However, if there was drug residue left over, then they probably do know what she took. Maybe not to a legal standard, but they do have drug testing kits that get instant results.
Also, if she had a regular dealer, then there are multiple ways the cops could follow up on that, like talking to the boyfriend or following a money trail. They don't need to wait for the tox screen for that.
