WINTER PARK, Fla. — A woman accused of killing her boyfriend by zipping him inside a suitcase is set to return to court this morning.

Orange County deputies said Sarah Boone and Jorge Torres were drunk when she put him in the bag during a game of hide-and-seek in their Winter Park apartment in February 2020.

Investigators said cellphone video shows Boone taunting Torres while he struggled to breathe.

“I can’t (expletive) breathe, seriously,” Torres is heard saying in the videos, according to deputies.

“That’s on you,” Boone replied, according to deputies. “That’s what it feels like when you cheat on me,” and “that’s what you do when you choke me,” and that he “should probably shut the (expletive) up.”

Boone’s trial is set to begin May 16.

Jury selection begins this morning after a delay due to the hurricane in #SarahBoone trial. It will likely take several days to seat a jury. We are not allowed to broadcast jury selection.

Agree - I wanted them to destroy her on the stand and/or for her to give us the Sarah "I fired 8 attorneys" Boone we've all come to know and not love.

I'm worried that the jury will buy her BSS BS without the deep knowledge of who she really is, with her perky "butter wouldn't melt in my mouth" demeanor. The CourtTV analysts said she's one of the best witnesses to testify in her own defense they've seen. Let's hope that those videos made the first, and lasting, impression of her.

Let's hope the State's rebuttal case is stronger than their cross, and that their closing statements are a knock out punch.
Yes, even though I'm behind in watching her testimony and the cross, getting the impression from comments that state will benefit from a strong rebuttal case. For the time being trusting that they prepped for this eventuality. It would be some kind of hubris not to have. Jmo

Here's the prosecution arguing against BSS last month to the judge and the prosecutor mentions the violence Brian Boone talked about in his deposition inflicted against him by SB and also her being an alcoholic .
AB was a violent drunk long before meeting Jorge.

I feel for the jury with all this terminology being thrown around by the defense and hopefully the prosecutor can close the trial with an articulate simplicity showing how SB's actions and inaction the night she killed Jorge fulfills the legal definition of 2nd degree murder and that she should be convicted.

I feel better having seen this..fingers crossed.

The superior attitude got me too.
Most DV victims do not have an overinflated ego.
They think poorly of themselves because they have been conditioned to feel as if they are nothing.

I did notice that early in her highly coached and rehearsed testimony, she said that she was shocked that Jorge would be interested in “someone like her”. When coached by Owens on why, she said because Jorge was handsome and funny and… something else. My jaw dropped because straight A, little Miss Perfect, I’m the best at everything suddenly thinking she’s not good enough?!??! Yeah right! I’m sure they came up with that as a way to try to portray Sarah as a low self-esteem victim of a charming narc when in reality, it was probably the other way around.

Agree - she's coming off as sociopathic and dangerous IMO.

If she'd have got sober and got some perspective in jail and worked a recovery from the chaos and addiction, she'd be able to be held accountable and would be open and frank about how bad things had got and the tragedy of where it's all landed up. Also she would have taken the plea deal because it's overtly the best legal outcome and most rational and sane thing to do but she just can't get there due to her sickness of the mind IMO.

Some people who are addicts behave criminally as if they're truly antisocial and have no conscience, when they get clean they get well. SB on the other hand behaves as if she's an alcoholic whilst having this underlying personality so when she gets sober it makes no difference to her toxic thinking IMO.
Yeah, that’s pretty chilling. IMO

Or just like she'd have him arrested and after his parents would bail him out, she'd go to their home and demand JT return home with her, leaving his parents scared for both of them-- but especially their son. Just shattered for his mom and dad. MOO :(

I hope the jury hears about all this in rebuttal. It’s such a lopsided process otherwise. Do you know if it can be?

She didn't record the 11 minutes where she claims he was threatening her with death.

Why? Because she was assaulting him with a bat.

You'd think she'd start recording an incident during which she supposedly began fearing for her life. But only if she wasn't lying ofcourse. Seems more likely to me that she didn't record because of what she was doing to him as you say. Imo warped logic in the moment she recorded the other two incidents; she might like to relive the moments later, also maybe show to JT to teach him " a lesson" when she felt the urge.

