This is Scott Hattis. He is missing from Huntington and was last seen leaving work at the 6th Ave. Sheetz on Wednesday 5/11/22 wearing his Sheetz uniform, a bright green drawstring bag and riding a black bicycle.

He is autistic and had been staying at the city mission. He’s been without his medication and all of his belongings are still at the mission. If you see him, please contact law enforcement by calling the non-emergency line at 304-526-8444.

The city mission executive director tells WSAZ the mission staff that worked closely with Hattis are extremely concerned. They say it’s very much out of character for him to disappear like this, and he’s the kind of guy who’d tell someone even if he was just going across the street.

As of right now we have not heard he has been found…the Huntington Police Department are working the original case…we’re trying to help them out by getting the info out there…we will update as soon as we know something

Here's a map of where he went missing and where he stayed. I am extremely concerned about the Ohio River being so close and him having autism. I hope he is found soon.Screen Shot 2022-06-05 at 1.39.34 AM.png

If he was not mentally disabled (low IQ) or suicidal, the river proximity should not be any concern here. I'd love to know what meds is he taking, anti anxiety ones? Had he some physical ilnessess?

Because of his Autism I think it could possible be a concern. Those on the Spectrum are at greater risk of drowning (up to 10x more likely). I dont think we can take it off the table just yet.

Those on the spectrum that are at greater risk of drowning are little children and people with intellectual disability. The sounds and light effect of water are great visual and auditory stimuli, that's why we, autistic people, like to be near the water. People with intellectual disability and little kids lack the sense of danger though (it takes longer time to develop in autistic people), so they can easily drown. Autistic adults without intellectual disability know perfectly well that water can be dangerous. So, if Scott is in the intellectual norm and not suicidal, the river is not a concern here.

I'm also autistic and agree 100% with what Hexe said. The VAST majority of accidental drownings among autistic people happen to young children or intellectually disabled adults. A non-intellectually-disabled autistic adult (who can swim) is at no greater risk of drowning than a non-autistic person. I have no idea how Scott's autism effects him or if he also has ID, but I feel like if he did that would be mentioned.

Where's Scott? We're quickly heading into the second month he's been missing. Is anyone out there searching for him? I've not seen any updates or articles calling for volunteer searchers. :(
This case makes me so sad. We have a man living with autism and homelessness who was still working hard to make his life better. I worry that someone took advantage of his trust and he hasn't been found yet.

He was missing out of Michigan a few years ago. I'm guessing this is where he ended up after he walked away from where he was living there. I hope he is found safe.

Really? Does this statistic include Level 1 autistics?
