Found Deceased Canada - Norah, 11 & Romy Carpentier, 6, Quebec, 9 July 2020 *father died of suicide*

It has been seven days already...I can’t believe they haven’t found him yet!

Search for father of girls found dead in Quebec enters seventh day

BBM: I can :( & it’s not a reflection on the competency of those searching :(.

To give people a somewhat relatable idea of the (extended) search area - 50 km² - some of which is densely wooded with thick undergrowth & there are streams, rivers, ponds & lakes: Central Park in NYC is 3.41 km².

ETA: I meant to add that it’s very different tracking/searching for someone alive & (possibly) on the move, versus looking for a body. And the current searchers are doing both.

ETA2: as so often, there are conflicting and/or confusing and/or erroneous MSM articles and reports :(. I’m specifically referring to “50 km²” versus “a 50 km radius” grrrr.

Is there anywhere locally he could have taken his own life should that have been his plan? Appologies if this has already been discussed

Yes. Hypothetically & speculatively speaking.

Norah and Romy’s funeral will be held Monday.

Covid-19 regulations mean only 50 people, family & close friends will attend the service inside, but it will be broadcast on a large screen outside for the public who wish to attend.

According to her lawyer, the girls’ mother Amelie Lemieux doesn’t intend to speak to the media.

No updates on the search for Martin, other than a false alarm Tuesday evening.

Apparently the police believe MC could still be alive.

The provincial force said Thursday that evidence suggests Martin Carpentier broke into a camping trailer in the area and stole items inside.

Breaking: Sûreté du Québec believes Martin Carpentier is still alive | Montreal Gazette

Ms. Mathieu made it clear that there is "no element currently" which suggests that Martin Carpentier would be dangerous for the population.

Nothing new as far as I can see, except the ATM sighting wasn’t him.

Here’s the most recent SQ press release, in French with English audio available. Nothing we didn’t already know.

Appel à la population - Enquête visant à retrouver Martin Carpentier

ETA: personal opinion only. Police haven’t been clear (or I missed it) about exactly when he broke into the trailer for supplies.

If he’s on the move, he could be well away from the original area by now even on foot & we don’t know what he’s wearing, nor do we know which direction he could be taking.

It’s frustrating that we know so little about him and what if any, connections he might have to other areas in the province.

Twitter SQ account

Posted a couple of minutes ago:

New elements have led to a large deployment of police in the St-Apollinaire sector. They want to search (examine) all chalets/cottages/cabins and outbuildings and want owners to be accompanied by police to do so.

ETA: follow-up tweet: the objective of this deployment is to check for new clues and to secure/clear properties. Owners are requested to call 911.

ETA2: absent (outside the area) owners are asked to call 911 rapidly.

What on earth? Should we assume that their 911 system has a much greater capacity than those in the United States?

I found the “call 911” rather than a dedicated info line a bit odd too, but there seems (JMO mind you) to be an underlying sense of urgency in the messages that hasn’t been there before...

Traque de Martin Carpentier: forte présence policière à Saint-Apollinaire

Quick summary:
Triple the number of police on the ground, extra canine units/searchers brought in as well as forestry agents. The “Groupe tactique d’intervention” is also on standby.

***
The ‘tactical intervention team’ is the elite, specially trained unit, often used when a suspect “goes to ground”, or makes a “last stand”/barricades themselves, amongst other things such as negotiating...

ETA: the GTI “on standby” might be journalistic hyperbole. Whether it is or not, I don’t have good feelings about what may be going on as far as Martin Carpentier being found alive :(. JMO.

It looks like this might be just the next police step based on probabilities that he is still out there in the woods.

True, although IMO there’s a sense of urgency that has been absent the last few days, even when they announced they think he’s still alive.

I’m hoping this doesn’t turn out to be a damp squib, but it may well do so.

ETA: I can’t work out how to bring the photo over :( Help?

It would be especially good if they catch MC before the funeral on Monday, but if they don't - maybe he would try and watch it some how, imo, speculation.
Funeral for Norah and Romy Carpentier to be held Monday in Lévis | Montreal Gazette

Mother Amélie Lemieux and the family of Norah Carpentier, 11, and Romy Carpentier, 6, thanked those who searched for the girls. Facebook

''The funeral for Norah and Romy Carpentier, the two young sisters found dead last Saturday as provincial police searched for their father, will be held Monday in Lévis.
The Complexe funéraire Claude Marcoux said on Wednesday that because of COVID-19 restrictions, only the family of the girls can attend the ceremony''.

Had trouble posting it too, so i did what i often do if a pic is too big or whatever.. and search through google images and copy/paste that one. Not ideal because the link does not expand the photo ect. but okay in a pinch, imo.

THANK YOU @dotr!

One of the problems with the only 2 linkable photos, is that we don’t know how recent they are.

Another is that even without current Covid circumstances & mask-wearing, he has very generic/ordinary features. In French we’d say “Monsieur tout le monde”, which in English is something like “ordinary man-in-the-Street” or “could be anyone” of thousands.

I have seen a couple of other (non-linkable sources) photos floating around on FB, that are alleged to be him and he possibly has a slightly hooked nose, but again with a face covering one wouldn’t notice.
