Missed this one:
The lesbian lover of Kouri Richins’ mom was found dead and foaming at the mouth in a “suspicious overdose” 20 years before Richins fatally poisoned her husband with fentanyl, according to a report.

Authorities in Richins’ Utah case unearthed that her mother, Lisa Darden, was probed in 2006 for possible involvement in the death of her lover Gertrude Moore – a fact which led them to investigate whether Darden may have helped her daughter, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

She would have been in her mid-teens?

I'm rewatching Josh's testimony. KR booked the trip on 12/7, Josh said as a birthday gift, his birthday being 12/9. The trip wasn't scheduled until April. Was she planning to kill ER back in December?

I just got done watching the 20/20 story on the case. They were biased in favor of Kouri's family- who still thinks she's innocent, Skye Lazaro, and her best friend Ali. Well gee, Ali if you hadn't befriended a sociopath maybe you wouldn't have been put through all of this. I was very impressed with both the boyfriend Josh and the bravery of Carmen doing the right thing. I didn't agree that putting the drug dealers on the stand backfired, nor with Skye Lazaro because clearly the state DID prove their case and it was evident that Kouri had to have put the Fentanyl that she purchased in Eric's drink. And that was no "celebration of life" when they partied in her house the night after he died. It was a bunch of people looking for an excuse to get drunk.

And I learned that she may have poisoned Eric's drink on a trip to Greece. She has a pattern, and Lazaro didn't try to explain Kouri's searches for "luxury prisons". As IF she got a choice...

33 minutes in

One of the houses KR "rehabbed" and sold -- full of MOLD.

I can't let this go.

Did KR find a way to weaponize mold/ fungus? If anyone could she could.

She would have HATED that prenup.

She didn't like ANYTHING/ ANYONE who stood in the way of her and money.

Was ER her only murder?

I have my doubts.

I want to know how that house passed inspection. That poor family!

It didn't even register to me that 2006 is 20 years ago. Doesn't seem that long ago in my brain 😭 So yeah, Kouri would have been 15. I assume she was living with them at the time, then? Yikes.

I wonder if the mom had gambling debts she needed to pay off? 🤔

ER was married once before KR
His Mother insisted on a prenuptial arrangement
It was signed at ER and KR’s wedding
She did her best to protect her son - that's what (most) mothers do.

I did not enjoy the show. I found myself shouting at my TV. In an attempt to hurry up and get this show done, it was unorganized, didn’t tell a coherent story, too many people telling Kouri’s side, and not near enough Matt Murphy. It was aggravating. IMO

The mom and pop true crime reporters beat 20/20 every time. Skye already did 2 interviews on small podcasts before this 20/20 episode was released. So….

Also, if you watched the whole trial and surrounding podcast discussions then the 20/20 wrap up will be disappointing simply because it has nothing new to add. We already watched a very in-depth juror interview - 20/20 can’t beat that. They need to change the structure to be contemporaneous with the trial. Otherwise this is a dud.

That’s why sometimes they lean into the “wrongful conviction” narrative. It’s phony but it’s a “new angle” I guess. SMH.

does anyone think there is any way at all that the case of KR's mothers partner was murdered.....

I Remember "foam at the mouth" is the case of Chad Daybell's wife, Tammy. They exumed her body!!!!

In light of ER's murder (and prior attempted murder), it would be irresponsible IMO not to investigate every death in KR's circle, across time.

Hard to believe she was dumb enough to think she would get away ER's murder, but he wasn't her first, she may have accrued a certain confidence.

When I watch the comments of KR's family, knowing what we know about KR, it makes me wonder: which ones in her family are each of the following?
1 SCHEMING HELPER - a grifting crime person with no conscience, willing to kill as needed to achieve their desires, skilled in playing the game of preying on others and getting away with it, and willing to aid KR as she does the same, or
2 INNOCENT DUMMY - a person who is clueless about who she is and how evil she has been, or
3 "SILENCE IS BEST" - a person who has figured it out that KR ruthlessly killed ER, doesn't condone it, hates that it happened, but will keep acting as if she is innocent because she's family

Although I haven't watched the entire show yet, I'm curious whether the producers expected a not guilty verdict. That is, the show must have been in the works for a few months, and the story would be told through one lens or another. In this case, was the story told through the Kouri lens of her friends, her family, her innocence?

The defence, and others, have suggested that the drug dealing housekeeper was the key witness; without her, Kouri would have been found not guilty. That's like suggesting that, without Amber Fry, Scott Peterson would have been found not guilty. Both were strong witnesses that can be easily criticized, but I don't see the case against Kouri falling apart without testimony from the housekeeper.

Does the show echo the defence argument that guilt hinged on testimony from one witness?

That 20/20 piece! Sigh.
All i wanted were what AS (Kouri's childhood friend) and what Laura the Juror foreperson said and it was all sandwiched in between blah blah blah, of COURSE the Dardens are going to believe in their Kouri! We didn't need all their screen time tbh.

I wrote down what AS said. Apparently the verdict was read while she was meeting with the producers so there is video of her w someone watching and listening to the Guilty verdict. It seems maybe part of her interview was recorded after the verdict.

-Amy flipped out and told Kouri you're not allowed to be getting into the safe (about the locksmith)

-Oooh the funeral was incredibly uncomfortable

-There was a very obvious divide immediately and they wouldn't talk to each other (Kouri's family and Richins family at the funeral)

-This over the top lavish casket, it was like a horse and buggy it was grand, it was very country.... was just the most uncomfortable funeral I'd ever been at.

-His 40th birthday was just a couple weeks after the funeral....like his clothes had already been taken down, & she wasn't wearing her wedding ring and I thought that was a little odd, I mean, it wasn't even a month.

-I miss my friend

-Things are different now (about the friendship? Is is before the verdict??)

-Devastating to watch him (Josh) on the stand

(At some point the verdict comes in as they are filming her interview.... on Monday. Producer: "Ok...um I... We've just gotten news, a verdict is in"?)

-Noooo way! (Clasps hands to mouth. Surprised)

-I had told my kids early on that Eric had died. And my kids were devastated. I said along the way- sometimes it looks like Kouri might have done it but
Uknow and then my kids would say well did she? And I would say I don't think so.... but sometimes it looks like it.

(They show Ali with someone embraced watching the guilty verdict on camera.)

- Eric was my friend too. I didn't choose Kouri over Eric. But I'm now...I've lost..... lost both of them, and she was somebody that meant a lot to me-- her family meant a lot to me.. and they meant a lot to...my..... (cries, whispers)... my kids. And that's a lot. Nobody wins in this.

****************

My thoughts~~~~
What a betrayal.... what a tragedy for Ali and her family... to live with the fact your childhood friend ended up a killer? That's almost impossible to accept. Heart goes out to her.

Dig up the body. Then dig up the body of Eric's mother. Do more testing.

About the pre-nuptial agreement ... and Eric's mother insisting on it.

Eric's children were 10, 9, and 6 when Kouri was interviewed about the book. They were 9, 7, and 5 when Eric died. That means the oldest two children are less than two years apart.

One child was born before marriage. Was Kouri pregnant again when they got married? Perhaps she was pregnant again as soon as they were married to seal the deal. One more was born 3 years later.

I'm assuming that Eric, a devout Mormon, would want to get married before starting a family. Eric's mother was asking the right question: why would a single woman accidentally get pregnant in 2011? Unlike the 1950s, there are so many options to prevent accidental pregnancy - unless it's not accidental. If it's not accidental, then Eric needed to be protected from potential ulterior motives and worst case scenario that did unfold.

Eric's mother saw Kouri for who she is long before anyone else.