If she was committing violence on JT during the unrecorded time ( suitcase down stairs? A bashing of his defenseless body in suitcase with the bat?) then yeah she might not record that for posterity because interferes too much with her image of herself as perfect etc and possibly even SB might recognise the blatant criminality of such actions and so best not to make a record. For clarity all this is my speculation only.

I whiplashed on that. Decided it had to be her marriage she was talking about. Setting the stage for her wounded wwith.

Peter @ LYK was talking about a member's comment that juror # 13 is a DV survivor.

That is all that was about #13 and it appears that the info has been verified somewhere because had it not been I know Peter would have said that.
IMO; That can work both ways...unwarranted sympathy or being able to discern what role she played in the DV and it's ugly.

Nothing is known about any of the other jurors.
I like it that he's careful and very clear making sure he's not accusing anyone of anything when discussing cases.
Then again he's an attorney. lol

Was anything about the jurors published when the were chosen?
That does happen in some high profile cases.

In Fla voluntary intoxication is not a defense.

Hmmm…just tuned in and saw the last part of the video of JT taking the bat to the tv. Now I’m not saying that wasn’t a bit extreme he didn’t really seem out of control angry while doing it. I expected him to be yelling and cussing and threatening and wailing that bat like a wild man. Instead it almost looked to me like one of those staged fake videos you see on YouTube or something - not saying it was staged - I don’t know - but my first thought was what if they go a new tv and just thought it would be funny to video the old one being destroyed.

Also just a side note - not every parent or step-parent that destroys an electronic device (tv, video games, computers, phones, tablets, etc) is doing it to be mean or abusive. Sometimes parents are just desperate. There were 6 kids in our family - in the 60s with one TV & 3 channels. You can imagine the fights we had over which of those 3 to watch. We had a small B&W tv for years and our parents finally saved up enough to get a color tv and that made our arguments worse. My step-dad warned us about it for a few days and then finally just picked it up and threw it out the door - it smashed as it tumbled down the stairs into the yard. It was a while before we got a color tv again but I don’t recall any of us arguing about what to watch again when he was home.

Of course I don’t know whether JT might have been following through on a warning to SB or her son for too much TV or video games or whatever and I don’t know if they were creating a fake YouTube video of him taking a bat to it. I didn’t even see the whole video. But what I did see was not what I pictured when they talked about him taking a bat to the tv.
Thanks for the Info. I guess the state can note that this was not violence directed at SB and Hope the jury is discriminating.

Will add to you point; I threw a mal-functioning set top box or may have been a DVD player across my lounge room once. I was angry with the electronic device not a person and lost my temper. No one else was present though and my young at the time son was in another room asleep. I have a short fuse for obnoxious electronic devices and I often imagine throwing them or hammering them though was stocked enough after launching the dvd player way back then to refrain from similar after that.

Who is AB?

Who is AB

A few times today I compared something about Ashley Benefield's defense to SB's defense.
Since then it seems like I'm channeling her, like automatic writing or something. lol

IT’s head spinning at this point and that’s exactly what living with a narcissist is like.

She is ruling this trial the way she wants it to be. Were the previous 8 attorneys smart to avoid the bait or stupid to doubt her ability?

The plot is lost. She ended a persons life, not because she was a victim but because she wanted to. The fact that she wanted him to suffer is evidence of her guilt.

She is a dangerous person who needs to be held responsible for her own actions. She wasn’t scared “terrified” because common sense tells us to flee at the first opportunity. She didn’t!

Thank you for highlighting this @jepop ….. the issue of when SB made recordings. Gets the wheels spinning in the mind.

Is it known how many other videos were found if any, made by SB on that day or evening? Only two primary evidence videos each showing a constrained and encased yet still alive JT are horrifying IMO. Are there others? And IMO it seems that SB perhaps thought this was all a cruel, sick, wicked game to her? It appears that SB was ‘having enough fun’ that she thought it would be important or entertaining (for lack of more tasteful words) to record and memorialize the suffering of her partner. Was that the real purpose of the game? Would be nice if an electronic forensic analysis could show who played those videos after JT had expired and when and how often thereafter.

As others have observed upthread, it seems even more odd that SB didn’t manage to record any incidents of alleged abuse she says she suffered that day from JT? Based on the evidence in this case it is hard not to conclude that SB was really the one that was dictating and controlling events that evening. MOO
