The husband of a missing woman whose body was found in Lake Lewisville over the weekend is facing multiple felony charges including abuse of a corpse, police say.

Plano Police said 32-year-old Sarah Dudley was reported missing on Saturday after being last seen along the 7000 block of Bishop Road near Legacy Town Center.

On Monday, police in The Colony notified Plano investigators they had recovered a woman's body from Lake Lewisville and that she may be connected to their missing person case. Two days later, the Collin County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the woman found in the lake was Dudley, though her official cause of death was listed as "undetermined."

Plano Police told NBC 5 Thursday morning that the woman's husband, 37-year-old Karlton Dudley, had been arrested Wednesday and was being held in the Collin County Jail. Jail records show Dudley was being held on bonds totaling $560,000 for charges of abuse of a corpse and aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Police confirmed to NBC 5 the abuse of a corpse charge is related to Sarah's disappearance, though they have not yet confirmed any further information about the case or provided any other details about the child sex assault charge.

“People were drawn to her. You know, she was always the kind of person that you would spend just a little bit of time with her, and you’re friends with her,” said Patrick Dowd.

In recent years, the siblings said they’d grown worried about the 32-year-old’s relationship with her husband Karlton.

“Over the years, we've all noticed that he just kind of just had this controlling nature,” said Dowd.

Before his wife Sarah Dudley disappeared, Karlton Dudley was awaiting a grand jury decision on whether to indict him for sexual assault of a child.

In an arrest warrant, Frisco Police detail how Karlton Dudley would see a friend’s daughter, who was under the age of 14, about twice a week. He would take her out to do things, often bring her back to his apartment and even have her stay the night.

After the girl’s mother discovered what she considered suggestive and inappropriate anime photos that Karlton Dudley sent on her daughter’s tablet, police say the girl claimed he had sexually abused her.

Karlton Dudley has denied having any sexual contact with the girl, but he was arrested in September. He was released on bond 10 days later wearing a GPS monitor on his ankle.

That monitor was still around his ankle this past Saturday when Plano police say he was in the water at Lake Lewisville, the spot where his wife’s body, stuffed in a black duffel bag, was found Monday.

An affidavit states Karlton Dudley told police he was at the lake to go kayaking, but police records show he was in the same area where his wife’s body was found. Police also say the duffel bag matched the description of one Karlton Dudley had reported missing from his apartment.

Karlton Dudley is now charged with abuse of a corpse for allegedly disposing of a body. His bail was set at $500,000.

The Tarrant County medical examiner has not yet reported how exactly Sarah Dudley died, but should her manner of death be ruled a homicide, police will be looking at filing more serious charges against her husband.
