The mother should have been charged too. Absurdly neglectful, dysfunctional parents, the both of them.
So a school adminstrator is testifying now that the school sent emails, made phone calls, and sent certified letters in relation to school absences to both parents and no response. Wow.

Edited to add - Sounds like when he finally made himself available to the school there were several meetings/contact between the school and the defendant to discuss setting Colt up for success.

People go to jail for their children’s truancy! Yet Colt missed a full year of school and he didn’t even have to “repeat” the grade.

The school seems ON TOP OF IT though. It's nice to hear how persistent the school was in trying to help Colt. I didn't know they allowed him to pass the grade with so many absences. I edited my post by the way to be fair to the defendant - it sounds like he did meet with the school several times and he asked them to address the sporadic instances of bullying, which the school did.

The evidence is coming in piecemeal and so far we haven't seen anything that rises to the level of these charges. The opening statement was really good and I guess I expected that by this point of the trial the state would've made a lot of inroads into the defendant's culpability. He seemed so cooperative in that bodyworn camera of the first visit with LE asking about threats made by Colt on Discord. Almost TOO cooperative. Typical of abusers. They often tend to be obsequious to authority figures. He was giving too much information without even being asked. It seemed like a subtle misdirection of the main issue.

Defense keeps bringing up the dark web. Not sure what this has to do with the case.

They're done for the day.

Look up and you'll see the live coverage of the trial at the top of the thread

On the day of the shooting, Marcee Gray testified Colin Gray told her he’d received “strange text messages” from their son.

“Reading the text messages, I could tell there was a tone to it,” she testified. “They were short … they weren’t normal Colt texts. You could tell something was not right.”

Colt texted his mother saying, “Acute mania sucks.”

His mother responded: “Acute mania is no joke.”

The texts go on to show Marcee texting her son: “But your dad mentioned that you were talking about acute mania last week. So I’ve been reading more about it since then.”

At 9:50 a.m., Marcee Gray said she spoke with Colt Gray’s guidance counselor, who said her son had just asked his first period teacher about active shooter drills.

“‘We need to cut this phone call off right now and y’all need to go locate my son and find out what’s going on,’” Marcee Gray said she told the counselor. She said she emphasized Colt Gray had access to firearms.

“I couldn’t hear urgency in her voice, and I said, ‘I need you to take this seriously; I need you to put down what you’re doing and go find him,’” Marcee Gray testified.

I was finding Marcee credible all the way until the Google searches in her phone. She searched the Ethan Crumbley parents case!! She said it was because she and Colt had watched some documentary about it and she was curious to know more. Then the prosecutor nails her with, “why were you searching about why the parents were arrested if you had watched a documentary?” She had no good answer.

Then the last question from the state on redirect was whether she was searching those things because her and Colin were worried about their own liability and were discussing it. Marcee says she doesn’t remember. She was vague in this line of questioning in general.

It seemed to me she was protecting Colin and herself. They both knew!!! What a crock of poo! Wow

WOW - Colin Gray's 14-yr-old daughter just blew up the defense with her testimony. She testified that he (Colin) knew about the Nikolas Cruz photos on Colt's wall and knew who Cruz was. He knew Colt was not mentally well, and when word came out about the lockdown/shooting, Colin asked Jenni to downplay what he knew. Jury sent out. Defense is arguing a discovery violation. They appear to be completely caught off guard by this testimony.

I’m a little behind and am listening to Macee Grays testimony. Agree I’m finding her generally credible, I think it helps that she is clear and articulate and seems well considered and caring about her children. However I'm only getting the “good side” just now.

Colin has to be mad at himself for talking so much in the interview. He talked himself right into the wrong alibi. It’s been going on for about two hours on Ctv.

They just opined that he talked excessively because he didn’t think he would be charged. He is so full of bs.

I couldn’t listen to Colin bs’ing yesterday but I’m listening to just the last part now and boy! He was minimizing his knowledge and flat out lying. He tries to deflect many times and the investigator interrupts him and brings him back to focus. He’s now crying as the investigator walks him through what his son did.

I love that the investigator asks him if Jenny lies and he says basically no, nothing big. Investigator follows up and asks him what kind of things has she lied about and he says he can’t think of anything. That’s great for the jury to hear when it comes to Jenny’s credibility at this trial.

This investigator has the right demeanor and approach compared to the GBI agents. I didn’t like how the GBI agents conducted their interview. I know what they said about why they did it that way - so he can cooperate but I still don’t like it. I felt like they were almost flirting with him hours after 4 people were murdered. Ugh.

Well after catching up on today’s blockbuster day for the state I’m convinced that the entire family knew that Colt was gonna shoot up that school any day. They knew it and were not surprised at all when it happened. It’s sickening. This level of detachment and helplessness by these parents is absolutely horrifying. These kind of trials really make me worry for where our society is headed. To be this cavalier about a school shooting is inhumane and depraved. Stopping at the Quikmart to grab a soda while your son is killing children?? I have no words for these people’s behavior. It is inexplicable.

I also think Jenny called her dad and told him about the gun. There’s a phone call from her to her Dad that morning as she’s heading to school. She saw the gun was gone from Colt’s room before she left. She previously filled him in on the fight btwn Marcee and Colt when he was outta the house. She was the parentified child. I know she didn’t testify to telling him. But it’s very odd to me that she wouldn’t have. Could she have been trying to protect him on the stand? He’s still her father.

As soon as the defendant said he would testify I knew exactly what he was gonna do - it’s all Marcee’s fault, she’s the bad parent, she’s to blame for why the kids are messed up etc. He minimized his pain pill addiction saying it wasn’t addiction, it was “fear of the pain returning” from his back surgery.

It also seems selfish to me that he said construction work was drying up leading up to pandemic and he told Marcee to get a job and suggested they move to her recently deceased grandma’s house to live mortgage free. He was making good money in his job and made $9k in August leading up to this shooting. It seems like he put a lot of pressure on Marcee and she buckled. Interestingly, it was during his stay at home dad stint that Colt made the Google search at school about how to kill your dad.

He’s rambling on about irrelevant details. Again, all designed to put the blame on Marcee. As I suspected he’s mad Marcee is not sitting there with him facing these charges.

Cross examining him now. Should be good.

Prosecutors tone in this cross examination is so good. The cross examination has been focused and organized. Colin is trying to wiggle out of every thing. You can see what a liar he is. How manipulative he is. I imagine he gets away with a lot in life by playing these games with those closest to him, including his children. Playing poor me, deflecting, putting blame on Marcee, relentless apathy, etc. What a tedious, infuriating man! I can understand why Colt had anger issues.

So avoidant, detached with his head in the sand. Only HE KNEW, knew but chose to be inert because actually intervening would have taken too much energy. He's so easy to dislike.

I read the school was supposed to have reported the searching for "how to murder my dad" situation to police, but did not do so. But yes, otherwise, it seems the school was active in trying to address Colt's issues. Dad has definitely earned jail time IMO.

And stopping at the Quickmart to me just shows a complete indifference to life itself. Not even enough energy to care bout 3 lives lost. Smh
