In the years since, Lauria’s mom, Lorene Bible, has continued the search and works to keep the girls’ memory alive. After years of no answers, Lorena and her niece, Lisa Brodrick, created a Find Lauria Bible – BBI social media page.

In an earlier interview, Lorene Bible said the family was never told that accessory to felony murder was not an 85% crime, and had they known, they would never have agreed to Busick’s sentence if they knew that would mean an early release.

“By the third day, John Walsh (creator and host of ‘America’s Most Wanted’) told me: ‘You have a decision to make. Either you go hide in a closet, and in five years, it will be like the girls never existed, or you need to be Lauria’s voice. And you need to make your mind up right now,’” she said.

Lorene did just that, and a quarter of a century later, Lauria and Ashley’s names are still known around the globe.

Next up, Lorene intends to remind every state senator in the Oklahoma Legislature of the girls’ case in the new year.

“For me, I’m doing this so another family doesn’t have to go through this,” Lorene said, “to have to go through two, 2½ years’ of court appearances — then the convicted person does hardly any prison time?”

“We love her, and we’ve never stopped searching for her,” Bible said. “Until the day I die, unless someone comes forward that knows something, I’ll continue to do that.

Lorene Bible remembers the last time they spoke, saying, “I love you.”

“You never think that’s going to be the last word you hear from your child,” she said.

'For those who don’t know their story, Lorene recounts the final moments they had together.''

“In December of 1999, Lauria went over to Ashley’s house for her 16th birthday on the 29th of December and it was a birthday party, stay the night and come home the next day but she never came home the next day. During the night, somebody walked into the Freeman’s house and killed Danny and Kathy and abducted both girls and burnt the house to the ground,” said Bible.'

''She stands firm in her belief that the girls are somewhere in Picher, and said she will use every moment of every day to work to bring them home.''

Feb 28, 2025 Missing with Marni Hughes
Teenagers Ashley Freeman and Lauria Bible were kidnapped, tortured, raped and believed to have been killed, though their bodies were never found. Their case has led to legislation through the Oklahoma State House that could lead to harsher sentencing for people convicted of accessory to murder.---The girls were last seen alive in December of 1999, and Bible’s mother, Lorene, has continued the search for 25 years. “We love her, and we’ve never stopped searching for her,” Lorene Bible said. “Until the day I die, unless someone comes forward that knows something, I’ll continue to do that.”
