Mikio Miyazawa 44, wife Yasuko 41, Niina 8, and Rei 6
"All four were brutally murdered on December 30, 2000 in a crime that shocked Japan and began a grim new chapter in the country's criminal history.
Police know so much about the killer — everything except who he is and why he committed such a violent crime.
He left his DNA everywhere.
He left clothes at the scene.
He left the murder weapon.
He used the victims' computer.
He ate at least four ice creams from their freezer.
And he stayed inside the house for hours as the family lay dead.
Almost 250,000 investigators have worked on this case, receiving more than 15,000 tip-offs from the public.
But nearly two decades later, officers are seemingly no closer to solving a crime that is extremely rare in this largely peaceful country.

I have a theory. First I will lay the information that struck me then deductions and finally the theory.
1. Culprit is believed to be of mixed race (some where of european-south asian descent and east asian)
2. Only Rei was strangled
3.Someone mentionned that there was an affordable housing building behind them
4. Items the culprit left behind were somewhat cheap and indicated they were a teenager
5. Stayed at the house after murdering them
6. most important one: Their DNA didnt match any on the japanese database.
my deductions :
1.Culprit is a sociopath, killed and stayed unfazed at their house as they lay dead. Relieved pressure acted in a way to "solve" an issue.
2.Culprit is one of the kids of an illegal refugee and a japanese person.
3.Culprit was poor and living in that cheap student housing building with his family
4.Culprit may have a younger sibling.
5. Culprit's japanese parent may have died
6. Culprit's foreigner parent may be the mother
My theory:
Refugees in the 2000s did not need to provide DNA samples, therefore the foreigner parents DNA isnt in the japanese database, I am guessing the foreigner parent stayed longer than they should have and became "illegal" which is why they didnt report the culprits birth in a way to protect the foreigner parent from deportation because they would need to report the foreigner adult too. Sociopaths often act in ways to fix problems they see around them and have no regards for consequances and are impulsive. My guess would be that the culprit's younger sibling was getting bullied in kindergarten/school for being mixed race "gaijin" and/or for missing a parent, maybe the kids at the kindergarten/school in Rei's grade were threatening with deporting them and went to get "revenge" on their family which would explain why only Rei was strangled. The other possible theory would be that the culprit is still mixed race but this time a psychopath who got infuriated with the family maybe for the same reason as my first theory but this time he mightve killed them because he felt as if because of his race he was looked down upon, maybe rei's mom didnt let Rei play outside and the culprit took it as an attack and decided to kill them, leaving feces and the eating of 4 ice creams to mock them. I think the culprit used their computer to check if they had told anyone about his "illegal"/ expired stay parent or his undocumented self. He couldve also waited at their house thinking there were more family members that were a threat to him coming later. They lived in apparently student cheap housing, there must be a qualification form and this is why I believe the culprit is a mixed refugee ( probably from an asylum parent europe-southasian i could guess kurd ) who lived in a high school or maybe a university nearby whith his family in his "appartment/dorm" with maybe a younger sibling, I'd like to think that thei rmother wouldnt have had too many years in difference with her two kids, assuming the culprits younger sibling is also 6, the max age for an older sibling without havig too much of a big age gap, standing at around 170 cm who is slim and has european dna too, I would place him between 15-17.
This is my hypothesis, do not steal my theory.
