GUILTY GA - Quinton Simon - Missing From Home - Mom ARRESTED- Savannah #6

  • #401
As disappointed as I am in the sentencing, LS will be incarcerated for the majority of her life. She will cause chaos and havoc while she's in prison I'm sure. She cannot conform to civilized social norms and has no genuine care or concern for anyone but herself; a user, liar and complete NARC manipulator.

She certainly had nothing for little Quinton, turning his disappearance and search for his tiny remains in the landfill into a circus sideshow, while never lifting a finger to help. That's beyond cold hearted IMO and she still refuses to accept any responsibility today. Soulless and will continue to be so using anyone and everyone she can while incarcerated IMO.

RIP little Quinton, you are in a far better place even though you shouldn't have to be. Wishing genuine healing and thankfulness to LE and landfill searchers who were so greatly affected trying to bring justice to this baby boy.

If it truly will be 30 years before Leilani is eligible for parole then it’s still a very long time. As pointed out above thread she’ll be too old to bear more children, so there’s that.

Her surviving kids will be adults and if they’re lucky enough to grow up away from that family they’ll have a fighting chance at becoming responsible, contributing members of society. Something needs to change in their lives and removing Leilani is a start. Hopefully the dads will step up but if not maybe the kids will go to good families far, far away.

i was thinking about your first paragraph all along.... but then, thought to myself, noooo Leilani WILL probably figure out a way to get pregnant while incarcerated... just something I think she will do.

I guess they were'nt paying attention to her cellphone and the tracking of her car done by LE. Or maybe it's just a case of denial. Either way, I hope the surviving children are in wonderful homes surounded by love.
Seems like they were living on a completely different planet altogether while speaking 'on her behalf'. I'm still reeling from listing to them all. I'll continue to pray that the remaining littles are indeed surrounded by love, light and happiness and all else that is for their highest good in life~~ and far, far, away from any of these people.

imo

How convenient that LS can cue the tears up on command.
She learned that from her mama ... I was able to catch a portion of BJ speaking, I was so disgusted I couldn't listen to it all. What was the deal when Dean said BJ taught Leilani about "accepting responsibility"? Really??!! Also, he said BJ wasn't home when this happened to Quinton, she was out of town. No mention that Quinton wasn't supposed to be in Leilani's care alone? Further, wasn't BJ downing shots with Leilani at the bar on Tybee Island? Why was NONE of this mentioned at trial?

Judge Tammy Stoke sentenced Leilani Simon on Thursday to life with the possibility of parole, plus 10 years.
Here is her sentence broken down:
  • Count 1 - Malice Murder: Life in prison with the possibility of parole.
  • Count 2 - Felony Murder: Vacated
  • Count 3 - Vacated
  • Count 4 - Concealing the Death of Another: 10 years, consecutive to count 1.
  • Count 5 - False Report of a Crime: 12 months concurrent to count 4
  • Count 6 - Making a False Statement: 5 years concurrent with 4
  • Count 7 - Making a False Statement: 5 years concurrent with 4
  • Count 8 - Making a False Statement: 5 years concurrent with 4
  • Count 9 - Making a False Statement: 5 years concurrent with 4
  • Count 10 - Making a False Statement: merges into count 9
  • Count 11 - Making a False Statement: 5 years concurrent with 4
  • Count 12 - Making a False Statement: 5 years concurrent with 4
  • Count 13 - Making a False Statement: 5 years concurrent with 4
  • Count 14 - Making a False Statement: merges with 13
  • Count 15 - Making a False Statement: 5 years concurrent with 4
  • Count 16 - Making a False Statement: 5 years concurrent with 4
  • Count 17 - Making a False Statement: merges into 16
  • Count 18 - Making a False Statement: 5 years concurrent with 4
  • Count 19 - Making a False Statement: 5 years concurrent with 4

So is it really 40 years before there is a chance of a parole hearing?

Incredible, she wants her son's ashes to go to her brother.

"Although Simon did not testify, she answered questions from the press, and stated that she wanted her son's remains to be released to her brother, Paul Simon.

"I want my baby home," she said, per Newsweek."".

Seriously. Leilani wants the ashes of her son, the same child she killed and threw in the trash.

It sounds like she is charged with 40 years (30 for the death of Quinton and 10 years for concealing to run consecutive), but oftentimes inmates serve a percentage of that time. I didn't watch the hearing so I'm not sure if she was ordered to do 100% of that time or if she could be eligible for release after a percentage. Unfortunately there are a lot of inmates that get released early.

I think a lot of that might depend on her behavior in prison as well, and I predict she is going to be a very, very troublesome inmate. I see her being in prison for a very long time, which is where she belongs IMO.

