The profile of a burglar who messed up isn’t consistent with the ransom notes, described repeatedly by Levin as being well structured, detailed, and well written. It also doesn’t fit with the ability to successfully hide digital tracks when submitting those letters to multiple news outlets.
My recent feeling about the perpetrators doesn’t fit with what we know of the ransom notes, either. Yet the writer had knowledge of the crime (watch location, state of rear floodlights). So perhaps the ransom has come from an opportunistic associate, as some people suggested early on.
