In my opinion, the likelihood that anyone outside of groups focused on the disappeared (such as Madres Buscadoras de Sonora) would help search for NG in Mexico is very low. The Sonoran desert is vast, and if there happened to be a cartel connection, the fear of what could happen to average citizens who push back or report is greater than any desire to help.

I wouldn't chalk it up to a lack of humanity, or a dislike of the US, but when you live in a smaller town that is dominated by criminal activity, or that exists in the periphery of it, survival is very much a priority.
I feel so bad for those who live in those situations, such evil in this world

Wouldn't losing her out in the vast desert be even better for them than a landfill?
You would think so!

Less chance of finding her!

And this is going to sound horrific, so my apologies, but also wild animals will eat her remains, and likely scatter/spread the bones too.

Arizona is pure harsh desert/mountain wilderness. To dispose of her in the garbage is cheap and amateur.

But it has happened to other missing people on here, I'm thinking of Heidi Planck who went missing from an apartment block in Los Angeles in 2021. The Chiquita Canyon Landfill site was searched, although nothing was found sadly.

Unfortunately, a landfill would be a perfect dumping ground, because the inherent odors will easily mask...you know.
But cadaver dogs could find her. It would only mask the smell for humans.

I was also thinking that she could also have been kept alive down there easier than here since people are so scared of the crime organizations, plus they would be able to get whatever meds she needed. This was my wishful thinking. The greater the level of organized crime the better.

An 84-year-old woman who was reported missing in Arizona has been identified by officials as the mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced during a news conference on Sunday that Nancy Guthrie was last seen in the Catalina Foothills area on Saturday night at approximately 9:45 p.m.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said a family member reported her missing on Sunday, around noon.

Nanos said search and rescue teams have been out at Nancy Gutherie's home, along with homicide teams and detectives.

Foul play has not been ruled out at this time.

Thanks for this update.

I thought Homicide was brought in from the start? And that it did look like “foul play” from the beginning. Just going on memory at this point, anyone remember this?

Ok, JMO

I certainly had wondered whether Nancy's keys would have been unattanded and accessible by crew during filming.

While searching for bitelights, the top Google result (for me) was Manhattan Wardrobe Supply. And that got me thinking, could this person be familiar with this site? Do wardrobe/hair/makeup people regularly use bitelights? Was disguising makeup purchased?

Am I correct in saying that Nancy was on camera in both the NYC studio and in Tucson?

Yes I’ve seen a couple clips of NG in the NYC NBC studio (in one of the episodes NG surprised SG by showing up on the set). I also saw a clip of SG, NG, and AG in Tucson sitting at a table in a restaurant. I believe that particular show clip was titled ‘Savannah Guthrie visits her hometown’, something to that effect. I believe links to these episodes have been posted here, they are easily findable online as well.

IMHO

No need, there’s a huge unforgiving desert right there. Avoid cameras at the dump.

I thought in previous days, it was discussed on here that the signal detector had to be just a few feet off the ground, and that a helicopter would be too high?
I'm curious about that too. This helicopter is flying about 500' above the ground.

Nice job! That’s why I threw the sole pic in the video, but hadn’t tried to actually match it to the blood pattern. I’d love to see someone try to match it up.
Yep, I got the idea from the shoe sole pic in your video. :)

That said, it’s not too late for LE to collect the door mat. Yes it’s been trampled on, but who knows what else might be found. I don’t think it should be left there at the house. MOO.

Possibly, but it isn't a precise action. Landfills are extremely difficult for search teams because of overwhelming background odors, constantly shifting trash layers, heavy machinery disturbance, heat and moisture that speed decomposition, and massive search areas, but if there is a good idea of where to search, it could be successful.

Consider that:

1. The neighborhood is dark. There are no streetlights. I'm not sure if people have floodlights on motion sensors.
2. There are ~five roads leading into/out of the neighborhood (source: post 35291 on page 1765.)
3. The houses are set back from the road. Cameras mounted on houses may not even pick up the road.
4. Traffic cameras in the neighborhood do not record and retain video. (source: post 25,581 on page 1280.)

So unless the guy either lives or works in the neighborhood, he could easily drive in, abduct NG, and exit without leaving video evidence apart from the camera footage at NG's house.

MOO

I said there were five DIRECTIONS a person could take from the street in front of NG’s house.

North or south on N Camino Miraval

Northeast on N Camino Escalante

Northwest or southeast on E Camino el Ganado

But actually, I’m wrong.

Only FOUR directions, as northwest on E Camino el Ganado turns back northeast into a cul de sac.

Unless perp lives on the cul de sac, but it isn’t a way out to a main road.

I just wanted to clarify what I posted earlier to prevent confusion.

IMO

Edited to change northwest to northeast into a cul de sac.

Totally agree, desert is much more likely. Since desert is huge and unforgiving, it will be very difficult to find her. If that’s where she is, sorry…😢

UPDATE - SNIFFER HELO COMPLETES SEARCH GRID OVER LANDFILL.

My speculation is they didn't get a hit on the pacemaker since they searched over the entire area without stopping and are now heading back to airport.

It'd be pretty wild for it to be someone from NYC. I'd be curious to know whether they flew out a complete NYC crew to Tucson or whether they hired supplemental crew locally.

I know many here believe that this was a planned kidnapping, as does the sheriff apparently, but from a behavioral standpoint, this does not look like a carefully designed and executed kidnapping. The person on camera approached alone, carried a backpack like someone expecting a quick theft, and awkwardly tried to block the doorbell with weeds instead of disabling it properly. He could have just as easily spray painted the camera, as anything else.

That points to an opportunistic, low-level offender, not a coordinated abduction team. There was no ransom note at the scene, no organized extraction, and no visible counter-surveillance. Everything about the approach appears improvised rather than strategic, suggesting someone who expected a fast in-and-out situation.

A professional kidnapper would typically plan in advance, avoid obvious cameras, coordinate transportation, control the scene quickly, and minimize exposure time. They would operate with discipline and precision, not hesitation. It is very possible Nancy was targeted, but not for ransom.

A more plausible explanation is that the offender had some prior familiarity with her, felt comfortable approaching her home, and intended a burglary. When she confronted him, fear of being recognized may have triggered panic. Inexperienced offenders often make impulsive decisions in that moment, focused on immediate self-preservation rather than long-term planning.

That kind of chaotic escalation fits the known behavior far better than a calm, mastermind-style kidnapping.

Of course...MOO
So weird it just so happened to happen on the night she had the dinner at her daughter's. Like how did someone know she wouldn't have stayed the night or gone out of town for a little bday trip? I never believed the ransom or kidnapping and have always figured it was a hurry up "let's do some things to distract" and they only had a few short hours to throw some things together in a panic. If this is the case, wow, they did a really good job(as far as we know) of throwing everyone off. It was just way to close to this bday dinner. I can't shake the feeling that we are going to find out it is someone or a couple someone's known to Nancy. I think too much time has been wasted on this ransom and other distractions that were put in place to confuse the public and investigators. It is likely a case of a couple inexperienced people getting away with it so far but those kind always mess up in the end and will be found out. Guilt will get the best of them and they will royally mess up. I agree 100% with where you are coming from.

Where are dumpsters and trash emptied? Is it there? I haven’t looked.
