“They videoed his death instead of helping him,” said Nassau County Homicide Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick.

Police say some of the final moments of 16-year-old Khaseen Morris’ life were recorded on cell phones and streamed on social media.

“Kids stood here and didn’t help Khaseen. They would rather video this event,” Fitzpatrick said.

Police say dozens of people watched an unarmed Morris get stabbed earlier this week outside of a strip mall in Nassau County, New York and did nothing to help.

“There’s gotta be about 50, 60, 70 kids here. We have a handful of kids that have come forward that have identified subjects involved in this. There is definitely more, the detective said.

“It’s over a common girl and the perception of who she might be dating or who she might be hanging with,” he said.

Homicide detectives are now urging and warning witnesses to come forward.

“You need to get out in front of this. After I put handcuffs on you is not going to be the time to be helpful for you,” Fitzpatrick said.

Nassau County put out a statement on the stabbing, saying:

“If you see someone in serious danger, please use your phone to get help – not likes and shares.”

“You guys took my brother away from me and my family,” said the victim’s sister Keyanna Morris.

Tyler Flach, an aspiring rapper who went by the name “BabyTy” and who recorded a music video, is accused in the stabbing death of Khaseen Morris, a 16-year-old boy from Oceanside, New York, who was murdered in a brawl outside a strip mall. Bystanders watching the murder unfold filmed it on video they posted to social media instead of helping Khaseen.

In a press conference before Flach’s arrest, Nassau County Police Department Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick said that police were poring through videos, including one posted via Snapchat, to try to identify the person who stabbed Morris, a 16-year-old boy from Long Island. He expressed frustration and outrage over other teens’ decision to videotape what was happening rather than trying to intervene to stop it or to help the stabbed teenager as he lay bleeding on a sidewalk.

Authorities say 18-year-old Tyler Flach of Lido Beach has now been charged with second degree murder for the death of Khaseen Morris.

Disturbing video captured the deadly brawl outside a pizzeria in Oceanside Monday afternoon that led to the 16-year-old’s murder.

Police said Khaseen was threatened he better be there, then set upon by six or seven teens from another school district. He was stabbed once in the chest and later died.

Detectives had a warning for witnesses that have not yet come forward.

“If you are not a part and parcel of murder of Khaseen Morris, now is the time to get in touch with us and let us know who did this and why,” Nassau County Police Det. Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick said.

Flach is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

Morris' family is now planning his funeral. His sister, Keyanna Morris, said "everyone loved him and he loved everyone."

"He was amazing," Morris said. "The girl wanted him to walk her home and he was like okay. This girl played a game and tried to get her ex-boyfriend jealous and said somebody else walked me home."

"They videoed his death instead of helping him. This can't go on. Your friends are dying while you stand there and video it. That's egregious," Nassau County Police Det. Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick said.

"We are heartbroken by this senseless tragedy," Oceanside Schools Superintendent Dr. Phyllis S. Harrington said. "Tragedies like this have to constantly remind us to be kind and caring people."

Community Wants Onlookers Who Videotaped White Teen Stab Khaseen Morris To Death Charged
“They should charge everyone as an accessory for just standing there and recording this tragedy.”

Sept 21, 2019

"The arrest of Tyler Flach, 18, in the stabbing death of 16-year-old Khaseen Morris is a start for the family. But the community is still “outraged.”

Now, residents are calling for charges to be brought against the onlookers who watched and videotaped the brawl that resulted in the young Black teen’s death, AtlantaBlackStar.com reports....

“We’re also looking at the possibility of other subjects being charged,” Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder told reporters, according to Newsday.

He also added the Nassau Police received seven 911 calls with the first at 3:46 p.m. However, very few in the large crowd of students that watched helped Morris as he lay bleeding on the ground. Instead, they held up their phones to catch every moment of the action for social media posting later. ..."

It would have been harder to arrest someone if it wasn't recorded imo. We can't hold kids responsible for not putting themselves in potential danger by trying to stop it. I don't think all of them calling 911 at the same time would have saved Khaseen. JMO.

It may not have stopped the killing, but at least they would have been decent, civilized human beings. And, no we can't hold them responsible for not helping to stop it, but maybe a higher power can question them about this some day. That is part of the problem with our society, no one wants to get involved - no one sees anything. But they make sure to get their phones out and start recording. I think this kind of behavior is horrendous, and if it was your child, wouldn't you want someone to step in and try to help or call 911. It is not like they were at the theater or playing a video game, this is real life, real people's lives. I find this behavior despicable. This is MOO, and I hope no one is offended by my feelings about this. Katt

Sep 23, 2019

"An attorney for the teen accused of fatally stabbing an Oceanside High School student appeared in court Monday. ...
Prosecutors have until late Tuesday afternoon to get an indictment against Flach or he will be released without having to post bail pending a trial.

Flach's attorney asked prosecutors to turn over all tips given to Crime Stoppers that could indicate another person may have stabbed Khaseen Morris.

Flach remains in protective custody in jail.

His attorney says he received three written death threats after Morris' death.

"OCEANSIDE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — One of the seven teens accused of taking part in an Oceanside brawl that left a 16-year-old high school student dead was due in court Tuesday morning.

Haakim Mechan, 19, appeared in court with his attorney, David Haber, saying he did not know that the brawl would be anything more than a fist fight.

“What it appears is two groups of boys made mutual arrangements to meet for a fight, one person, unbeknownst to anybody else, took it way too far,” said Haber. “My client was not at all involved with the causing of the death of the individual who passed.”...

Flach’s attorney told WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall that there may be other photos from the scene showing another person with a knife, not his client."
