The US government can take advantage of off-chain activities that go on when Bitcoin moves around to infer who the owner of wallets must be, and in some high profile recent cases were able to identify at-risk private keys to seize the account.

If this wallet has existed for some time they may be able to trace it.

Here's why I'm skeptical the ransom note is real:

You've got this sloppy crime, with forced entry and blood.

Then you've got this seemingly well planned ransom demand, with a Bitcoin account already set up.

Those two things don't seem to jibe.

You've also got this delay in making the demand, and zero proof of life.

So either this ransom demand is real and was an afterthought, or it's being made by a different person altogether.

JMO but arguably the things you state about the crime scene were on purpose. Maybe 'sloppy' is just how it looked. They didn't leave any DNA, and they haven't so far been tracked by LE. That's not sloppy at all.

Supposing for a moment that they are the same criminals:

What reason could the kidnappers have to need a time delay before the money was put into the account?

What if the delay is all part of the plan?

I cannot think of a reason, but I also don't know anything about bit coin. Or keeping people hostage.

This is a crazy thought, I realize that. But the perp might be crazy.

What if the deadline is Thursday because he plans to escape somewhere over the weekend, arranging for the body to be found on Monday if he's not paid - long after he's gone away.

There may also be a daughter in law. Not sure. Some of the in-laws may not be in AZ. May be in other states taking care of their kids. Seems like you would want to keep that video tight anyway. Just include NG's children. JMO.
That makes sense.
I was thinking since the sheriff is trying to put the breaks on speculation it would have been the opportunity to have both men there but that is running in a different track...hopefully.
I can't begin to imagine how frightening and traumatic this is for NG's 3 grandchildren, terrible.

I don't know, maybe they wanted the crime scene to be sloppy, or obvious, making it clear it was a robbery gone wrong, or abduction for ransom? The blood spatter on the front porch is confusing to me as it has an area of cast off, or aspirated blood, with drops around it. What could have caused the area of fine spray cast off in that spot? For a gunshot, or blow to cause cast off in that position, the victim would have to be laying on the ground wouldn't they?
I looked briefly at a photo of that. I made the assumption that someone got cut while destroying the Nest cam. Am I completely off in the location of the door cam? JMO

We just ask them. We get to know our members and their families.
We just ask too. We have a church app for news, prayer requests, our directory of addresses/phone numbers (if you chose), etc. If AG had ever attended maybe she offered her number to NG's church friends or people she usually sat with.

I guess what I'm unsuccessfully trying to say - not everyone watches TMZ. Not everyone follows celebrity news, while everyone does know about news stations. But maybe I'm wrong, and I accept that.

I find it significant that the ransom-note writer of a crime in surburban Tucson picked TMZ to send the note but perhaps it's what would be expected. ?

jmo
I agree with you that picking TMZ is telling of... something. At the very least it tells us the perp is someone who is knowledgeable enough with pop culture to know that TMZ is for celebrity "gossip" and that Savannah is a celebrity. The TMZ bit is honestly the only thing that has me leaning obsessed fan of SG. JMO

"We are ready to talk."
I don't know why that statement bothers me.

Exactly. Something like this.

Or something more high level like how long it takes LE to track something or other.

Like, whatever the modern day equivalent of how (in movies) they always 'keep someone on the line' for x amount of time before they are able to track a phonecall.

Cops are reportedly investigating Guthrie superfans who have bombarded the morning TV superstar with gifts and mail before her mom was kidnapped, the Daily Mail reports.

— Ransom notes were delivered to both gossip website TMZ and the local station, KOLD. The kidnappers demanded millions of dollars in Bitcoin.

— Police sources say the notes shared details about damage to Nancy Guthrie’s home, what she was wearing and other details known only to the kidnappers.

A former FBI profiler believes that the kidnapper is a stranger, likely a man in his 30s or 40s.

I do find it curious that Nancy goes missing just 2 months after an episode featuring SG visiting her mom in her home town.

A dismal thought is today is the day he will abandon NG. If he gets the money today, he escapes and reveals NG's location and she could be found alive. If he doesn't get the money, he leaves but doesn't reveal the location until Monday when NG would've succumbed. He's giving himself time for her death but without having to do the act.

I'm trying to make sense of the Thursday-Monday thing.

If it became confirmed to Sheriff Nanos that NG attended church via online then he should have cleared up his original statement that NG didn't "show up" for church services.
That also led to much speculation asking if NG was still able to drive etc.
Speculation is what he said he wants to avoid,

imo

Asking Sheriff Nanos to speak clearly is like asking a sloth to sit up straight.

I am inclined to wonder if this is political, like someone seeking retribution for her daughter's coverage of something awful like the Epstein files or for Nancy's own opinions. The atmosphere is ugly IMO. Teachers and librarians, for goodness sake, are routinely threatened with violence. Stochastic terrorism encourages isolated individuals to act violently. My fear is that something Nancy did or posted online or maybe her connection to her journalist daughter made her a target of an unhinged person. MOO.
That was my immediate thought when I heard this: SG's political views. (I didn't know NG's views matched until a couple days ago when I was looking at her FB page which is full of political posts.)

It doesn't really explain why Craig isn't going because of Nancy?
not wanting to leave his family behind? (since NG's abduction may be because of SG's views/job?). MOO

We don't know they didn't leave DNA, and if they were a stranger that explains not being found by LE. We see this all the time in stranger foul play cases, where the sloppiest crime in the world takes time to solve.

I can't think of any reason why a delay would be necessary. The sooner you get the ball rolling the easier it is to disappear.

A former FBI agent was talking about this last night, and he thought that the "abduction/kidnapping" messaging probably put this in someone's head. The whole "kidnapped in her sleep" thing sent everyone's imaginations racing, and perhaps that of some unscrupulous opportunist.

The amount of resources being dedicated to this is insane, and I think forensic/surveillance/phone data will pay off soon enough.

With the modern proliferation of artificial intelligence tools and deepfake videos, the family of Nancy Guthrie — along with the investigators trying desperately to find her — are on high alert for possible forged messages from whoever took her.

“You could imagine a really ugly scenario where someone could try to create a ransom note or a proof of life video that was AI generated,” CNN chief media analyst Brian Stelter said this morning.

Savannah Guthrie alluded to this in a video message released yesterday to whoever may be holding her mom.
