Theodore family receives text messages that their missing teen is no longer alive

A family is pleading for help tonight after receiving text messages from their son's phone that he was no longer alive.

Marco Perez was last seen by his parents on New Year's Eve.

He was with some friends who dropped him off in Coden.

They have not been able to get a hold of him since. They fear the worst has happened.

How awful.

I hurt for his family.

How is LE not bringing in his friends?

Who has the phone?

  • #9
WTH LE has not rounded up his so-called friends?

If this is true - he is deceased - sending a text to the family like that is horrible.

Praying he is found soon--alive and well.

Can’t LE find out where the phone is pinging? I feel horrible for this family....

Well. There is hope. The article has been updated... I remember a different case where a girl pretended to have been kidnapped.

Perez was actually due in federal court today for a pre-trial hearing .

He was arrested in November on charges of possession of a stolen firearm.

His parents say he would not have disappeared because of this and are begging that anyone with information contact the police.
I hope his parents are wrong about that.

Besides the above with the texts, the below indicates some poor choices in the recent past, including what appears to be 3 arrests (at least) in just the past year, which combined with the texts from his phone add to my fear of how this may end.

From July...

Mobile Police say 19-year-old Marco Perez along with two underage teenagers are responsible for at least 18 car break-ins in Mobile.

They arrested Perez on Thursday around 2 pm after a "short" standoff.

<snip>

Investigators say an iPod, a North Face book bag, money, guns and even a pickup truck were some of the items stolen by the trio.

<snip>

Perez is charged with six counts of burglary into an occupied building and three counts of unlawful breaking and entering.

The 19-year old has been arrested in the past for unauthorized use of a vehicle, burglary and attempted burglary.

And from last January...

Police say the Theodore and Tillman’s Corner area has been hit with a string of vape shop burglaries. Today, police arrested 18-year-old Marco Perez and a 17-year-old juvenile connected to several of the burglaries...

cops need to put all the pressure on the friends ... all gas no breaks .. praying for him and his family.

yeah I think he did disappear because of the charges and I think he's the one who sent those messages

If I were to disappear because of court charges I would just quietly leave. No text no calls no nothing. Pharaphraing someone Texting he isn’t here anymore would make me want to find them. Just my opinion

Who could do that to their parents? Awful! I hope it is not the case. Also, that there is no truth to the texts either.

True.

But I'd think that would also hold true if someone else sent the texts too. So if whomever has his phone did something to him it also seems strange they'd basically raise the alert by inferring he's gone/dead.

Truthfully I'm more surprised that his phone wasn't ditched (by him or if someone else has it, by that person) and just ignored instead of the phone being answered / taunting texts sent.

It almost makes me wonder if something happened sort of accidentally (OD or something) and someone is half wanting him found and so thought that the texts might do that vs. the phone basically being abandoned (which, especially with his court date today might make it more appear like he left voluntarily)

Although considering his apparent poor lack of judgement and seeming to think he could keep committing repeat crimes since he did previously without getting caught (18+ burglaries, multiple vape shop crimes, etc.) if he did possibly send the text himself as some think, maybe Marco thought he'd get away with that too and that people would just "buy" it and he could disappear.

Regardless, I still don't think this will end well, even if he did send the text himself.

I guess he ran out of money. Now, it’s kidnapping. :D

MPD: Missing teen "not in any danger"

[...]

Wednesday morning Tiffany told NBC 15 News that Marco called Tuesday night and told her he didn’t know where he was and someone had taken him. He also said his leg was injured.

Mobile Police aren't buying the kidnapping story. Cpl. Laderrick Dubose says police tracked Marco down at a home, and he took off running. Dubose says investigators don't believe he's in any kind of danger.

Marco was due in federal court Tuesday on a firearms charge. His trial is set for later this month.
