Deceased/Not Found Woman jumps from Carnival cruise ship - 2/17/22

I watched the video and she seemed very high, delusional and agitated. Maybe mental illness? Maybe drinking or drugs? She was also very thin, very hyper.

I was wondering if she took along some recreational drugs for her trip and she had a bad reaction.

saw this on some cruise youtube channels from people onboard, guests were really upset at what they had witnessed

poor women what s horrible way to go

She had thrown a water bottle at another passenger in the hot tub prior to security intervening. I would put it more towards drinking (though they try to limit the number of beverages per day). She was escorted off the deck to her room and that is where things went south.

The thing that gets me the most is the fact that with the 2010(?) Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act sets the standard for safety at sea. In the act they want vessels to install the automated Man Overboard system:

"The system features a patented configuration of sensors that reliably detect a fall and notify crew when a man overboard event occurs. Using a combination of multi-sensor data and MARSS proprietary software, MOBtronic provides alerts, live tracking and video playback via an intuitive user interface to aid crew in managing SAR operations and to analyse a MOB incident." Automatic Man Overboard System to Be Installed on Mystery Cruise Ship

The system according to Maritime Lawyer Jim Walker cost is about $150,000 per ship. The thing is most cruise lines refuse to install this system.

"Most cruise lines and their trade organizations, the Cruise Line International Organizations (CLIA), have unreasonably resisted the move toward this life-saving technology, citing a myriad of excuses (alleging the cost and unreliability of the technology) which are belied by the success of the systems which are available on the market today."

"MOBtronic is unique with its exceptionally low false positive rate (less than 1 per day) often caused by birds, breaking waves and other objects, significantly reduces false alarms and ensures a >95% detection rate"

One of the only lines that does have the technology is DISNEY CRUISE LINE. Passenger Overboard From the Carnival Miracle

Just to add it has also been reported that crew members had to restrain multiple people from jumping in after she went over. Which I think is wild. I get the want to help, but also I am not jumping off a 10 story building/ship knowing that at that height I will not survive the hit to the water if not proper and the possibility of wind and hitting the ship...

Maybe there was a lot of alcohol consumption on that deck. I can't think of any other reason to explain why people would try to jump 10 stories to help a passenger who jumped.

One more reason why I won't be taking a cruise anytime soon. In the video of the altercation with the woman passenger and the crowd response, it appears those cruise lines pack everyone in like sardines. I'm assuming in most attractions you visit on those cruise ships, you're elbow to elbow with other passengers.

Jurisdiction over cruise ships can get very complicated in my experience.

Right now after COVID most cruises aren't full they are running at 60-80% capacity. It also depends on the deck and location. She was on the main pool deck during a day at sea. So everyone was enjoying the pool.

I'm guessing you've never been on a cruise lol. They have all you can drink packages. For many people, this is what cruising is all about.

No, I haven't been on one of the overnight ones and probably won't. Have been on a lot of lake, harbor and river cruises and have seen a lot of partying. Fortunately never saw fights break out, nor anyone going overboard.

I know my comment may have sounded snarky but totally didn't mean it that way! You have no idea the horror stories I've heard. I know a couple that used to work on a ship and a LOT shady stuff happens on cruises. Many assaults, thefts, etc

No problem, no offense taken at all. I've heard a lot of these same horror stories. There have been more than a few murder cases followed here on WS where investigations went nowhere and justice was difficult to come by.

It sounds like a lot of the cruise lines don't do much by way of background checks for workers and the main motivation for owners is to cover things up and avoid negative publicity as much as possible.

Maybe her family members?

Maybe her family members?
If you mean the people they wanted to restrain. No it was other cruise goers that saw her and wanted to go after her. Just other passengers.
