"These problems are worsened with severe staffing shortages, excessive overtime and social workers assigned unmanagebly high case loads and workers placed in increasingly dangerous situations," Republican State Rep. Travis Coulture said.

According to Coulture, the legislature needs to make it easier to remove children from homes where there's an active opioid or methamphetamine using parent. He's also proposing legislation that would make assault of a social worker a felony, the same protection provided to state ferry workers.

A former Connecticut postmaster could face 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to defrauding the U.S. Postal Service of $875,000 through bribery and embezzlement schemes.

Ephrem D. Nguyen, a postmaster for a postal office in Danbury, Connecticut pleaded guilty on Oct. 13 to multiple schemes involving using USPS credit cards to pay a vendor about at least $760,000 more than necessary for maintenance and repair work, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Additionally, he said he embezzled over $80,000 with credit cards to rent vehicles for personal use and approved fraudulent travel expense reimbursement claims exceeding $8,000 for a co-worker.

It was about 5 a.m. on a Saturday morning when Amanda Tanner and her husband were suddenly jolted out of sleep by their dog.

Axel, a 1-year-old border collie the family had rescued, jumped on their bed and seemed adamant they get up. When the groggy couple was slow to respond, the dog was persistent in trying to get their attention.

NEW YORK -- A man spent more than nine hours trapped inside a bank vault overnight in Midtown, Manhattan.

The vault finally opened on an automatic timer at around 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, setting him free.

The customer was accessing his safety deposit box in the basement of the World Diamond Tower at 580 Fifth Ave., when the doors closed and he became trapped at around 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

PLANO, Texas (WFAA) – Nature lovers are mourning the loss of the oldest and largest tree in North Texas.

The tree in Plano, Texas was estimated to be older than the United States.

A drone flight carried out a month ago shows the largest and oldest tree towering majestically over Plano’s Bob Woodruff Park.

The bur oak was estimated to be 400 years old.
