Yes, I get all of this - but why not just come straight out with it and issue an arrest warrant for murder? I get that this maybe some sort of 'strategy' - but either they have the evidence that points to B as the killer, or they don't. And seeing as B is still a POI and the only arrest warrant is for fraud, I am guessing they are missing a piece of the jigsaw.

I am sure some savvy defence attorney would come up with a way to play this manhunt for fraud charges as prejudicial in any forthcoming murder trial. Or is that not a thing in the US?

IMO, it is not a strategy, but rather considerations of constitutional restraints. MOO, there are potential speedy trial issues. Usually a trial must commence within 70 days of indictment (if a plea entered) (18 U.S. Code § 3161(c)(1)). But there’s a tolling provision that (IMOO) would apply to stop the running of that clock (18 U.S. Code § 3161(h)(3) (A) and (B)):

[“The following periods of delay shall be excluded in computing the time within which … the trial of any such offense must commence:

… a defendant or an essential witness shall be considered absent when his whereabouts are unknown and, in addition, he is attempting to avoid apprehension or prosecution or his whereabouts cannot be determined by due diligence. For purposes of such subparagraph, a defendant or an essential witness shall be considered unavailable whenever his whereabouts are known but his presence for trial cannot be obtained by due diligence or he resists appearing at or being returned for trial.’]

So, IMOO, if they have the COD and necessary evidence they “could” file an indictment under seal and always do a superseding indictment later. But, IMO, for right now, it’s not necessary – yet because (i) LE is still doing its “due diligence” to locate him and obtain his whereabouts; and (ii) the government now has a returned indictment for a separate federal crime, and that is enough to hold him. If and when he’s found any indictment will be immediately unsealed and/or filed (MOO), he will likely be detained awaiting trial, and his trial should be moved up as priority. (see 18 U.S. Code § 3164(a)) MOO, JMO. (Opinions my own, this is not legal advice).

My guess would be because it would mean that Gabby couldn't use the that phone, her phone, for her 'little vlog'... a subtle yet efficient way of impinging on her time and resources , and a real payoff in the annoyance stakes.. he could frustrate her, and at the same time, claim he was on urgent business...

Not saying it couldn't be done, but that the lawyer wouldn't do it. When they went to Orlando, the FBI was literally with them the entire time. It would be insane for the lawyer to obstruct justice with the FBI standing right outside his door and knowing perfectly well that he was meeting with the Laundries. It's one thing to have a sketchy privileged convo with your clients (which would still be very bad and unlikely, imo), and quite another to start doing sketchy RE transactions for them to assist in harboring a fugitive. That would make him completely insane, imo. And I don't think he's that. Could be wrong. jmo.

You would think so, since Gabby's parents said they tried calling and texting him. Which implies he has a working number separate to Gabby's.

When he takes it out of his pocket at the Moab stop, he turns it on and shows the officers his contact number. Would he have done that if - a) It was dead, b) not able to be called or texted?

Also Gabby reminds him to take his phone charger to the hotel.

A thought I've had is if he stopped to visit her before he went to his parents, could he have left things there that might be beneficial to law enforcement's investigation.

I wonder if they got a search warrant for her home?

(If it's true that he stopped in on the 1st).

I know I'm behind on the threads again, however the parent's attorney made it clear that Brian saw her at her home on the 1st and then he saw her on the 6th. Seeing that we expect him to be telling the truth, we accept his statement.

It crossed my mind, and it's been at least 20 years since I visited Orlando Disney, (( I wondered if it looks a bit like Chernobyl now )... that it would be the perfect place for Brian to hide out in, coming out at night, 'hiking' thru the 'jungle'. .. being both scared and emboldened by papier mache hippo's rising regularly out of the 'river'.... sleeping thru the day in a tree, perhaps raiding the concession stands...

Per Florida Statute 777.03, a person commits a felony offense when they assist an individual to evade detection, arrest, trial or punishment after the fact. Relatives of the offender, however, are largely protected from being accessories. This would include the parents of Brian Laundrie, who now has a federal warrant out for his arrest for allegedly committing bank card fraud.

However, attorney Cory Baird told WESH-TV that while the parents are protected from any charges stemming from how they may have helped their son, "if they made misleading statements or lied to officers, obviously that’s a crime in Florida, and they’re not protected from that."

I wonder if this applies to the FBI though? Wouldn’t that be federal, as opposed to state laws?

He got a tremendous payoff, I reckon.. Being seen as the appendage of a beautiful young woman, no one else is ever going to look at him the way Gabby did. His status was raised from a flatfooted swivel eyed ning nong to a Brad Pittish character, in his own eyes and probably others.. ( and we saw a glimpse of this at the Moab stop, we he gained so much credibility for being chosen by this gorgeous girl, yet had the gooleys to exert control and discipline over her.. every mans dream, some would say ) ...

