According to this 2005 article, Phyllis, who was pregnant with twins at the time, was ordered to get into a man's car and when she refused, he shot her. She succumbed to her several days later leaving behind two young children. Her sister, Celestine Broadus, quit her job to hunt for her sister's killers. She was murdered in 1990. Both cases remain unsolved.
