Probably not, but that's why I would never eat at an all you can eat buffet. I would never get my money's worth.

Whewwww I would...thats why I try to stay away!

Agreed, I think we've all been to one of those restaurants at one time or another and watched some glutton empty a whole bin of ribs onto their plate or watched as a person or persons leave enough food on their plates to feed a 3rd World Family for a week.

A restaurant is still a private business and the owners have the right to refuse service for reasons of abuse or tell a customer not to fire up that cigar...it doesn't take a scientific rocket to figure it out.

BTW, if anyone wants to drop in and sample the fare at Manchuria, it's on Grand Caillou just North of Terrebonne Airport.
Is it worth getting kicked out of?:innocent:

Sounds like this was handled badly. The restaurant has the right to refuse service and should have done so if they felt it was needed before giving a bill for more than the stated amount of the buffet. I hate buffets and won't eat at them. Too many germs for me.

I agree about owners having the right to refuse...BUT if you are gonna offer a buffet surely you would know theres gonna be some people who are gonna down more food than you thought...
Not even just over-weight people. My ex-husband was a STICK we're talking 6' 135 lbs....yet he could eat 20 tacos from Taco Bell at ONE time....15 or more Krystal's, a WHOLE domino's DOMINATOR pizza at ONE sitting.
I wonder if this restaurant was watching skinny people to see how/what they ate? I think people would automatically watch over-weight people....when in reality some skinny folks can put away just as much, if not more!

He is actually 265 which is a bit higher BMI and puts him in the Obese category. FWIW.

Er, HUH?!   I went by the higher number, the headline said 265, the news story said 277. 277 is a higher BMI than 265? What are you saying? 265 is not higher.... *fizzle* *confused* ETA: Re-read my post, I start at 239 to illustrate what would be a borderline weight for him, but still healthy, I then speak of the higher weight given and how yes, that is obese, but not MORBIDLY so. ;)

I wasn't speaking badly of this person. As I said before, I wish I had his self-confidence. Also I am also over-weight. I would be the LAST person to poke fun at anyone.
Well I guess my post really didn't sound like that though right?

Hey, I am heavy myself. ;) I don't mind buffett, but around here people mostly aren't slobs or pigs. I am not piggish either, I get small amounts of things to try the first time, and sample things, and maybe go back for more of what I liked. I certainly do not get more than two plates, and neither is piled high either. Often I know what I like so I get a small amount of it, and go back for some fruit for dessert if they have any.

For Chinese buffet in Houma, the Dragon Garden isn't bad, but if you're in that area...a Chinese Buffet would be way down my list of restaurant choices. That's Cajun Country...beacoup better dining choices there.

It was previously a McDonald's, which closed over 3 yrs ago.

So who said (not arguing or fighting) that these guys were slobs OR pigs? The purpose of a buffet in my opinion, is that you have (and paid) for the right to eat until you are full....these guys are big and over-weight...naturally it is gonna take more to fill them up than most....

Haha thanks for the tip Gonzo. I don't eat Chinese food anyway, but Cajun CHinese food sounds even worse.:p

Oh I see. No worries.
ETA; FWIW, one guy weighs 277 and one weighs 265.

People are implying they don't like buffets because people pile their plates high with food (piggish behavior is what I call that) and don't eat all they take and "make a mess". What adjectives would you use to describe such things? I'd call the patrons at an all you can eat buffett who did that piggish, (or greedy) and if they made a mess slobs too.

I'm not badmouthing them, (ETA: The people in the news story) I doubt they did make a mess, probably they just ate a lot of the food they liked, and I think the restraurant was stupid to put high dollar items on an all you can eat buffett. Look at my first post. That is what I think should have been done to handle it.

ETA2: I was addressing two things with my posts, the news story, and the behaviors described by other posters at buffets. I hope I've clarified well enough now?

The restaurant is probably inadvertently helping save the lives of these two slobs.

Their attorney probably has them both on a weight-loss program, so they will look better for court.

A buffet restaurant should always have a clause for exceptions, as there are obnoxious, abusive, people, that will be encountered.

I want to have a weigh-in to make it official.

I love it that the waitress said "y'all fat and eat too much'--more power to her--I'm sure she feels like saying that every day to many people--One time, many years ago we went to a Shoney's in Virginia Beach, and we were just disgusted at how many obese people of all races waddled in there and ate like pigs--It was disgusting--We vowed then and there never to go another Buffet-style restaraunt again anywhere

gotta agree with ya, Gonzo. Cajun is the way to go when you are anywhere near Cajun Country! I'm smack dab in the middle, and OMG, the food around here makes it HARD to stay thin! It's all so darn delicious!!!

Having said that, Houma is an oilfield town, solidly blue collar, as someone already mentioned. This guy and his cousin surely aren't eating more than most oilfield workers, they just eat more OFTEN. My mindset is firmly in the "if you don't want people to eat a lot of food, don't offer an 'all you can eat' buffet" corner. The waitress could use a lesson or two in tact, although for a Louisiana oilfield town, she didn't do TOO bad. Heck, I've heard a waitress tell a guy, "get your fat 🤬🤬🤬 out of that booth, you've been here long enough."