BBM- This is something I've been incredibly curious about because we simply don't know what ultimately led LE to her body. It came out at a time when they stated they now had phone location data. It would be truly amazing if the YouTubers did in fact fully lead to her discovery and I can't wait to find out how big/small of a role that video was.

Her body was located by aerial surveillance. I'm sure they knew the general area, but the YouTubers more than likely gave them the specific area making it easier for them. I don't know how long they were searching before they got the leads, but these tips had to have been just what they needed.

Cause? Perhaps. But it's also possible that there are multiple injuries (horrific, I know). Let's say Gabby was severely beaten, then smashed with a rock, and didn't die, but someone got a weapon and finished her off (or maybe she was already dead when they shot/stabbed her?) All of that takes reports from a pathologist. Pathologists are in short supply and results, even if fast-tracked by the feds can take a couple of months. But...what if there's some toxic substance in her body? what if someone gave her a drug? ALL of that has to be in the final report, and nothing makes a defense attorney. happier than a Coroner's report that's in error.

Which rarely, rarely happens. The next version will probably be for LE eyes only and for investigative purposes only, while they pull in new resources to study the body's pathology even further.

Forensic Entomologists need to be called in (there are only a handful of them). Perhaps specialists in the local biome (I would call them in at this point, if I were in charge - little things can be important).

It's possible the final result will say that there is more than one fatal injury, all of it homicidal.

From what I am reading, it seems that in Wyoming a grand jury meets every two months.
I don't think they rush and put a Grand Jury together every time they produce an indictment. It is more like a Grand Jury considers a bunch of different indictments every time they meet. imo

For all we know, the feds might not even have a murder/manslaughter indictment together yet ... if they are still gathering evidence and/or waiting for finalised autopsy reports.



The District of Wyoming convenes a federal grand jury every two months to consider criminal charges contained in proposed indictments for cases that have been investigated by local, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement. The grand jury may also investigate possible criminal activity through testimony of witnesses and obtaining records. The grand jury is comprised of 23 citizens from all over Wyoming who serve for a term of up to eighteen months.

If the jury finds the charges should proceed against the accused, it returns what is referred to as a “true bill” approving the proposed indictment.

But Brian had more than 2 days to get back home. I'm no doctor, but I don't think someone could feasibly claim that they were in a constant flight or fight adrenaline response for that long. IMO, he had plenty of time to review his actions, change his course, contact the authorities, make better decisions which did not involve deceit or concealment etc. Or, you know, federal bank fraud.

Once he decided to drive van home, adrenaline could have kicked in. He finally had a plan, instead of aimless wandering around.

Grand Teton to North Port, FL, is about 34 hours, per Google maps. Which assumes traveling at the speed limit.

In my mid-40s I stayed up for 3 days straight more than once (on purpose; no homicide in my mental rear-view mirror; not driving, but active). My parents, in their 70s, would drive the 24 hours from their home to mine in a day & a half, for no readon other than just to get here.

Looking at my personal, anecdotal sampling, I can't imagine it impossible that a very young, very healthy man who just took his dead girlfriend's van to head home to mom & dad couldn't make that trip alone in the August 29/30 - August 31 - Sept 1 time period.

Iirc, reports suggested he arrived late morning on the 1st. Even starting midday on the 30th, that's, say 46 hours. 46 hours to drive 34 is just not that big a deal.

I have shared cars with various members of my family, at various times ( once with a daughter, instead of two average cars , we bought one unaverage one, it worked out ok ) .. I had my own set of keys, it was essential , I cannot understand how they managed that trip with only one set of car keys. Ive had a set keys to every car that ever lived in my garage...

Even for Brian's convenience, two sets would be required... unless it had a deeper significance to him and he was prepared to put up with the inconvenience with the payoff being the power he could wield.. .

But it was working. On the cam you can see him turn it on and show the officer his phone number. Low on battery maybe, but not dead. That is different than saying "I don't have a phone."

I definitely do NOT think he’s innocent nor am I defending him I just think that some individuals ideas of what make him a sociopath or psychopath are incorrect. For example I too don’t particularly like humans and prefer nature. I am far too sensitive and compassionate for most people in this world. I cannot relate I see most people as being selfish and non compassionate unless it effects them. So I avoid people. I don’t really have many friends either I don’t talk on the phone I don’t text. I do think plastic is bad for our environment and need to start taking care of our planet.
My point is im definitely not gonna go kill anyone in fact I became increasingly more the way I am because I have had a lot of trauma in my life.
