anything, but i definitely could've just missed it. if you put in their address it takes you somewhere else? i just tried with my own home address (apparently i'm only about an hour away from Barron) and it appeared to give me directions directly to their house....

I searched google maps sndvwhen I entered their address in the street view, it came up as 1271 _________, Barron, WI. a quick look aroundvand found the house. It had been painted since Google visited.

So I assume you have their address, correct? The road name goes by two different names. USH-8 brings up the correct house. 13 1/2 Ave. brings up the wrong house. It defaults to a different address.

How much experience do you have with gang type activity in rural areas? You might be surprised.

I have heard about some crazy stuff found stashed in the woods that people were making makeshift meth labs out of. It wasn't even on their own property. This stuff doesn't tend to make the national news so if you aren't living in or near an area where this happens you may be unaware. It is almost like the modern day moonshiners hiding a still.

Wait... I have never actually looked up to see who lives at the wrong house that comes up on google maps. That is the neighbors home. The ones who supposedly heard the gun shots. Is that why we are going down this road? I've been away for a bit...

Yeah. I’m definitely not a fan of any “gang” theory here.

These people were low risk victims, with no known ties to gang activity.

I’ve lived in a couple cities with major drug and gang problems, and I’ve never heard of anything like this.

Gang activity in rural areas and small towns isn't exactly characterized the same as in large cities. You can't use the same "eye" test. I have realized through reading this thread just how many are unaware that these activities exist in some small towns. Up and down the MS river it is particularly a problem. If you are familiar with the Jessica Chambers case, sorting through all the suspects will help you understand what I mean.

I am not saying I am convinced that this activity plays a role in Jayme's case, but I see so many people treating it as a ridiculous idea and it is not as ridiculous as you might think. Local LE will be aware if it is an issue, most likely.

This has never seemed like an amateurish action to me. Quite professional the way they went in and out of there, and then disappeared without a trace. Something very "pointed" and personal about this murder/abduction.
