This was my gut reaction the first day to hearing about Jayme on the news. As time goes by, it seems to be less likely as the FBI and other agencies were called in so early to the case and would have something by now. Even as tightly as they are controlling the information they wouldn't be able to keep something like this a secret.

I am very impressed by the Sheriff's handling of this case considering he has very little experience with an investigation of this magnitude. Many small town cases have been blundered in the beginning stages never to be solved due to being in over their heads.

I am now hoping physical evidence will be picked up from the home and give them something to go on. Based on the wording of recent press releases, I don't feel they are close to breakthrough, but I would be very happy to be wrong about that.

LE did everything right. Including , calling Missing and Exploiting Children and the early activation of a "Team ADam." This is what prompted the early Amber Alert without witnessed abduction. "Our Team Adam, retired law-enforcement officials and experts in missing child cases, are dispatched to help law enforcement with the most serious cases. " Team Adam includes retired FBI officals, as well.

So was James Closs still alive (but wounded) when police showed up (see below in bold type)? And why did the officers initially believe he had shot himself/suicide attempt.

“1:03 a.m.

From the Closs home, officers first advised dispatch of a possible suicide attempt. The call was entered into the logs as such, and officers requested EMTs.

At 1:05 a.m., officers on scene relayed the first details from the scene within five minutes of arrival. They did not yet appear to know that Denise Closs had been fatally shot.

“325 ADVISED ONE MALE DOWN, MULTIPLE ROUNDS SPENT. REQUESTED THAT ADMIN BE NOTIFIED.”

1:06 a.m.

“...ADVISED THE DOOR HAS BEEN KICKED IN. ADVISED THAT THE MALE WHO IS DOWN HAD ANSWERED THE DOOR. UNKNOWN IF ANYONE IS MISSING.”

No, he was deceased when LE arrived. The sheriff had made that very clear.

Many posts ago somebody wrote that ME was going through the 911 call to make out conversations, voices, etc. Has anybody found out anything about that.
Also reading over in Radar the Sheriff stated he would give daily updates. Is that happening? TIA

I’m assuming D’s phone went missing with the perps, or otherwise has fingerprints on it. That would be incredible. And incredibly lucky...

The Sheriff has said they have possession of the phone that made the 911 call. So, there is always the chance they can obtain useful evidence from it.

The FBI in Eau Clair was working on cleaning up the 911 call.

I think I started the casino thing when I said dad might have owed a gambling debt. It was all moo. Thought maybe it was loan sharks. Watch too many movies. Sorry if I threw others off with that suggestion.

The break was maybe three inches from the frame. And the door was clearly at least two solid inches thick. Maybe it was weakened by dry rot or carpenter ants. But it is clearly a thick sold core door.

One site (radar online I believe) mentioned that the mother was killed in the bathroom where she barricades herself. Assuming she had her phone with her (ie Jayme wasn’t the one who called 911), possible that when he mother was shot, a round hit her cell phone. Making assumptions but it’s a possibility b/c, yes, how did the call end otherwise.

Kick in the door where the locks are located. Can use a foot or a heavy object. It’s totally possible to do.

It’s pretty remarkable, isn’t it? Came in shooting. Killed two people using possibly only two shots. Gone within a short window of time, with Jayme and without much of a trace. This person knew exactly what they were doing.

NOt a short time, at all. 2 shots , two people dead at 12:31. 911 call at 12:56. That is alot of time between events. I am leaning toward home invasion gone wrong. Waiting on #facts.

I agree, they might have run out of time. I just hope LE calling the number back did not alert them to a location if someone was hiding. If the perps saw the phone with calls/outgoing they knew their time was closing in. Just curious, when police responded did they have dash cam video? Could they have passed the perps car?

Yes, that's why I was inquiring as to whether all the posts of a possible gambling debt or that the casino is involved are in response to facts and evidence or purely speculation.

I just can't get the similarities between this case and the unsolved Michael, Mary, and Jennifer Short case from 2002 out of my mind. Caucasian couple in their late 30s (her)/early 50s (him) living in a slightly-off-the-road home on a primary state/community highway gets invaded/shot in the head and killed at their home in the overnight hours, and their 9 year old daughter is taken and weeks later found murdered a few hours away. Other than it being in Virginia, the MO and pretty much all other details are a perfect match.

Is it possible that these are related and the Short killer moved to Wisconsin or is an over-the-road trucker?

Also described as a shy quiet close family with a shy quiet daughter....
