‘She Meant Something’: Still No Answers in Murder of 16-Year-Old Girl Dumped Near Highway – Crime Online
Tioni-Theus.jpg

Family demands justice for Tioni Theus, 16-year-old girl found dead on side of 110 Freeway in South LA - ABC7 Los Angeles
''SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A vigil was held Tuesday evening for Tioni Theus, a 16-year-old girl whose body was found on the side of the 110 Freeway earlier this month.

The vigil was held outside a Los Angeles Police Department station in South L.A., where members of the victim's family joined community leaders to ask for the public's help in finding her killer.''

Investigators say Theus was murdered and her body was found along the southbound 110 Freeway on-ramp on Manchester Avenue Jan. 8. Drivers passing by the area saw the body and alerted authorities around 8 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Family members want justice.

"We're talking about a 16-year-old. We're not talking about an adult. We're talking about a 16-year-old child!" said Lakeshia Barret, the victim's cousin. "She was thrown on the side of the freeway like trash, and she's a child! She meant something to her family."

This is so sad. I remember the news stated that a body was found, but it was much later that it was announced that she was only 16 years old. It's just heart breaking.

Tioni Theus: Teen's body ‘dumped on the side of the freeway like garbage’; family demands answers (foxla.com)
"We still don’t know more than we did 11 days ago," said Rashida Kincy, who has been spearheading outreach to media, asking for help.''

''Theus was last seen January 7, by her dad, when she told him she was meeting a friend to go to a party. The 16-year-old had been staying with dad, since her mother was placed in an assisted living facility, to recuperate from a serious hit-and-run.''

''The straight-A student, according to family members, who loved dance and was pretty good at golf, started hanging out with friends her dad didn’t know. It was an Instagram friend, he told investigators, that she was supposedly going to a party with on the Friday before her body was found''

An 'Instagram friend' invited her to a party. That doesn't sound good. Hopefully they get the cyber unit doing a deep dive on that.

Tioni Theus: Teen's dad recalls last moments with his daughter (foxla.com)
''INGLEWOOD, Calif. - "I had a feeling something was wrong, I begged her to stay," says Darien Jackson, the father of Tioni Theus.

Jackson's daughter was found shot to death with her body found dumped on the side of the Manchester onramp to the 110 Freeway in South Los Angeles.''

''Jackson saw his daughter the night before the body was found. He had told her before she left the house to consider not going to the party she was set to attend.''

''Investigators on Tioni’s case are following leads, but asking anyone with information to call 323-644-9557.

There has been criticism that this case has not received the same attention as other recent murders in the news.

"This investigation is top priority," insists CHP officer Roberto Gomez''

''His sanity depends on the investigation after losing two of his children.

"I don't know if I can take it," he said. "I have no more left in me."

Family of slain teen hopes reward will bring killer to justice | KTLA
''Two weeks after the body of 16-year-old Tioni Theus was discovered near the Manchester off-ramp of the 110 Freeway, her killer remains on the loose, and her family is still working to get justice.
Since Theus’ death, $250,000 in reward money was offered to anyone who could help find the suspect in the recent murder of 24-year-old Brianna Kupfer at Croft House in Hancock Park.
The suspect in Kupfer’s killing, 31-year-old Shawn Laval Smith, was arrested Wednesday in Pasadena after a tipster called police. Smith now faces a murder charge.''

''Theus’ family and friends are hoping a similar offer will help find Theus’ killer.
They’re asking Gov. Gavin Newsom and other officials to set up a reward for information leading to the person who attacked the 16-year-old. The case is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, but no arrests have been made yet.''

“This has affected us deeply. So if anyone knows anything, could you please, please help the next young lady who is misled. Tioni didn’t know, and this is her outcome. Please help us help the misunderstood,” said Rashida Kincy, Theus’ cousin''

I'm glad this thread was started. If anything good could come out of this horror, it would be that more young people, especially teenage girls, would realize that this is a dangerous world and one needs to be extra vigilant and always concerned with their personal safety. The civilized world is declining at a rapid pace.

Activists said the absence of a reward in the killing of the young Black girl stands in stark contrast to efforts that led to a $250,000 reward offered in the search for the killer of 24-year-old Brianna Kupfer, a Pacific Palisades resident and UCLA grad student who was fatally stabbed Jan. 13 inside a boutique furniture store in Hancock Park.

Tioni Theus May Have Been Victim of Human Trafficking, DA Says
''That $110,000 from the city, county and state, combined with $5,000 provided by community nonprofit Operation Hope, brings the total reward up to $115,000.''

''The state of California has added another $50,000 to the reward money for information leading to the killer of 16-year-old Tioni Theus earlier this month, as the Los Angeles County District Attorney revealed the teen may have been a victim of human trafficking.
The increased reward came during the same news conference at which Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said there is evidence Tioni "may have been the victim of human trafficking."
According to Gascón, court records indicate the teen was identified as a CSEC, or commercial sexual exploitation of children, victim.

"Children cannot consent to sex work," said Tiffany Blacknell, Los Angeles County District Attorney Office special adviser. "

''The teen's life took a turn in 2019, when her mother was severely injured in a hit-and-run crash that has left her in a rehabilitation facility, and the teen began rebelling and disappearing for long periods of time.

"Yes, 16-year-olds have problems," cousin Lakesia Barrett said at a vigil for Tioni. "What 16-year-old didn’t? But the people who took her life got a chance to get it right. She don’t."

Activists, officials raise awareness of human trafficking before Super Bowl | KTL.
''A national nonprofit organization called In Our Backyard has been battling sex-trafficking surrounding the Super Bowl for the past 13 years. Partners in Southern California include Forgotten Children Incorporated and the South Los Angeles Anti-Trafficking Committee''

“The average age is around 12 years old for children when they’re first trafficked in America.''

''While human trafficking happens year-round in the U.S., it intensifies with large events, and experts explain the “party atmosphere” associated with the Super Bowl, concerts and conventions can lead to an increase in the purchase of adults and children for sex.''

''Southern California may have recently seen a human-trafficking case end in tragedy.

Tioni Theus, the 16-year-old who was found shot to death near a South Los Angeles freeway in early January, may have been a victim of human trafficking, L.A. County District Attorney George Gascón said.''

The District Attorney’s Office urges people to call 1-888-539-2373 or 1-888-373-7888 if they suspect human trafficking activity.

Reward for information in Tioni Theus murder increases to $120,000 - CBS Los Angeles (cbsnews.com)
''A reward for information in the murder of a 16-year-old girl whose body was found dumped along the 110 Freeway in South LA was increased Tuesday to a combined $120,000.''

"Ms. Theus lived in Compton and was a student at Centennial High School. She was reportedly living with her father as her mother recovered from a serious hit-and-run accident. Family members say she was a straight-A student and enjoyed dance and golf," Supervisor Holly Mitchell's motion to increase the reward said.

The motion was unanimously approved to increase the county's portion of the reward to $20,000. In addition to the $50,000 contributed by the state and the city of Los Angeles, the total reward for information in Tioni's murder is now at $120,000.

Anyone with information about her murder can call the California Highway Patrol at (323) 644-9557.''
