I thought so, too. But apparently it can also break by non strangulation such as violent vomiting (which actually was reported) or some types of fall. So I can see how the case looks inconclusive.
Who are the “friends”? Was it a party setting?

The broken hyoid bone can be induced by violent vomiting, but as well strangulation or neck trauma. So that is inconclusive. But the whole story sounds very fishy. Who are those “friends”?

You are correct about violent vomiting being a possible cause, although rare. I agree that the whole story is fishy. Did the friends come forward when Jax was reported missing? If not, that would be very suspicious IMO.

One of the two men she was with was the one she left her apartment with.

The motel she was found next to is 2 stories at its tallest. Depending on the circumstances, a fall/jump from that height could be survivable.

Victim's advocate calls autopsy report for Denver hairstylist Jax Gratton "concerning," "suspicious"

A recently obtained autopsy report for a Denver hairstylist, who was missing for over two months before being found dead, is raising questions and concerns for her mother and her victim advocate.

"She was someone who not only did haircuts for unhoused folks, but she felt very strongly that they need to be done in a salon so that folks got to have the experience and the decency of other people. She made these care kits with her own money that she would put together that had food and hygiene items and socks, and she would hand them out to folks so that they would have their basic needs taken care of."

Woman Follows Alleged Package Thief Until Police Make Arrest During Uptick In Porch Pirate Incidents

Package theft usually tends to increase across the holidays, but the pandemic has delivery trucks working overtime. According to the Denver Police Department, there have been 1,167 reports of package thefts in 2020 so far.

''Since Dec. 1, Denver police have received 127 reports of package theft. Gratton grew tired of watching her neighbors become victims, so she followed the package thief out of the building, despite 911 dispatch's warning.''

"[Jax] recognized they were doing suspicious activity and called police. that's what we want people to do," explained Downs. Jax told CBS4's Tori Mason that she knew going beyond that was a risk, "I think the biggest thing is to keep yourself safe, but I know I put myself in a dangerous position."

After alerting DPD, Jax continued to trail behind the thief until police arrived.'

Imagine this: a woman is missing. A man tells police he's been in a relationship with her for 3.5 years, and on the night she was last seen he claims he picked her up from her apartment, took her to his office, and another man turned up. He tells police that woman he picked up took GHB, vomited and started snoring, he put her on her side and left her alone, he came back and she was gone but had left her phone, glasses, bags and shoes in his office.

He didn't take her stuff back to her apartment. Her family deny that she's in a relationship with anyone.

And he doesn't get arrested.

Then that woman's body is found directly under his office window. The office he told police he left her in. Then it turns out that woman has a fractured hyoid bone, fractured thyroid cartilage (both signs of strangulation) and two broken ribs.

He still doesn't get arrested.

Crazy, right?

That woman's name is Jax Gratton. And that man hasn't been arrested because she's transgender.