GRRRRRRRRRR, if she ever really wanted her Quinton home, he wouldn't be reduced to ashes. He'd be a happy little toddler running around and being loved and cared for.

It really goes back to my original assessment of Leilani, her mother admitted her own issues with substance abuse, I wonder if Leilani was affected by her Mother's drug addiction in utero.

It wouldn't surprise me if her baseline IQ was in the mid 70's range or lower. I see the appeal coming with "diminished capacity", which would have actually made sense here, as a trial strategy.

She seems to be so disconnected from her behavior and actions. Lack of insight into the consequences of her behavior. She had no clue how to parent a young child.

Interesting, one cannot deny Billie Jo has direct responsibility for how Leilani turned out. I mused about that upthread.
But ultimately her choices landed her where she is.

Do you think Leilani was ever tested for the drug exposure you mention? I would think that would have been one of the first things the defense would have ordered knowing her background?

Public defense. Just doing their job. They can't be specialists in drug addiction, diminished capacity. I don't see Leilani as a particularly likeable defendant. She threw her child in a dumpster. So, she is where she belongs.

Didn’t say they needed to be specialists, but they should be able to hire one, public defender or not.

I’m speaking in generalities, loathe Leilani and her mother.

I mean, maybe she asked him and he refused, but wouldn't you think the person who should receive his remains would be Quinton's father?

I was thinking Quinton's father didn't have any right's at all to the poor little guy. Thus, BJ having full custody of them all. Mabey that's why his remains are going to LS's brother. Either that or LS is just 'sticking-it-to-him' by denying him the right to his remains and a burial. Seems about right  Just thinking about BJ and LS's brother having a memorial for Quinton makes me sick. And I still believe that the egg donor didn't get what she deserved... imo the crimes that she committed merit the maximum possible sentence, which she did not receive (LWOP). Much like @Knox I loathe Leilani and her mother also. All jmo

Good observation, although I think Leilani was at least average intelligence and super manipulative. She used everyone around her for her own personal gain. Places to live, drugs, child care, vehicles to drive, etc.

It is said she showed at least some affection towards the older son and the newborn baby. I think she just really despised Quinton, maybe because she hated the bio dad (or he wasn't paying child support?) and subconsciously took it out on that little baby boy? I know it sounds bizarre but LS appears to me a ruthless, no conscious child murderer who knew exactly what she was doing that night when she disposed of little Quinton in that dumpster.

I will NEVER forget her and the family members setting up chairs, laughing and mocking the protesters, blasting a radio on the lawn while searchers were out in the landfill in almost 100 degree heat looking for Quinton's remains. No appeals to be won for LS and I hope her stay in the DOC is a long and miserable one.

Well, we knew that the "Margarita Parties" were going to end soon. That was incredibly callous. Just like Lori Daybell, husband dead, let's have a pool party!

These people just have something missing.

Regarding Q fragile little remains --

IIUC, it was the Defense (Leilani's previous attorneys) who sought to withhold the release of Q's remains (for further testing), a hold they could maintain for appeal; therefore, it was the Defense who needed to agree to release them which is why the judge polled Leilani (and also to protect the State). Leilani (who chose to throw Q away but now wants him to have a proper burial) was quick to name her brother, and the judge and State were quick to tell her that they'd be released according to probate. Leilani, IIUC, didn't have custody of Q at the time, so she won't be the decider.

I think, sadly, we know what whom that means.

The greatest travesty -- if Leilani hadn't been left unsupervised with Q in the first place, we wouldn't be here at all.

Pretty standard, imho.

“A jury of 12 people said that’s enough for them today,” Simon’s Defense Attorney Martin Hilliard said on Friday. “Does that mean it’s gonna be enough next week, next month, next year when it goes to the Supreme Court? We’ll see, and that’s what the appellate process is for.”

The motion filed by Hilliard also requests that they be removed from new trial and for Simon to have an attorney who specializes in appeals. In the motion, it said that Simon “wishes to raise a claim of ineffective assistance of counsel.”

The full motion is linked in the article.

WTOC spoke with Daniel Youngkin about his relationship with Leilani and her murder trial.

Youngkin testified during Simon’s trial that he was abusing drugs and alcohol towards the end of his relationship with Simon, including when Quinton disappeared.

However, he said now he’s five months sober and is proud to have gotten to that point.

I bet he wants to be removed! Can’t imagine what representing her would be like!! Evidence is too strong, appeal away!

Proud of him, I hope this ugly tragedy gives him the impetus for a changed life forever. Also hope he gains custody of S!
