Nirla Sharma, 44, hasn't been seen since Sunday night
The New Westminster police major-crime unit is investigating the disappearance of Nirla Sharma. The 44-year-old mother of two was last seen Sunday, at around 9 p.m. at her home in the 300-block of Lawrence Street in New West.
Her family told police she had gone to bed wearing pink pyjamas and a pink T-shirt. Family members heard the front door chime at around 4 a.m. but Sharma, who typically arrives to her job at BC Hydro in Vancouver at around 6:30 a.m., didn’t make it into work and hasn’t been heard from since.
On Wednesday, Sharma’s family held a press conference, pleading for answers.
“If you did just leave, that’s fine, but just let us know where you are,” said daughter Vanessa Sharma, 20. “We just want to hear from you that you’re safe and you’re sound, and that nothing’s happened to you.”
Son Rilesh Sharma, 19, fought back tears as he addressed his mother directly. “Mom, if you’re watching this please let us know where you are. We miss you.”
“We are very concerned for Mrs. Sharma because she has not shown up for work, and there are no obvious reasons why she left at 4 a.m. She left without telling anyone, and did not take any of her personal belongings, which is out of character for her,” said New West police Sgt. Jeff Scott. “We are asking for the public’s help to locate her so that we can ensure her well-being.”
Investigators have requested that anyone with dash-cam video footage who may have been driving in the 300 block of Lawrence Street between midnight and 6 a.m. on Monday night come forward.
“As the days go by, we become increasingly more concerned for her safety,” said Sgt. Jeff Scott. “Investigators need to review any footage from the area to help advance the investigation regarding Mrs. Sharma’s whereabouts.”
Sharma is described as a South Asian female, 5-foot-3 and 138 pounds, with a medium complexion, short black hair and brown eyes. She may be wearing a black jacket with a hood and orange Nike shoes. Police have shared photos of the clothing she may have been wearing at the time of her disappearance.
Sharma has a tattoo on her left arm of the Om symbol along with tattoos of a crown on her right wrist, a rose on her tailbone and a design on her left ankle.
Anyone with information about her whereabouts are asked to call the New West police at 604-525-5411.''
